Chapter 354 Not Sure How Much Longer I Can Keep This Secret
Nora pressed Isaac's head into her chest and continued to comfort him gently, "Didn't you say you wanted me to hold you? I'm holding you now. You can tell me what's on your mind, or if you don't want to talk, that's okay too. I'll be here with you."
Isaac hugged Nora tightly and said hoarsely, "Nora, why are you so good to me? I don't deserve your kindness. I'm so useless, not worth it."
He felt so useless, unable to take care of even a child, unable to find a missing child.
He didn't deserve Nora's kindness.
Nora immediately retorted, "How are you useless? You're so amazing. Just go out and ask around, and you'll see how much people admire you."
Isaac said, "No, I'm useless. I've let you down."
Nora felt uneasy.
What had Isaac done to feel he had let her down?
He was so emotional; it couldn't be a small matter.
Nora asked softly, "Why do you feel you've let me down? Did you do something to hurt me?"
Isaac opened his mouth, "I..."
But as soon as he started, he couldn't continue.
He didn't dare to say it.
"I'm sorry, I'm a coward. I'm not only useless but also a coward."
His voice choked with deep self-blame.
Nora's heart tightened.
What had Isaac done to feel he had let her down so much that he had to apologize so humbly?
Nora asked urgently, "What exactly did you do to let me down? Did you cheat on me?"
She couldn't think of any other reason.
The thought of Isaac cheating made her heart ache like it was being pricked by needles.
If he really cheated, no matter how much he apologized, she wouldn't forgive him.
She couldn't accept an unfaithful man.
Isaac shook his head, "I didn't cheat. I would never cheat in this lifetime. I can't even get aroused by other women."
Nora breathed a sigh of relief.
Her voice softened a bit more, and she asked gently, "If it's not cheating, then what could be so serious?"
Isaac remained silent.
If Nora knew that Soren had been kidnapped by traffickers, she might prefer he had cheated.
He didn't dare to say it.
He hugged Nora tightly and didn't say another word.
Seeing that he really didn't want to talk, Nora didn't press him. She just held him, silently accompanying him.
After a long time, Isaac remained motionless.
Nora realized that Isaac had fallen asleep while holding her.
Nora carried Isaac to the bed, helped him take off his clothes and pants, then went to the bathroom to get a damp towel to wipe his face and body.
After tucking Isaac in, she called someone to clean up the wine bottles and used a deodorizing tool to remove the smell of alcohol from the room.
The air in the room became fresh again.
Nora let out a long breath, took a shower, and lay down on the bed.
The next day.
When Nora woke up, Isaac was no longer in the room.
After getting ready, she went downstairs and saw Magnus sitting obediently at the dining table, eating breakfast.
Nora looked around but didn't see Isaac.
Nora looked at Magnus and asked, "Magnus, did you see your daddy this morning?"
Magnus shook his head, then nodded, "I saw him leaving when I came downstairs. I called him, but he just looked back at me and then left."
Nora didn't ask further and sat down across from Magnus to have breakfast with him.
After breakfast, Nora took Magnus to kindergarten.
When they arrived at school, she asked the teacher if Soren had been brought to school.
The teacher told her they hadn't seen Soren.
Nora checked the time and saw there was still some time before class started. Maybe Edmund would bring Soren later.
Nora didn't think much of it, handed Magnus over to the teacher, and drove to her store.
In the evening, she went to the school to pick up the kids but found only Magnus at the school gate, with no sign of Soren.
Nora asked the teacher in confusion, "Where's Soren? Why don't I see her?"
The teacher said, "Soren didn't come to school today. You only brought Magnus this morning. Did you forget?"
Nora said, "I remember. Did no one else bring Soren to school after I left?"
The teacher shook her head, "No, if you don't believe me, you can check the surveillance."
Nora knew the teacher was unlikely to lie.
So, Edmund hadn't brought Soren to school.
Nora took Magnus to the car.
She didn't take Magnus to the Mortimer's house but brought him straight home.
This time, Magnus didn't make a fuss.
After getting home, Nora took out her phone and called Edmund.
She wanted to ask why Edmund hadn't brought Soren to school today and if something had happened.
She called several times before the call was finally answered.
But the signal on Edmund's end seemed poor, with static noises and his voice breaking up.
"Nora? Do you need something? The signal here is bad. Can you hear me?"
Nora said, "I can hear some, but your voice is breaking up, and I can't make out a lot of what you're saying."
"Grandpa, where are you? Why is the signal so bad?"
"Where's Soren? Is she with you?"
Edmund said, "Oh, Nora, what are you saying? I can't hear you at all. The signal here is too bad. Never mind, if you can't hear me, let's not talk. I'm taking Soren abroad for a trip. Don't worry, I'll hang up!"
Before Nora could respond, Edmund had already hung up.
Nora was surprised to hear that Edmund had taken Soren abroad, but knowing she was with Edmund, she felt relieved.
In the following days, Isaac left early and returned late.
They lived together, but Nora didn't see him at all.
Isaac came home when she was already asleep, and he left before she woke up.
Nora called Isaac to ask what he was busy with, but he only said there was some trouble at the company and didn't tell her what it was.
Nora didn't want to interfere with the Porter family's affairs, so she didn't ask further.
She tried to contact Edmund several times.
But each time, the signal on Edmund's end was poor, and they couldn't have a complete conversation.
She wanted Edmund to start a video call so she could see how Soren was doing, but the signal was too bad for a video call.
Nora wanted Edmund to bring Soren back soon. Soren needed to go to school and shouldn't be playing for too long.
But every time she said this, Edmund couldn't hear her.
Nora had no choice but to give up persuading him and prayed in her heart that Edmund would bring Soren back soon.
At the Porter Manor.
After hanging up the phone, Edmund asked the butler, Kieran, to turn off the signal jammer.
Then he sat on the sofa and let out a long sigh.
"It's been more than half a month, and there's still no news about Soren. I don't know how much longer we can keep this from Nora."
