Chapter 44 Nora's Demise

"Smack!"

Without warning, Kalista slapped her own face viciously.

In an instant, her cheek swelled, bearing the vivid imprint of a hand.

Nora squinted slightly.

So this was Kalista's plan—to frame her, pretending that Nora had hit her.

"Nora, do you think Edmund and Katie would still fancy you after causing a scene and getting physical at such an important event? Can you imagine what this will do to your social standing? And if word gets out that you made a scene at the charity gala, won't the internet just skewer you?"

Kalista's laughter was filled with self-satisfaction.

"Smack!"

She struck herself across the cheek again, making her appearance even more pitiful.

Nora glanced around.

The corridor was deserted, with tables on both sides loaded with food and drinks.

The table on the left was set with fruit, and a knife lay amongst the display.

She looked up.

There were only lights above without any security cameras.

"Stop looking, no one's here and there's no surveillance. Just one word from me that you hit me, and you'll never talk your way out of it," Kalista gloated, continuing to slap her face as she spoke.

Nora smirked sinisterly, "Good to know there's no surveillance."

Kalista frowned.

What did Nora mean by that?

Before Kalista could ponder the meaning behind Nora's words, she watched as Nora picked up the dagger from the table.

Kalista's face turned ashen with terror.

"What do you think you're doing? Don’t you know murder is against the law?" she stammered, stepping back in a panic.

However, Nora quickly grabbed her hand.

Then, with a swift motion, she turned the dagger so the blade faced her own chest and plunged it in without a moment's hesitation.

The dagger pierced skin and flesh, and blood gushed forth instantly.

Kalista's eyes bulged in shock as she screamed at the top of her lungs.

Has Nora lost her mind?

She had actually stabbed herself?!
Nora's smile curled at the corner of her mouth as she whispered in a near-inaudible voice, "Behave like an adult and refrain from engaging in childish games."

Her body pitched backward.

With a loud thud, she hit the ground.

Caught in the chaos, Kalista tumbled down with her, sprawling across Nora's unmoving figure.

"What's going on?"

"What happened?"

"Oh my God, there's been a murder!"

"Kalista killed Nora!"

By this time, guests from the banquet hall had rushed over upon hearing Kalista's cries.

They arrived at a shocking scene, where Kalista was lying on top of Nora, appearing to forcefully pin her down.

In her hand, she gripped the handle of a dagger.

The blade of the dagger was buried in Nora's body.

Nora's gown was now a crimson stain, the blood soaking through the fabric.

At first glance, it was a bona fide murder scene.

Stunned into a stupor, Kalista snapped back to reality amidst the murmurs of the onlookers.

She looked down.

Seeing herself on top of Nora, dagger in hand and planted in Nora's chest, she was consumed with rage and fear.

Nora had managed to slip the dagger into her hand while she was dazed!

There was no way to explain this!

"Kalista, I'm already divorced from my ex-husband. Why can't you just leave me alone?" Nora's weak voice broke the silence, her words filled with despair and sorrow.

Kalista's face turned pale as she frantically denied, "No, it wasn't me!"

She was cut short when an overpowering force kicked her aside.

Her body rolled several meters away, colliding with a table stocked with drinks.

Bottles shattered, drenching her from head to toe.

She was a complete mess, but she couldn't be bothered with her soaked and dirty appearance.

Desperately, she looked up to see Isaac—the one who had kicked her.

Isaac crouched next to Nora, his expression dark, an ominous aura cloaking him.

Everyone instinctively stepped back, not daring to come close.

He looked terrifying, like an avenging angel from hell itself.

With fear gripping her voice, Kalista began to stutter out an explanation.

Then Isaac abruptly lifted his head, his eyes cold as ice, piercingly fixing on her.
"If anything happens to her, I'm holding you responsible!"
"It wasn't me! I didn't hurt her; she stabbed herself!" Kalista was terrified, yet even more afraid of Isaac's hatred, urgently trying to defend herself.

But her explanation fell on deaf ears.
Isaac was the least convinced.
"When I walked in, you were holding the knife against her chest. You still have her blood on your hands, and you're telling me she did it to herself? Do you think I'm blind?"

Tears streamed down Kalista's face as she sobbed, "Isaac, please believe me, I didn't do it; she stabbed herself!"

"Wesley, take her away!" Isaac commanded, cutting Kalista off.

He then scooped up Nora and strode out.
"Isaac, I'm telling the truth; Nora framed me; I'm innocent! Nora, explain yourself; tell Isaac you did it to yourself!"
Kalista scrambled to her feet, limping after them, continuously shouting her explanations.

Yet very soon, she was restrained by Wesley and his people, unable to follow any further.
Spectators whispered and pointed at Kalista.
"She's pure evil; even when Nora and Isaac were still married, she went behind Nora's back, stealing her husband. Now that Nora has stepped aside, letting Isaac go, she just can't leave Nora alone; she even wants to kill her—How vicious!"

"She's caught red-handed and still insists on denying it. We aren't blind!"
"She's obviously retaliating because Isaac humiliated her at the party entrance by arriving with Nora."

"Poor Nora."
Kalista heard everyone's chatter, anger and hatred flashing in her eyes.
Nora, you're so cruel! You've even gone as far as hurting yourself to frame me. Now, everyone's got the wrong idea, even Isaac. Just you wait, Nora!

Isaac rushed Nora to the operating room at the hospital with utmost urgency.
He tried to follow her in, but the doctors barred his way.
Isaac stood outside the operating room, his demeanor dark and brooding, an aura of gloom enveloping him.
People passing by would stick close to the walls because they were too afraid to come near him.
