Chapter 34 Do You Hate Me?

A sharp pang hit Nora's heart.

What was Kalista doing in Isaac's room?

Shortly after, more messages from Kalista came through.

"Nora, guess where I am right now? I'm in Isaac's room at the Porter Family estate, lying on his bed as we speak. Do you know why I'm here? It's because last night, Isaac was drugged by his grandfather, losing control and being intimate with you, which made him feel disgusted. So, tonight, he specifically invited me over to spend the night entangled in passion, to erase the memories of displeasure from last night. And, by the way, to have my scent cover up the nauseating smell you left behind. From now on, whenever he lies on this bed, it will only be the sweet memories of our embrace that he recalls!"

Nora's complexion turned ghostly pale.

Isaac had actually brought Kalista back to the family estate.

And to make matters worse, he planned to be intimate with her on the very same bed where he and Nora had been together.

That was the Porter Family estate, a place Kalista could not possibly be without the permission of the household.
The grandparents had no fondness for Kalista; it couldn't have been them who brought her over.

So, there was only one possibility.

It was Isaac who had willfully brought Kalista back.

"Isaac, do you really hate me that much? Does being intimate with me disgust you to the extent that you had to bring Kalista over just to mask my scent?"

Nora's heart felt as though it was being torn apart with searing pain.

A suffocating tightness spread unrelentingly in her chest.

Clutching her heart, Nora gasped for air, her body shaking violently.

Despite the fact that Nora hadn't thought about being with Isaac again after their divorce, her grandfather's scheming the night before had left her furious.

Still, Isaac's actions had hurt her deeply.

Her phone chimed with several messages from Kalista.

Nora, don't delude yourself into thinking that by conspiring with Isaac's grandfather and resorting to despicable tactics to sleep with him, he will remarry you.

You're dreaming if you think that. Isaac only wants to marry me; he feels nothing but disgust and aversion toward you!

He'll never get back with you in this lifetime, so stop using his grandfather to get close to him!

You'd better stay away from him and stop climbing into his bed!

Isaac told me that if it weren't for the drugs, he'd rather sleep with a man than touch you!

Reading these texts and recalling the words she had accidentally overheard Isaac say to his grandfather earlier that day, the pain in Nora's heart intensified.

She hadn't conspired with her grandfather against Isaac.

She was also a victim of last night's incident.

Had she known her grandfather intended to drug them, she would surely have intervened.

She didn't want to remarry Isaac, either.

But in the end, she didn't reply to any of the messages.

Because she knew no matter how much she explained, Kalista wouldn't believe her.

---

The Porter family estate was stirring again tonight as Isaac was summoned home by Edmund.

However, a crucial company meeting had delayed him.

When he arrived at the estate, it was nearly nine in the evening.

With a stern face, Edmund scolded, "All day, nothing but work—do you value it more than your own family? Is it really that hard to make it home when you're called?"
"Didn't I just come back yesterday?" Isaac said quietly.

Edmund huffed, "And you ate yesterday, too, right? Does that mean you're skipping meals today? I'm getting on in years, and my days are numbered. For all we know, I might fall asleep one night and never wake up. You might find you can't see me when you want to."

"Grandpa, don't talk like that," Isaac frowned, quickly cutting him off.

He glanced around the room; aside from the household staff, there was no one else.

He seemed somewhat disappointed.

Edmund waved it off and said, "Alright, let's drop it. You just got back from the office and haven't eaten, right? Go get some food before you starve yourself."

Isaac asked warily, "Grandpa, you're not going to spike my food again in an attempt to set me up with Nora, are you?"

Edmund replied with disdain, "Nora didn't come today. Even if you wanted to see her, you couldn't."

Only then did Isaac relax.

Without Nora around, Grandpa wouldn't be plotting anything.

Isaac went to the dining room to eat.

But as soon as he finished his meal, that familiar sensation hit him again.

Isaac's face instantly soured as he stared angrily at Edmund. "Grandpa, you drugged me again? Didn't you say you wouldn't do it today?!"

"When did I say that? I only denied that I was trying to set you up with Nora—I never said I didn't drug you!" Edmund declared boldly.

Isaac's face turned ashen, clenching his teeth, "Is there a difference?"

"Of course, there's a big difference!" Edmund retorted, "Okay, that drug is pretty potent and acts fast. You better head upstairs; someone's been waiting there for quite a while."

Isaac glared at Edmund and swiftly marched upstairs, flushed with anger.

He was outwardly blaming Edmund, but the realization that he'd been duped again sparked a hint of excitement within him.

Opening the door to his room, only the floor lamp was on, casting a dim, suggestive glow.

Underneath the quilt on the bed, someone was there.

Whoever it was seemed to be twisting around, silently beckoning him.

Isaac felt the flames inside him blaze hotter, all the passion focusing intensely.

He strode across the room and planted himself over the quilt.

"Nora."
His voice came out low and husky, murmuring a name in tender entanglement.

Right after these two syllables left his lips, the person beneath the covers went rigid.

The next second, the blanket was flung aside, revealing a face he never expected to see.

"Isaac, it's me."

Kalista looked up at him with a pout mixed with shyness, a storm of anger swirling in her eyes.

Nora.

Was Nora the only one in his heart?

"What are you doing here?" Isaac's face went pale as an icy chill emanated from him upon recognizing the unexpected face.

He rolled over swiftly, ready to get up.

But Kalista was quick. Her hand snaked out to encircle his neck.

"Isaac, don't go. You're in pain, right? Let me help you. I promise to take care of you so well that you'll feel completely relaxed!"

She pulled down the blanket, baring her naked body.

Pressing her body against his, she leaned up to kiss him.
