Chapter 534 Why Not Pretend Anymore?
Nora and Mortimer took Magnus and Soren to a DIY pottery shop.
Handicrafts could cultivate children's creativity and practical skills.
Moreover, making pottery allowed them to play with clay, which Magnus and Soren both loved.
Magnus and Soren were initially in a bad mood because they encountered Isaac and Amara.
But as they played, they quickly forgot those unpleasant feelings and seriously used their imagination to create all kinds of oddly shaped bowls and cups.
The four of them played until the evening, and Magnus and Soren were still reluctant to leave.
Nora and Mortimer took Magnus and Soren to a restaurant in the mall for dinner, then returned to the pottery shop to pick up their dried ceramic pieces, and the four of them happily went home.
Magnus and Soren were very fond of the bowls they made themselves.
Mortimer dropped them off at their doorstep.
"Thank you for today. It's getting late, you should head home. Be careful on the way," Nora said with a smile.
She didn't intend to let Mortimer in.
It was already 9 PM, and she and the children needed to tidy up and go to bed, so it was inconvenient to let him in.
Mortimer smiled, "Alright, you all get some rest too. I'll come see you tomorrow."
Nora nodded.
Just as Mortimer was about to leave, Magnus suddenly spoke timidly, looking at Nora with hopeful eyes, "Mommy, can Uncle Mortimer stay?"
Nora frowned.
Magnus grabbed her hand and gently shook it, pleading, "Mommy, please, I like Uncle Mortimer and want him to stay with us."
Then he looked at Soren and asked, "Soren, do you like Uncle Mortimer? Do you want Uncle Mortimer to stay with us?"
Soren nodded without hesitation, "Yes, I like Uncle Mortimer. I want him to stay with us!"
"We used to live with Uncle Mortimer before we came back to Mommy."
"Now that we're back, we can't live with Uncle Mortimer anymore, and it makes me feel really sad."
Soren said this with a sad expression, looking very upset.
But soon, she looked at Nora and said in a sweet childlike voice, "Mommy, now that Mr. Porter doesn't live here anymore, can Uncle Mortimer stay with us?"
Nora shook her head, "No, it wouldn't be good for Uncle Mortimer. People will gossip about him."
Soren tilted her head in confusion, "Why would people gossip? What would they say?"
"Uncle Mortimer used to live with us all the time, and it was fine. Why can't he now?"
Nora said, "That was abroad. Things are different here."
Soren pouted unhappily.
Mortimer said seriously, "Nora, I don't care about gossip or what people say."
He meant that as long as she let him stay, he would stay, regardless of what others said.
As long as she didn't mind, he didn't mind either.
Nora understood his implication but still shook her head.
Magnus looked disappointed and said gloomily, "The doctor said I need to stay happy. Seeing Uncle Mortimer makes me happy. Can't Uncle Mortimer stay with us?"
Nora couldn't refuse when it came to Magnus's health.
She sighed silently and said, "If it really makes you happy, I'll grant your request."
Magnus's health was more important than anything.
"Really?" Magnus's eyes lit up instantly, looking at Nora in surprise.
Nora smiled and nodded, "Of course it's true. Why would I lie to you?"
"Thank you, Mommy!" Magnus excitedly hugged Nora's leg, rubbing his little face against it.
Then he looked at Mortimer, "Uncle Mortimer, can you move in with us?"
Mortimer looked at Nora, seeking her approval.
Although Nora had agreed, she had said it to Magnus, not to him.
He wanted her to invite him personally.
Nora said, "If it's convenient for you, please stay and keep Magnus company. And please visit him often."
"Magnus can't go to school now and has to stay home every day. He's very bored. If you can visit him often, he will be very happy."
Mortimer looked at her deeply, "What about you?"
Nora smiled, "Of course, I'll be happy too. If Magnus is happy, I'm happy."
Mortimer chuckled, "Alright, since you all want me to stay, I'll listen to you."
"I bought the apartment upstairs earlier. My things and clothes are there. I'll go get them. You go inside first, and I'll be down soon."
Nora was a bit surprised. When did Mortimer buy the apartment upstairs?
But she didn't ask further and nodded lightly.
Soren asked in a sweet childlike voice, "Uncle Mortimer, do you need our help?"
Mortimer smiled and rubbed her little head, "No, there's not much. I can handle it myself."
Soren said happily, "Okay, then hurry up, Uncle Mortimer. I want you to tell me a story!"
Mortimer smiled and nodded.
When he used to take care of Magnus and Soren alone, he often told them stories. This was no problem for him.
Although he had a purpose in helping Nora take care of Magnus and Soren, his kindness to them was genuine, without any pretense.
Nora said, "I'll send you the code for the lock on WhatsApp. When you come down, you can let yourself in."
Mortimer nodded, "Alright, you take them inside first."
Nora said no more and took Magnus and Soren inside.
Mortimer closed the door for them and then turned to go upstairs.
He didn't take the elevator but headed for the stairwell.
As soon as he walked through the stairwell door, a figure suddenly rushed out from the corner behind the door and punched him.
Mortimer reacted quickly, grabbing Isaac's wrist.
At the same time, Mortimer kicked Isaac in the abdomen.
As Isaac dodged to the side, Mortimer used his body to slam Isaac against the wall, punching him in the face with his other hand.
Mortimer skillfully pinned Isaac's other hand, preventing him from blocking or retaliating.
After landing the punch, Isaac lifted his foot to kick him.
Mortimer, not wanting to prolong the fight, immediately released Isaac and quickly retreated several steps, putting distance between them.
"Isaac, what are you doing here?" Mortimer asked with a smile, but there was no surprise in his eyes, as if he had expected Isaac to show up.
Isaac looked at Mortimer with dark eyes, "You used to pretend you couldn't beat me. Why aren't you pretending now?"
