Chapter 157 Falling Off a Cliff

"My dad called me today. He said that after my grandpa found out about my situation, he was so angry that he fainted and was hospitalized. He still hasn't woken up. Grandpa ends up like this because of me. If anything happens to him, I don't want to live either," as Sophia spoke, she cried harder.

Seven years ago, she had a falling out with her family because she insisted on dating Cole.

But her Grandpa felt sorry for Sophia and would often secretly transfer money to her, hiding it from her parents.

That was also why Sophia had enough money to buy a house.

But now, the Grandpa who loved her the most was critically ill because of her.

Sophia didn't deserve to live in this world!

"Calm down. Even though your Grandpa is hospitalized because of your situation, it's not your fault. You're also a victim. The root cause isn't you." Nora hugged Sophia, comforting her with concern.

"Your Grandpa loves you so much. If he knows you are thinking of dying, how heartbroken would he be? He wants you to be well. If you're worried about your Grandpa, go back and see him and stay with him. He must have fallen ill because he is worried about you, not because he feels you disgraced him!" Nora added. Sophia cried uncontrollably.

Nora could only hold Sophia tightly and gently pat her back.

After a long time, Sophia finally controlled her emotions."You're right. I should take care of Grandpa now. If he doesn't make it, I'll join him," Sophia said.

Nora hurriedly said, "Don't say things like that. No matter what, you have to live well. Your Grandpa wants you to live well."

Sophia gave a bitter smile.

'I know my Grandpa wants me to live well. But living is so exhausting. This world is so cruel. I don't know how long I could hold on if my Grandpa really passes away,' Sophia thought.

Sophia gathered her thoughts and choked out, "I'll go see my Grandpa after I get rid of the baby."

Nora asked, "When are you going? I'll go with you."

Sophia said, "I go to the hospital to make an appointment today. I have to wait until next Monday."

Nora nodded.

She helped Sophia up, took her back to her room to rest, and then came back to clean up the wine bottles.

The next morning, Nora bought breakfast for Sophia before heading to the Mortimer's to pick up the kids.

Magnus and Soren were already dressed and eagerly waiting in the yard.

When they saw Nora, they ran to her like two wild horses.

"Mommy, you're finally here. Let's go!" The two little ones hugged her legs, looking up at her excitedly. Nora's face lit up with a gentle smile.

She crouched down and kissed them on their cheeks. The two little ones immediately gave her kisses in return.

At that moment, Mortimer came out of the villa."I've had the camping gear loaded into the car. Let's get going," Mortimer said.

Nora asked, "Are you coming too? Aren't you working today?"

Mortimer smiled. "It's Saturday. I'm off."

Nora couldn't tell him not to come since he had prepared everything, so she got in the car with him.

The car drove to the foot of a mountain in the suburbs. There were beautiful scenery and fresh air. It was a perfect camping spot.

"Wow, Mommy, it's so pretty here. I want to play in the water!" Soren took off her little shoes and excitedly ran towards the river, holding Magnus' hand.

"The riverbank is dangerous. Don't go into the water!" Nora called out urgently.

But the two kids didn't listen at all.

Mortimer said, "The river here is shallow, only up to an adult's calf, but it's still somewhat dangerous for children. You should watch them while I unload the gear."

"Okay," Nora said.

Nora hurriedly chased after them.

"Mommy!" Soren playfully scooped up water and splashed it on Nora.

Nora was both amused and exasperated. "Be careful. Don't get your clothes wet."

Though it was sunny today, the weather was getting colder. Getting wet could easily lead to a cold.

Just as Nora finished speaking, Soren dove straight into the water.

Magnus followed suit, jumping in and getting himself completely soaked.

"Wet!" Soren said happily.

Nora was speechless.

'Where do they get this rebellious streak?' Nora pondered.

Soren sweetly said, "Don't worry, Mommy. Magnus and I can swim. We won't drown!"

Nora said, "I'm worried you'll catch a cold."

Soren said, "Magnus and I are very healthy. We won't get sick!"

Magnus nodded seriously, "That's right. Soren and I exercise every day. We're very healthy!"

Nora sighed helplessly.

Forget it. It was rare for the kids to have so much fun. Let them be.

"There are little fish here. I want to catch some to eat!" Magnus and Soren suddenly noticed fish swimming in the river and were immediately captivated.

From a distance, Mortimer tossed over a fishnet and said to Nora, "Use this to help them catch fish."

Nora picked up the net and joined the kids in catching fish.

Nora played with the kids for almost an hour, catching a few small fish and collecting many colorful stones. The two kids were soaking wet but had smiles on their faces the whole time.

Mortimer had already set up the tent, arranged the table, and laid out the food.

Nora took the kids back to the car to change into dry clothes, then brought them to the lawn to eat.

After eating, they changed into hiking gear and started climbing the mountain.

Mortimer led the way. The two kids walked in the middle while Nora followed behind to protect them.

"Mommy, this tree looks so strange. What kind of tree is it? This flower is so pretty! Can we eat this fruit? Mommy, there's a fish with tattoos here." Along the way, Soren excitedly shared everything new and interesting with Nora.

When she saw a snake, she even wanted to catch it!

Nora broke out in a cold sweat and quickly threw a rock to scare the snake away. She sternly explained the dangers of venomous snakes to Soren, telling her not to touch anything unfamiliar in the future.

After climbing for over an hour, the two kids were too tired to continue.

Nora and Mortimer decided to rest where they were. But then, the weather suddenly changed. The previously clear sky became overcast. It started to pour.

The whole process took less than ten minutes. Mortimer hadn't prepared any rain gear, so the four of them were quickly soaked.

"I check the weather forecast. It says no rain today. How does it start raining all of a sudden?" Mortimer frowned. "Let's find a place to take shelter. I see a cave a bit further up when we are at the bend below. Let's head there."

Adults could handle a bit of rain, but kids were more vulnerable and could easily get sick.

"Okay. Magnus, Soren, let's go a bit further. Hang in there," Nora said.

Magnus and Soren weren't too pampered. Though they were tired, they nodded obediently.

The four of them started climbing again. But as they walked, rocks suddenly started tumbling down the mountain.

A rock hit Soren. She instinctively dodged but accidentally stepped on a loose stone, losing her balance and falling to the side.

And where they were standing was a cliff on one side. Soren was falling towards the cliff.

"Soren, watch out!" Nora changed her face dramatically. She subconsciously rushed over and grabbed Soren.

Soren was pulled up, but the ground under Nora's feet was unstable. She fell off the cliff.

"Nora!" Mortimer called out.

"Mommy!" Soren and Magnus shouted.
