Chapter 390: Nora's Misfortune, All Caused by Him

Isaac looked at Mortimer coldly and spoke in a menacing tone, "What happens between Nora and me is none of your business. You have no right to interfere!"

"You love to play the part, so keep playing."

"You better make sure you can keep up the act for a lifetime without Nora finding out."

"If one day Nora finds out everything you've done and sees who you really are, you'll be in way worse shape than I am now!"

Mortimer's smile froze for a moment but quickly returned to normal. "I've always been sincere with Nora, never pretended anything."

Isaac snorted coldly, not wanting to waste any more words with him.

Mortimer watched his back, "Isaac, I hope you seriously consider what I just said. Don't be selfish and disregard Nora's safety and happiness."

Isaac didn't look back, sneering, "Who is it that can't stand her happiness and is always scheming behind her back?"

"Mortimer, you are the last person who should be saying any of this. All of Nora's misfortunes trace back to you. Stop pretending to be the moral one in front of me!"

Mortimer's eyes grew cold, and he silently watched Isaac's back until he was completely out of sight.

Nora's misfortune wasn't caused by him.

It was all caused by Isaac.

Although he had done many things to sabotage their relationship, it was Isaac who had harmed Nora physically and mentally.

The real culprit was Isaac, not him.

Isaac was just shirking responsibility.

Mortimer closed his eyes, suppressing the slight guilt that arose in his heart.

Isaac didn't go to rest; he went to the door of Magnus's hospital room and looked at Magnus through the small window.

Rhys happened to come by for rounds and frowned when he saw Isaac. "Why are you here again? It's the middle of the night. Why aren't you resting?"

"Go away, don't make yourself sick. I don't have the energy to keep treating you all."

He pushed Isaac, trying to get him to go rest.

When Magnus had surgery, stayed up for thirty hours.

After Magnus was brought out, he stayed for another day.

Then he went to play with Soren for a day.

Isaac hadn't rested for three days. If this continued, he would collapse.

If something happened to Isaac, he wouldn't be able to explain it to the Porter family.

"Go on, get some rest. Staying here won't help. You need to rest to handle the upcoming matters better!" Rhys advised earnestly.

Isaac replied, "I'm not tired. I want to see him a bit longer."

Magnus was still in danger, and he was very worried. If he left, what if the next time he came, Magnus was already...

Isaac quickly stopped his wild thoughts, afraid that thinking about it would make it come true.

Rhys comforted him, "He's made it through two days. Although his condition hasn't improved significantly, it's been stable. It's unlikely anything will go wrong."

Isaac pressed his lips tightly, looking deeply at Magnus on the bed.

"Fine, go put on protective gear and come in with me," Rhys spoke helplessly.

Isaac's eyes lit up, and he immediately went to the sterile room to put on protective gear and walked into the ICU with Rhys.

Rhys began to perform a routine check on Magnus, while Isaac stood silently by, watching Magnus.

"The check is done. His condition is stable. If he remains stable for another day, we can schedule a second surgery."

"Alright, let's go out."

Isaac replied, "I want to stay with him a bit longer."

Rhys thought for a moment and nodded. "Okay, you're wearing protective gear, so you won't contaminate the air. You can stay a bit longer. I'll come get you in half an hour."

Isaac nodded.

After Rhys left, Isaac crouched by the bed, gently holding Magnus's small hand, and whispered, "Magnus, I'm so sorry. This is all my fault."

"You have to get better and come back to get your revenge."

"I'm waiting for you to heal up so you can take revenge."

He didn't know what to say, rambling on, his voice trembling and choked with emotion.

But no matter what he said, Magnus had no reaction.

Half an hour passed quickly.

Rhys knocked on the door, reminding him it was time to leave.

Isaac wanted to stay by Magnus's side.

But he knew the ICU needed to remain sterile. Even though he was wearing protective gear and a mask, staying too long could still pose a risk.

For Magnus's safety, he reluctantly released his grip on Magnus's hand and left the ICU.

Outside, Isaac took off his mask and sat on a chair by the door.

Rhys voiced, "Don't sit here. Go rest. Don't wear yourself out."

Isaac shook his head. "I'm afraid to close my eyes. When I do, I start thinking too much."

Rhys replied helplessly, "But you can't go without rest. If you can't sleep, should I give you a sedative?"

Isaac remained silent.

Rhys was on the verge of tears. "Don't make me beg you!"

Isaac still didn't speak.

Rhys continued, "Magnus will need surgery in a couple of days. If you keep pushing yourself now, what happens if you can’t be there when he really needs you?"

"Go ahead and exhaust yourself now, but don't say I didn’t warn you when it counts!"

Isaac's eyes darkened, finally persuaded.

Rhys went back to the room with Isaac and gave him a sedative to force him to rest.

The medication was strong. Within two minutes, Isaac was fast asleep.

Rhys, worried that Isaac hadn't rested enough in three days, gave him another dose.

Isaac slept for two days straight.

When he woke up, he felt much better, but he was weak from not eating for days.

He had someone bring him food, ate a little, and then went to the hospital.

At the hospital, he found that Magnus was already in surgery, with Mortimer and Nora waiting outside the operating room.

Seeing them standing together, Isaac's face darkened instantly.

He clenched his fists, struggling to suppress the anger rising in his heart.

Magnus was in surgery; he couldn't disrupt it.

Isaac took a deep breath, looked away from them, and silently waited for the surgery to end.

Nora was very anxious, her body trembling, her face pale.

Before Magnus went into surgery, Rhys had told her that spinal surgery was very risky, and Magnus could be in danger at any moment during the procedure. He had asked her to be mentally prepared.

Despite the risks, she had no choice but to let Rhys perform the surgery on Magnus.

Without the surgery, Magnus would definitely be paralyzed.

With the surgery, there was a chance he could recover.

Magnus was only three years old. If he were paralyzed, it would be a life sentence.

Plus, there was no way Magnus would ever accept living like that.
