Chapter 223 Nora's Suspicion
Isaac's fists clenched up tight, every nerve in his body on edge. "Spill it," he growled.
Wesley, panting, blurted out, "The director got into a car crash the day after the surgery and slipped into a coma. He hasn't woken up since!
"The director was the main surgeon, so he knew all the details. Now, with him out cold, we're in the dark.
"But I tracked down the medical staff from that day. They said near the end of the surgery, the director accidentally kicked out the heart monitor plug.
"After plugging it back in, the heart monitor went haywire, and the director called the rescue a bust, ending with the patient dead."
No solid answers yet, but it was clear something fishy went down during that rescue!
Isaac's breathing got heavy, and he started shaking.
If there were issues with the rescue, it meant they were up to something shady, and they staged an accident to cover their tracks.
Now that Griffin spotted Nora in Drakonia, it proved they had some sneaky plans.
They wanted him to think Nora was dead and then whisk her away in secret!
Rhys chimed in, "The director's been a doctor for decades. How could he make such a basic mistake as unplugging the heart monitor plug?
"Something's definitely off with that surgery. Isaac, you gotta dig deeper!"
Isaac took a deep breath and said, "Wesley, send more people to Drakonia to investigate, especially Mortimer. Keep digging at the hospital too."
Wesley nodded seriously, "Got it, I'll get on it right away!"
Isaac's fists tightened, silently promising that if Nora was still alive, he'd find her!
He needed to make things right with Nora!
In Drakonia, Nora followed Mortimer back home.
She was super chill the whole way, not asking Mortimer a thing.
This calmed Mortimer down a bit. He'd been worried Nora might believe Griffin and start doubting him.
Looked like he was overthinking it.
Nora must've bought his story, thinking Griffin was just trying to scam them.
"It's late. Go wash up and get some rest. You just woke up from a coma not long ago, and you're still weak. You need to rest," Mortimer said gently.
Nora nodded, "Okay, you should rest too."
Mortimer smiled, "You've agreed to my proposal. I need to pick a date soon to get engaged."
Nora replied, "No rush. We can take our time picking a date."
"I can't wait to marry you." Mortimer looked at her with so much love, his voice shaking with excitement, "Nora, I've waited too long. I'm scared of more accidents. I'm scared of losing you, so I want to make it official ASAP."
Nora was taken aback and asked, "Haven't we always been good? Why are you so insecure?"
She could see Mortimer's worry and fear.
But she couldn't figure out why he was so uneasy.
Their relationship was solid, and she loved him deeply, with no plans to leave him.
Mortimer's unease seemed a bit over the top.
Mortimer's smile faltered for a second but quickly bounced back.
He sighed, "I'm scared you'll get hurt again. You were out cold for half a month after that last accident. Even though you're okay now, I still have nightmares about it. Just thinking about it freaks me out.
"So, I wanna marry you ASAP. Once we're hitched, we can be together all the time, even at night. I need you around to feel calm."
Nora giggled and tried to soothe him, "You don't need to stress so much. I'm fine now, and there won't be any more accidents."
Mortimer chuckled too, but a shadow crossed his eyes.
The real reason for his anxiety was something Nora would never know.
He was terrified she'd leave him.
Everything he had now was stolen.
Even though Nora was with him every day, believed she loved him, and had agreed to his proposal, everything was going according to his plan, he still felt this stolen happiness was unreal and shaky.
Especially with Griffin showing up today, his unease skyrocketed.
Griffin's appearance made him realize that even though Nora loved him now and had forgotten all about the past, she could still be taken away.
If Isaac knew Nora was still alive, he definitely wouldn't let it go.
Isaac would definitely come to fight for Nora.
Even though Nora had been hypnotized, he still couldn't guarantee he could win against Isaac.
He was scared she'd leave him.
Mortimer pulled himself together, pushed down his inner chaos, and smiled as he gently ruffled Nora's hair. He said softly, "As long as you're with me, I won't be uneasy. Go rest now."
"Okay, good night." Nora gave him a sweet smile and headed to her room.
Mortimer gently closed the door behind her.
After freshening up in the bathroom, Nora lay on her bed.
Her mind kept drifting back to the guy she met at the restaurant entrance.
That guy knew her name. Was he really just someone who'd dug up dirt on her and Mortimer to stir up trouble?
She carefully replayed the encounter with the guy who called himself Griffin; his eyes didn't seem like those of a troublemaker.
But Mortimer said they didn't know him and that he was just causing trouble.
Mortimer was the guy she liked, who was so good to her, so gentle and kind. He wouldn't lie to her.
Subconsciously, Nora wanted to believe Mortimer more.
But Griffin's words kept popping back into her head.
"Isaac..." She softly murmured the name Griffin had mentioned.
Griffin said she was married to Mr. Porter, whose name was Isaac.
Saying this name made her feel something weird in her heart.
Nora couldn't help but rub her chest.
She frowned, puzzled, her mind buzzing with questions.
Why did the name Isaac make her feel this way?
It was really strange.
She hesitated for a moment, then grabbed her phone, opened the search app, and typed "Isaac" in the search bar.
The search results showed info about Isaac.
Nora clicked on the info and read it carefully.
[Isaac. 27 years old. From Horizonia. Heir to the Porter Family, the top family in Horizonia, and current president of Porter Group. Married.]
Nora's eyes locked onto the word "married."
Her heart suddenly skipped a beat, and her pulse went wild.
Griffin mentioned she was married to Isaac.
She just needed to find out Isaac's wife's name and look at her photo, and she might have the answer.
Nora immediately searched: [Isaac's wife personal information.]
Soon, the results popped up.
