Chapter 271 Cooling Her Down
Nora's face turned beet red in an instant.
She shot Isaac a look that was a mix of embarrassment and annoyance. "What are you talking about? Stop with the nonsense!"
Isaac just raised an eyebrow. "I haven't even said anything yet, and you're already acting all defensive. Feeling self-conscious much?"
"I'm not self-conscious!" Nora snapped back immediately.
She quickly grabbed the clothes off the floor and dashed back to her room.
Even with the door shut, she could still hear Isaac's deep chuckle.
Her embarrassment only grew.
"I'm heading to my room. I'll leave the light on for you. Don't forget to turn it off," Isaac's deep voice came through the door.
Then she heard his footsteps fading away.
She waited a few minutes before grabbing a clean nightgown and sneaking out to the bathroom to wash up.
When she finally got back to her room and lay down, her face was still burning.
It took forever for her to fall asleep.
That night, her dreams were wild and suggestive.
And the star of those dreams? Isaac!
"Nora? What's wrong?" A deep, magnetic voice pulled her from her sleep.
She felt someone patting her face and shaking her gently.
Nora groggily opened her eyes.
The first thing she saw was a handsome face, way too close for comfort.
Her breath caught in her throat.
After a few seconds of shock, she screamed, "Ah, what are you doing in my room?"
She yanked the blanket up defensively and checked herself.
Thank goodness, she was fully dressed, and nothing weird had happened.
Isaac said, "Soren came to get me. She said you were sick and asked me to check on you."
Nora looked confused.
Just then, Soren's sweet, childlike voice piped up from the bedside. "Your face was all red, and you were moaning in your sleep. I called you, but you didn't answer. Last time Magnus had a fever, he was like that too."
Nora's mouth twitched, her face flushing with embarrassment.
"Do you have a thermometer? I'll check your temperature. If you have a fever, I'll take you to the hospital and have Wesley take Magnus and Soren to school," Isaac said, clearly worried.
Nora felt even more embarrassed. She knew she wasn't sick.
Her face was red because she'd been having erotic dreams all night.
She never thought it would manifest outside of sleep. She just hoped she hadn't made any weird noises, or she'd never be able to face the kids.
Seeing Isaac's worried expression, Nora took a deep breath, pushed down her embarrassment, and said, "I'm fine, really. Maybe the blanket was too thick and made me hot. I'll just get up and get some fresh air." She started to sit up.
"No, we need to check your temperature to be sure," Isaac insisted.
Nora couldn't argue with him, so she told him where the thermometer was, and he went to get it.
After checking, her temperature was normal.
Isaac looked relieved.
Nora shooed him out, telling him to take Magnus and Soren with him, while she headed to the bathroom to shower.
Once the bathroom door was closed, she ran her hands through her hair in frustration.
"Nora, seriously? Getting flustered over his kiss is one thing, but dreaming about him all night and blushing? You've been with him before! Stop overthinking. The more you dwell, the worse it gets." She shook her head and splashed her face with cold water to cool down.
When she finally emerged from her room, Isaac had already whipped up breakfast.
He even had a glass of water ready for her.
Nora eyed him suspiciously.
Isaac grinned. "To help you cool down."
Nora had just taken a sip when she heard his words and spat it out, spraying it all over his face.
"I don't need to cool down!" Nora snapped, her face turning red again.
Isaac chuckled, "Got it, my bad. I need to cool down, not you. If you don't want it, just leave it. I'll go change."
Isaac got up and left the table.
Nora glanced at the glass of water, then quietly picked it up and drank it all.
Seeing that Isaac wasn't around, Soren whispered, "Mommy, you said you wouldn't drink it..."
Nora calmly replied, "I just don't want to waste it."
Soren nodded thoughtfully, "Hmm, Mommy always teaches us not to waste."
When Isaac returned to the table and saw the empty glass, he smiled but didn't say a word.
Nora, however, kept her head down, avoiding eye contact with him out of embarrassment.
After breakfast, they took Magnus and Soren to school.
Then Isaac drove Nora to the store.
Neither of them noticed a car quietly tailing them.
After Isaac left, the car stayed put.
Inside the car, a handsome man with a gentle appearance but intense eyes stared intently at the art studio.
"Nora, why are you getting along so well with him? Have you decided to get back together with him? He hurt you so deeply, even driving you to attempt suicide. How can you forgive him? Why are you so harsh with me? I've always been so good to you. Why do you keep your distance from me?" Mortimer's eyes darkened, and his hands clenched tightly on his knees.
He had only caused her a little harm with the hypnosis.
For so many years, he had always been careful and protective of Nora, helping her.
But Nora had been cold to him ever since he sent Magnus and Soren away. It was so unfair to him.
He took a deep breath, suppressing his anger. Then he took one last look at the art studio and drove away without intending to meet her.
Nora had a bad impression of him now. Even if he met her, she wouldn't be kind. They would only end up parting on bad terms.
He needed to be patient.
Mortimer drove back to the Radcliffe family estate.
Elder saw Mortimer and looked surprised. "Mortimer? Why are you back? Wasn't King Cappadocia training you in Equinoxia?"
Just half a month ago, King Cappadocia had personally called him, saying he needed to find a new heir for the Radcliffe family business because Mortimer would be staying in Equinoxia for an important role.
For the past half month, he had been considering selecting a new heir.
As for Mortimer, he planned to leave him some shares so he could receive annual dividends.
He never expected Mortimer to return after just half a month.
Mortimer said gently, "Grandpa, I won't be leaving Aridonia for the foreseeable future."
Elder frowned. "What did King Cappadocia say?"
Mortimer replied, "I've already told him I won't inherit his throne and asked him to find another heir."
King Cappadocia naturally didn't agree.
But Mortimer had threatened to die, and seeing his determination, King Cappadocia, fearing for his life, could only let him return.
