Chapter 78 Kalista Agreed to Work with Nora
Nora said, "It's a long story. I'll tell you once we get back home."
"You better leave now, in case my ex-husband finds out that I escaped and sends someone to bring me back," she said.
Steve didn't ask any further and immediately stepped on the gas, driving away.
Once they arrived home, Steve helped Nora pour a cup of hot water.
They both sat down on the sofa.
Before Steve could start asking, Nora spoke first, saying, "I'm pregnant. My ex-husband thinks that the child in my belly is his."
"He wants me to keep the baby, so he forcefully brought me back and demanded that I stay in his house until the child is born before I can leave."
"I don't want to stay there, but I have no way to leave openly, so I secretly avoided everyone and the surveillance and ran away."
"I lived there for three years and I know where to avoid the bodyguards' sight and surveillance cameras."
A hint of surprise appeared in Steve's eyes, "You're pregnant? Is the child really your ex-husband's?"
"Of course not!" Nora responded decisively, "Although my grandfather secretly tried to reconcile us after the divorce by giving us medicine."
"But we only had that one time, it's impossible to get pregnant that soon."
"Why is it impossible?" Steve asked.
Nora said, "His sperm quality was poor, it wouldn't be that easy to get pregnant."
Steve's mouth twitched. His sperm quality was poor?
If his sperm quality was poor, how did she get pregnant with his child four years ago?
"That shouldn't be right? He's so wealthy, he definitely takes a lot of supplements regularly, how could his sperm quality be poor?" Steve suppressed his anger and asked, pretending to be surprised.
Nora said, "We were married for three years and didn't use any contraception, but I never got pregnant. Do you think it's possible to get pregnant after just one night after the divorce?"
Steve gritted his teeth inwardly.
During those three years of marriage, she didn't use contraception, but he did. Of course, she couldn't get pregnant!
Steve suppressed his anger and said, "Oh? So whose child is in your belly?"
Nora furrowed her brows and looked at him in astonishment, "Of course it's yours, what else did you think? Did you think I got pregnant miraculously?"
A coolness flashed in Steve's eyes.
This morning when he brought her home, she even mentioned that there was a possibility that Mortimer could be the father. And now she was so sure that the child was his?
She really had different faces in front of different people!
"Are you sure?" Steve asked.
Perhaps because of the special nature of their relationship, she didn't feel angry even when he questioned her.
She nodded, "Yes, I'm sure. Besides that unexpected night with my ex-husband, I only had intimacy with you, and we were intimate multiple times. So it's highly likely the child is yours."
A flicker of doubt crossed Steve's eyes, "You haven't been intimate with other men? When I met your ex-husband last time, he told me that you had a very close male friend, saying that your relationship was extraordinary."
Nora looked at him in astonishment, "Isaac said that to you?"
Steve said, "Yes, men probably can't stand their ex's current partner, so he deliberately made sarcastic remarks to me, trying to influence our relationship."
"That bastard! I've already divorced him, and he's still talking bad about me behind my back, he has no integrity!" Nora was furious.
Then she explained, "But don't listen to him, that person he mentioned is just a good friend of mine, we don't have any improper relationship."
Steve stared into her eyes.
Seeing how earnestly she spoke, with anger but no hint of guilt in her eyes, he hesitated in his heart.
Did Nora and Mortimer really never have a relationship?
Nora had no need to lie to "Steve."
"So the child you're carrying is really mine? Then we..." Steve's mood suddenly improved. His gaze fell on her still-flat stomach.
No matter what, he had to make sure she gave birth to the child!
He wouldn't let her kill his child anymore.
"You don't have to worry about the child, I will handle it myself and you won't be responsible," Nora interrupted him.
Steve asked, "How do you plan to handle it?"
Nora placed her hand on her stomach, hesitated for a moment, and said, "I won't handle it for now, let's wait for a while."
Although she knew in her heart that this child couldn't be born.
But the thought of having to abort him still weighed on her conscience.
So, unless it was necessary, she wouldn't actively abort him.
If possible, she hoped to keep him until the three-month deadline came, and they would leave the world together.
That way, the child wouldn't be lonely after death.
Steve calmly said, "I understand that with our relationship, I have no right to influence how you handle this child, but if you choose to give birth to him, I will take responsibility for him."
"I don't need you to be responsible for me," Nora firmly refused, "I said our time together is three months, and now there are still two and a half months left. When the deadline is up, we'll go back to being strangers."
"I hope you can remember our relationship, don't fall in love with me, and don't imagine a long-term relationship with me, that's impossible."
"After the deadline, I will disappear completely, I hope you don't waste your emotions on me!"
Although she had some fondness for Steve.
But thinking about her remaining short life, she could only sever Steve's illusions with decisive words.
She couldn't let Steve develop feelings for her.
If during their time together, Steve fell in love with her.
When she passed away, he would definitely be saddened.
She didn't want her departure to bring harm to too many people.
Steve pursed his lips and looked deeply at her.
After a few seconds, he nodded slightly, "Alright, I will remember that we are in a transactional relationship."
Nora breathed a sigh of relief.
Fortunately, Steve was easier to communicate with, unlike Isaac who was so brutal and unreasonable.
The next day, Nora received a call from Mortimer.
"Nora, I have come up with a plan, and I have also discussed it with Kalista. She has agreed to cooperate with us," Mortimer said straightforwardly.
That day, Mortimer rescued Nora and took Kalista along as well.
During these days, he tormented Kalista, seeking revenge for Nora.
During these days, Isaac did not send anyone to find Kalista.
Isaac surely could not be unaware that he had captured Kalista.
So, there was only one possibility...
Isaac intentionally did not rescue Kalista, intentionally wanting to make her suffer more while in his hands.
Mortimer's eyes darkened a few shades.
It appeared that Isaac still had feelings for Nora, to the extent that he would be angry with Kalista because of Nora's injury.
Luckily, Nora took the initiative to ask for his help, allowing him to naturally create obstacles between them.
Otherwise, he would have to put in some effort to completely separate them.
