Chapter 262 Three with Unspoken Thoughts, Concealing from Each Other
Isaac squinted in confusion. "Not for me? Then why'd you buy it?"
For himself? They say the older you get, the more you turn into a kid again. Maybe he really did buy it for himself.
Edmund chuckled. "I got it for the two kids at Nora's store!"
Isaac's face darkened. He thought, 'Those kids are Nora and Mortimer's illegitimate children. Why's Edmund buying them gifts?'
Isaac felt a pang of discomfort but didn't want Edmund to know the truth, fearing it would upset him.
Edmund's health was already shaky; he couldn't let him stress over this mess.
"Why buy for them? They're just some random kids. You don't need to be so nice to them," Isaac said.
Edmund's eyes widened, and he looked at him angrily, his voice rising. "What did you say? You called them random kids?"
Isaac frowned. "Why are you so worked up?"
"You idiot, you're driving me nuts!" Edmund pointed at him, his face turning from pale to red with anger.
"Please don't stress yourself out. Your health is important," Isaac reached out to support Edmund, advising him with concern.
Edmund angrily shook off his hand. "Get out now. I'll talk to you after I'm done shopping!"
There were too many people around; it wasn't the right place to talk.
Isaac glanced at the furious Edmund and said nothing more, turning to walk to the store's entrance.
He stood at the entrance, watching the bodyguards Edmund had brought, carrying large bags of items out of the store one after another.
Is Edmund planning to empty the store? When Isaac was a kid, he never made such a big fuss buying toys for him.
Isaac couldn't understand why Grandpa liked those two kids so much. He considered telling him that they were Nora and Mortimer's children, but he feared the result: Grandpa getting mad and possibly having a heart attack.
So he made up his mind. 'For his health, I better keep it a secret. Besides, Edmund likes Nora so much. If he knew she and Mortimer had kids, he'd be even more upset and angry.'
After buying the toys, Edmund went on to buy a bunch of clothes and shoes for the kids.
By the time they finished shopping, it was already getting dark.
Isaac supported Edmund as they walked out of the mall.
"Do you usually make dinner for Nora, Magnus, and Soren?" Edmund suddenly asked.
Isaac paused, then nodded. "Yeah, I have been lately."
"It's getting late, go back and make dinner. Don't let Nora and the kids go hungry."
"I'll take you home first. And I'll call Nora that I'll be back later. She can make dinner herself or order takeout."
Edmund glared at him. "You know how Nora's cooking is, and you still want her to cook? And girls shouldn't be in the kitchen, the oil smoke is bad for their skin!"
Isaac said with a headache, "Didn't I also suggest ordering takeout?"
Edmund got even angrier. "Takeout is unhealthy!"
Isaac felt that Edmund was being a bit unreasonable today.
Before he could speak, Edmund said, "Let's go to Nora's place. I'll have dinner there too. Go buy some groceries!"
Isaac had to follow his instructions.
He went to grab groceries while calling Nora, "Hey, you home? I'll be back to cook later. I'm with Grandpa, and he's coming with me."
Nora asked nervously, "Did Grandpa say anything to you?"
Isaac replied, "Nope. Did he say anything to you when he visited today?"
Nora said, "He didn't say much... I'm on my way home now. Take care of Grandpa, and I'll see you at home."
Isaac's lips curled into a smile. "Alright, see you at home."
Nora walked back with Magnus and Soren, feeling anxious. She didn't know if Edmund had figured out their real identities.
She pondered, 'If he hadn't, why does he like Magnus and Soren so much? Why did he spend so much time with them? If he had figured it out, why didn't he say anything? Not to her, not to Isaac either?'
Nora shook her head.
Forget it, no point in worrying.
When Nora and the kids reached the entrance of the community, Isaac and Edmund arrived at the same time.
"Magnus, Soren, we meet again, hahaha~" Edmund, like an old child, smiled kindly as soon as he saw Magnus and Soren.
"Great-grandpa Edmund, Uncle Isaac, why did you come together?" Soren asked, tilting her head adorably.
Edmund laughed. "There aren't many people at my house, and it's lonely to eat alone, so I came to eat with you. Do you welcome me for dinner?"
"Of course, we do~" Soren said in her sweet childlike voice.
Edmund was amused and laughed heartily.
He held Magnus in one hand and Soren in the other, leading them into the community, leaving Nora and Isaac behind.
Nora looked at the three of them with a complicated expression.
Isaac's face was grim, and he felt so frustrated that he could hardly breathe.
What was Edmund doing?
Even if Edmund didn't know that Magnus and Soren were Nora and Mortimer's kids, he shouldn't be so enthusiastic and kind to two random kids!
Isaac pressed his lips together and walked forward with a sullen face.
Back home, he gloomily carried the groceries into the kitchen.
Edmund played games with Magnus and Soren in the living room.
"Nora, go help Isaac in the kitchen. We have a lot of people today, and it will take him a long time to cook alone. If you help, it will be faster, and the kids won't go hungry," Edmund said with a smile.
Nora nodded obediently. "Got it. Magnus, Soren, be careful and don't get too rowdy and hurt Edmund."
She wasn't worried about the kids falling; she was worried about Edmund getting knocked over by their rough play.
Old people couldn't afford to fall; a fall could lead to big problems.
"Okay!" Soren nodded with a smile.
Nora went into the kitchen. She couldn't cook, so she could only help Isaac wash the vegetables. She washed a basket of greens and turned to give them to Isaac.
As she turned, she bumped into Isaac's chest. She gasped softly and instinctively stepped back, dropping the greens.
"Careful." Isaac caught the falling basket and wrapped his other arm around her waist, pulling her back from falling.
Nora's body collided with his firm chest, his warm body heat seeping through the thin fabric, making her face flush red and her mind go blank.
Isaac looked down at her flushed cheeks, his breath suddenly tightening.
He lowered his head and kissed her lips.
