Chapter 561 Only Hatred for Him, Won't Save Him
Isaac said self-deprecatingly, "Maybe this is my fate. I should have died three years ago. You gave me three more years, and that's enough."
Although he still had regrets in his heart for not being able to watch his children grow up, and grow old with his beloved.
But Nora had already done enough for him.
He had unknowingly gained three more years of life, knowing he had three lovely children, and that was enough.
Nora covered her mouth with her hand, silently shedding tears.
Isaac hugged her, gently comforting, "Don't cry, sweetheart. Three months is just enough time to die with Barrett. With me accompanying him, he won't be lonely. I'll take good care of Barrett in heaven, and you take care of Magnus and Soren here. Maybe this is God's arrangement. God couldn't bear to see any child alone, so He let us each accompany one child."
"Barrett has been alone since he was born. Now that he has me with him in death, we should be happy. He finally won't be alone."
Nora felt even more heartbroken.
If she could, she would wish for their family of five to be together, rather than him and Barrett dying while she, Magnus, and Soren lived on.
At that moment, the family doctor suddenly asked, "Mr. Porter, Mrs. Porter, should we treat Mr. Radcliffe's injuries?"
Mortimer's injuries looked quite severe, with blood all over him. It was unclear how serious his injuries were or if any vital organs were affected.
Nora stepped out of Isaac's embrace, wiped her tears, and her gaze instantly turned cold as she looked at Mortimer.
Mortimer looked at her weakly, his eyes filled with countless emotions.
Nora, however, only gave him a cold glance before looking away, calmly saying, "You are the family doctors hired by the Porter family. You should prioritize your employer. Isaac is also injured, and you should treat Isaac first. As for others, that's not your responsibility. Reporting to the police is already more than enough."
She didn't go up to harm Mortimer, which was already good enough. Expecting her to have the doctors save him? That was impossible!
Mortimer had caused so much harm to her children and played her for a fool. Even if he had just helped her, she wouldn't be grateful to him.
In comparison, his kindness to her couldn't offset the evil he had done to her and her children!
The family doctor glanced at Isaac.
Although Isaac was also injured, he could move normally, and those injuries didn't seem to affect him much.
But since Nora had said so, they couldn't treat Mortimer without permission.
Nora and Isaac left the scene, and the family doctors followed.
Mortimer painfully watched Nora's back, struggling to reach out, as if trying to grasp Nora's figure, but only caught a handful of air.
He watched helplessly as Nora walked further and further away until she disappeared from sight.
His hand fell in defeat, and his eyes closed in unwillingness.
"Nora, can we never go back to the way we were? Not even as friends?"
"Do you only have hatred left for me?"
Nora's gaze at him was hard to accept.
That gaze, filled with indifference and hatred, was like an invisible blade, constantly torturing his heart.
It shouldn't be like this.
He and Nora shouldn't have ended up like this.
He had schemed for so long, not to make Nora hate him.
"Is it that only if I die for you, will it lessen your hatred for me? Will it make you remember me forever?"
Nora was a soft-hearted person. If he died saving her, she would remember him for the rest of her life.
His entire youth had been spent trying to win her over. He couldn't accept the fact that she hated him.
Rather than living and being hated by her as an enemy, it was better to die for her and be remembered forever.
"Nora, I swear, this is the last time, the last time I'll scheme against you."
He painfully picked up the dagger and stabbed it into his heart when on one was looking.
Because the car was destroyed and the children were frightened, their journey had to be postponed.
Isaac contacted the family's bodyguards to drive them back home.
The three children were terribly scared. After returning home, Nora and Isaac comforted them for a long time before they calmed down.
After settling the three children, Nora spoke to Isaac alone, "Let's go find Rhys again and have him check you. Maybe he has a way."
Isaac shook his head, "If he had a way to deal with this poison, he would have found out the cause when I fell ill for no reason back then and wouldn't have let Daxton threaten you. It's useless. Don't bother anymore."
Nora refused to give up, saying, "What if his skills have improved? Let's check again. It won't take much time."
Isaac sighed, "Alright, let's do as you say and check again."
Afraid that Isaac would change his mind, Nora immediately called Rhys, explained the situation, and told him about Isaac being poisoned to see if he could find out.
Rhys was very surprised but agreed immediately.
At the hospital, Nora and Isaac went to Rhys's office.
As soon as Rhys saw them, he urgently asked, "Nora, you said on the phone that Isaac was poisoned?"
Nora gave a bitter smile and said, "Isaac was poisoned. You didn't find out he was poisoned before."
Rhys looked Isaac up and down, then walked over to re-examine him.
"All the diagnostics show no problems." Rhys frowned, "Who poisoned him?"
Nora answered, "Daxton."
Rhys's face darkened with anger, "That old bastard, he's really something. As Isaac's father, not only did he not support Isaac, but he also schemed against him at every turn. Isaac is truly unfortunate to have such a father!"
Rhys took a deep breath, suppressing his anger, and continued to ask, "Tell me in detail, when was Isaac poisoned? What are the specific symptoms?"
Nora then told Rhys everything she knew.
After listening, Rhys was once again surprised, "Isaac's unexplained illness three years ago and the vomiting blood a few months ago were both caused by poison?"
"If that's the case, it's troublesome. Isaac had two unexplained critical illnesses. I did thorough examinations both times and found no problems. I even took X-rays and found nothing, no signs of poisoning."
Nora gritted her teeth and said, "Check again. Maybe after Daxton's death, the poison became active and can be detected now?"
