Chapter 422 Nora Becomes Suspicious
Seeing Isaac squatting by the bed, Rhys moved a chair over for him to sit down.
"Since Magnus specifically asked for you to stay with him, you should stay here with him. He needs to sleep more now; his body will heal faster when he's asleep," Rhys said softly.
Then, he nudged the still-shocked Nora, "Nora, let's go out first. You can come back later to switch with Isaac."
Nora walked out of the ward with Rhys in a daze.
After the ward door closed, she voiced blankly, "I don't understand."
Rhys asked, "What don't you understand?"
Nora looked at him, her eyes filled with confusion. "Isaac kicked Magnus and seriously injured him. Why isn't Magnus afraid of him or pushing him away? Why did he specifically ask for him to stay?"
Magnus wouldn't even let her stay.
Moreover, Magnus started talking because he saw Isaac.
She couldn't get it.
Why was this happening?
Rhys was silent for a moment, "Could it be that Magnus's injury wasn't Isaac's fault?"
Nora instinctively denied it, "But I was there. I saw with my own eyes that Isaac kicked Magnus."
Rhys said, "Isaac told me that he was aiming for Mortimer at the time. He didn't mean to hurt Magnus."
"Maybe Magnus knows that, which is why he doesn't blame Isaac."
Nora pressed her lips together, her eyes deep in thought.
Rhys persuaded earnestly, "Nora, children are actually very smart. They can clearly see who treats them well."
"Magnus still trusts and relies on Isaac even after being kicked by him. It shows that Isaac has always treated Magnus well, giving him a sense of security. That's why he still relies on Isaac."
Nora was silent.
Isaac had indeed been good to Magnus and Soren in the past.
Even during the time when Isaac deliberately distanced himself from Magnus and Soren, he didn't mistreat them. He was still good to them.
Rhys continued, "I know what you're thinking. Even if Isaac didn't do it on purpose, he still caused Magnus's injury. As Magnus's mother, it's normal for you to blame and hate him."
"But since Magnus is willing to let Isaac stay with him, for Magnus's better recovery, you should let them see each other."
"Adults shouldn't force their grudges onto kids."
Nora remained silent.
Rhys gave up, "I'll go check on Soren."
Nora stood at the ward door and looked through the small window at the harmonious scene inside.
After hesitating for a moment, she left to check on Soren.
Magnus's condition was stable now, and Isaac was with him. There was no point in her staying.
She went to check on Soren's condition.
After examining Soren, Rhys said to her, "Soren is recovering well, but be careful not to expose her to loud noises. Her eardrum is still very fragile and hasn't fully healed yet. Any loud sounds could cause damage."
"Also, she should avoid strenuous activities, as they could also damage her eardrum."
"Make sure her ears stay dry and prevent insects from flying into her ear canal."
Nora nodded, "Okay, I'll be careful."
"How long will it take for her to fully recover?"
Rhys replied, "This can't be rushed. It depends on her individual recovery."
"But based on her recovery trend, in about a month, you won't have to be so cautious. You can communicate with her normally."
Nora let out a long sigh of relief.
After enduring for so long, they were finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
In the evening, Nora had dinner with Soren.
Then she took food to Sophia, reminding her to eat well.
Finally, she brought some porridge from the kitchen to Magnus's ward.
Magnus hadn't eaten for a long time and could only have some light liquid food. After a few days of adjusting his stomach, he could switch to other foods. Otherwise, it would burden his stomach and be bad for his health.
When she entered the ward, Barrett was already awake.
Isaac must have said something to him because Barrett looked much better, full of energy.
Nora walked to the bedside and said to Isaac, "You go eat. I'll stay here."
Isaac nodded, "Okay."
Barrett was holding Isaac's hand, and it seemed like their hands had never separated.
"Daddy, will you come back?" Barrett asked reluctantly.
He was very understanding, knowing that Isaac needed to eat. He didn't throw a tantrum or stop him from leaving; he was just concerned if he would come back.
Isaac replied softly, "Yes, I'll come back after I eat. Be good and listen to your mommy."
Barrett obediently noded, "Okay."
He reluctantly let go of Isaac's hand.
Isaac got up and left.
Barrett kept looking at Isaac's back.
Nora felt a pang of sadness and sourness.
She still couldn't understand why Magnus relied on Isaac so much.
Nora collected her thoughts, opened the food box, took out the porridge, blew on it to cool it down, and brought it to Barrett's mouth.
Barrett cooperated and ate it one bite at a time.
But he didn't have much of an appetite and couldn't eat more than half a bowl.
Nora didn't force him. She put the porridge away and admonished softly, "Eat when you're hungry. Just let me know when you need something."
"Okay," Barrett agreed obediently.
Nora didn't leave immediately.
She sat by the bed, looking at Barrett with a complicated expression.
Barrett voiced softly, "Mommy, you're scaring me by looking at me like that."
Nora quickly hid her emotions and put on a gentle smile, "What are you afraid of? Mommy won't hurt you."
Barrett pressed his lips together.
Seeing Barrett, Nora suddenly realized that Magnus didn't show any fear or panic when he was alone with her now.
But this morning, when Magnus saw her, he was clearly scared.
What was going on?
Suddenly, it was like a bolt of lightning hit Nora's mind, and she realized something.
Mortimer was there at the time!
Could it be that Magnus was afraid of Mortimer, not her?
How could that be!
Magnus had always liked Mortimer.
Back at home, Magnus would always fuss about wanting to see Mortimer. If he wasn't allowed to see Mortimer, he would throw a tantrum and make everyone miserable.
To appease Magnus, she had taken him to see Mortimer every night after school for a long time.

Nora suddenly remembered what Isaac had said.
Isaac said that Mortimer had deliberately turned around while holding Magnus, purposely making Magnus bump into his foot.
