Chapter 154 Nora, Let's Start Over.
Nora took a deep breath and said, "Isaac, it's me."There was no response from inside.
But after a few seconds, the study door opened from the inside.
A tall figure appeared, casting a shadow over her like a mountain.
Nora looked up and met Isaac's dark, brooding eyes."You told me just today never to come looking for you again. So why are you here now?" Isaac said sarcastically.
Nora glanced into the study and saw Magnus climbing down from the sofa.
Magnus, with his short legs, ran happily towards the door.
"Mom..." As Magnus ran, he opened his mouth to call her. Nora quickly ran over and covered his mouth before he could say it, muffling his voice.
Then she whispered in Magnus' ear, "Magnus, be good. Pretend you don't know me. Don't call me mommy, or we'll be separated, and you won't see me again."
She then released his mouth, picked him up, and put him back on the sofa.
"Nora, what are you doing? Do you know this child?" Isaac's deep voice came from behind.
Nora calmly explained, "I see him almost fall off the sofa just now and run in to catch him. Luckily, I am quick, and he doesn't get hurt. By the way, why is there a child in your house? Is he your illegitimate son?"
Isaac raised an eyebrow. "Are you trying to get information out of me?"
Nora looked puzzled.
Isaac snorted arrogantly and said, "Except for you, I've never been with another woman. There's no way I have an illegitimate child."
Nora didn't believe it at all.
He had been ambiguous with Kalista for so many years. And now, Kalista was pregnant. If he hadn't been with Kalista, did she conceive on her own?
Isaac continued, "This kid somehow got into my car and came back with me. I've already asked Wesley to call the police."
"I see." Nora nodded in sudden realization.
She stared seriously into Magnus' eyes for a moment and then said, "He looks familiar, like a customer's child. Are you Magnus? Do you remember me? Your mom brought you to my store to order a painting."
She then subtly gave Magnus a look.
Magnus looked confused.
But seeing Nora's eyes, he hesitated for a moment and then nodded, saying in her sweet and childlike voice, "Yes."
Nora said, "It really is you. Why are you so naughty, getting into someone else's car? Your mommy must be very worried. Let me contact her, and I'll take you to her later so she won't worry."
Nora took out her phone and casually dialed Mortimer's number.
When the call connected, Nora pretended to say, "Did you lose your son? He accidentally gets into a friend's car and goes home with them. I'll bring him back to you later. Okay, let me have Magnus say a word to you."
Nora looked at Magnus and said, "Magnus, tell your mommy you're safe so that she won't worry."
Magnus, still confused, obediently did as told when Nora put the phone to his ear. "Mommy, don't worry. I'm safe now."
Nora breathed a sigh of relief.
She then made a few more casual remarks and hung up. Afterward, she turned to Isaac and said, "You can have Wesley cancel the report. I'll take him away later."
"Alright," Isaac agreed without hesitation.
He immediately called Wesley to cancel the report. Then he asked Nora, "Why do you come to see me?"
Nora stood up, took out the check he had sent her that morning, and said, "Here's your check. I can't accept this money."
Isaac said, "It's from Grandpa Porter."
Nora replied, "I know, but I still can't take it. Grandpa Porter has been good enough for me. He doesn't need to compensate me."
Isaac said, "Then return it to him yourself. I only deliver the check. I'm not responsible for taking it back."
Nora sighed. "Alright, I'll go see Grandpa Porter another day and tell him myself."
Returning the check was just an excuse. As long as Isaac believed she came to return the check and not for the child, it was fine.
Nora was about to say goodbye.
But Isaac spoke first, "Come out with me. I have something to tell you."
He then walked out.
Nora whispered to Magnus, "Magnus, wait here for me. I'll be back soon."
Magnus nodded obediently.
Nora gently patted his head and then left the study. Nora followed Isaac into a room.
"What do you want to tell me?" Nora asked. Isaac turned to walk towards her.
His overwhelming presence made Nora instinctively step back.
Isaac reached out and pushed the door shut behind her. He leaned on the door, trapping Nora between his arms.
"What are you doing?" Nora tensed up.
Isaac looked at her with deep eyes, emotions flickering that she couldn't understand.
At such a close distance, Nora could feel his breath on her face.
Her heart raced, growing more anxious.
At that moment, the time seemed to stand still, passing very slowly.
After a long while, Isaac finally spoke.
His deep and magnetic voice slowly emerged, "Nora, let's start over."
"What?" Nora looked at him in shock.
'Do I just hallucinate? Do I hear Isaac say he wants to start over with me? It must be impossible. I must have heard wrong,' Nora thought.
Isaac hated her so much. How could he propose starting over?
Isaac was so proud. He could never accept a woman who had betrayed him.
"Let's start over," Isaac repeated, enunciating each word.
Nora's expression froze, and her heart skipped a beat. She looked at Isaac in shock and disbelief.
This time, Nora was sure she had heard.
Nora was stunned.
The air around them seemed to freeze.
Isaac didn't rush her and patiently waited for her response.
After nearly five minutes, Nora finally snapped out of her shock.
"Why?" Nora asked.
