Chapter 237 Nora Was Poisoned, Which Leads to Stomach Cancer
"Mortimer, spill it! Where did you send Magnus and Soren?" Nora's voice cracked as tears streamed down her face.
Her kids were out there somewhere, and she had no clue where. Her heart was breaking.
Mortimer spoke slowly, "I don't know where they are."
"How can you not know?!" Nora's voice shook. "Back then, you were the one looking after Magnus and Soren. How can you not know where they are?"
Mortimer explained, "At that time, all I could think about was taking care of you. I had someone send them to a good family for adoption, but I never asked where exactly they went."
Nora's chest heaved with anger, making it hard to breathe. "Why did you send them away? You promised me that even if I wasn't around, you'd take care of them for me. I even gave you money!"
Mortimer apologized, "I'm sorry. After that, I just wanted to be with you. I was in no mood to take care of them. I thought finding a good family to adopt them would be better for them."
Nora laughed bitterly. "A good family? You didn't even check where they went or who they went to. Is that what you call finding them a good home?"
Mortimer stayed silent.
Nora took a deep breath, trying to calm down. "I don't want to talk about this now. Go find the person who sent them away! I just want to find them now! If you help me find them, I won't blame you. I'm serious."
Mortimer gently said, "Got it, I'll check. As soon as I find out, I'll let you know."
Nora nodded softly. She didn't dare to push Mortimer too hard.
After all, only Mortimer could know where Magnus and Soren were.
After losing her memory, she no longer trusted Mortimer. She also didn't dare to mention that Magnus and Soren had called her.
Nora suppressed her anger and sincerely said to Mortimer, "Mortimer, you've helped me a lot, and I've always been grateful to you. I've always considered you a good friend and benefactor. Even if you deceived me this time, I won't blame you. Your kindness to me outweighs the harm. So, if you know where Magnus and Soren are, please bring them back to me. You'll still be my good friend and the person Magnus and Soren love the most."
Mortimer's heart ached with guilt. "Got it," he finally replied.
In Rhys's office.
Isaac pushed the door open and walked in. "What did you mean by what you said on the phone earlier?"
Rhys nodded towards the door. "Close the door first."
Isaac closed the door and sat down facing Rhys, his eyes sharp and intense.
Rhys sighed and said, "I took a blood sample from Nora and found some issues."
Isaac clenched his fists tightly, his aura dark and cold.
Rhys sighed again and continued, "I found two special drug components in Nora's blood."
Isaac's eyes narrowed, his face turning stone-cold.
Rhys continued, "One of the drugs causes significant brain damage. It's typically used by hypnotists. Once injected, it makes hypnosis incredibly effective, making the person believe their false memories without realizing anything's off."
Isaac's voice was tight. "Are you saying Nora didn't just lose her memory but was hypnotized?"
Rhys nodded. "But don't worry too much. The amount in her system is small, so the damage isn't severe. There's a good chance she'll regain her memory."
Isaac's face stayed grim.
Any drug that messed with the brain, no matter how small the dose, was serious. He wasn't a doctor, but he wasn't dumb either.
Rhys was probably trying to downplay the situation to keep him calm.
Suppressing his anger, Isaac asked, "What about the other drug?"
Rhys's expression grew more serious. "The other drug, if taken continuously for three months, will completely wreck a healthy stomach, leading to death. Most people wouldn't be able to pinpoint the cause, thinking it was stomach cancer. During the period of taking the drug, symptoms similar to stomach cancer will appear."
Isaac's fists clenched tighter, his aura growing more menacing. "How's Nora now? Is she in danger?"
Rhys said, "She hasn't taken much of the drug. The amount in her blood is very small. As long as she stops taking it, she won't be in danger. If she continues, the accumulated amount will eventually threaten her life. The hypnotic drug is a one-time thing and has mostly been absorbed by now. It won't continue to harm her as long as she doesn't get injected again. Luckily, we checked in time. A few more days and the drug would have been completely absorbed, making it impossible to detect. We wouldn't have known she was hypnotized to lose her memory."
Isaac didn't relax. His face grew darker, and his eyes filled with intense anger. "Is that poison common?"
Rhys shook his head. "No, it's very rare. That drug, which can cause stomach cancer, is hard to detect by ordinary doctors and can evade medical instruments. It's not common at all. I was able to detect it because I had encountered it before and knew what reactions it caused in the body. Are you suspecting Mortimer? Don't think about it. Mortimer doesn't have access to that kind of drug."
Isaac's gaze was icy. He did suspect Mortimer.
Rhys said, "Mortimer wants to have Nora. Hypnotizing her makes sense, but he has no reason to want her dead."
Isaac's aura grew even darker, and he said in a tense voice, "If it's not Mortimer, then who poisoned Nora? Who else wants her dead?"
