Chapter 241 What's the Point of Doing This Now?

The folks on the cruise ship heard the ruckus and rushed over. They quickly surrounded Daxton, shielding him from the bullets.

Isaac fired three more shots, hitting the people in front of Daxton.

With twelve bullets spent, he was out of ammo. He could only watch as Daxton's men carried him onto the cruise ship.

The ship sailed away in a hurry.

Regret flashed in Isaac's eyes. It sucked that he couldn't take Daxton out.

He turned to Nora in his arms, holding her tight, his deep voice shaking. "Thank God I got to you in time." Losing her again would be unbearable. He held her like a precious treasure, her soft body easing the fear in his heart.

Nora felt a sharp pain in her chest and coughed up blood.

Isaac's whole body shook, and he quickly loosened his grip. In his excitement, he had forgotten she was still hurt. Seeing the blood at the corner of her mouth, his heart sank.

Her ribs must've shifted, causing her to cough up blood.

"I'm sorry, I got too excited and forgot your ribs haven't healed. Hold on, I'll get you to the hospital now!" Isaac carefully picked up Nora and ran to his car, suppressing his panic. He placed her in the back seat, letting her lie down, then jumped into the driver's seat and sped to the hospital.

Luckily, after the examination, the doctor said Nora wasn't in serious condition. Her ribs were slightly displaced but hadn't damaged any internal organs. After the doctor repositioned her ribs, Nora was wheeled into a ward.

Isaac sat by the bed, holding her hand guiltily. "I'm sorry, I promised to protect you, but I failed. When you recover, you can hit me all you want, and I won't complain."

Nora said calmly, "To me, you're just a stranger. I didn't take your promise seriously, so I won't be disappointed or blame you."

Isaac fell silent. He'd rather she blame him than hear her say such distancing words. He looked at Nora, unable to speak for a long time.

Nora broke the silence, "The guy who kidnapped me looks a bit like you." Even with amnesia, seeing someone who looked like Isaac was worth mentioning.

Isaac was quiet for a few seconds before saying in a deep voice, "He's my father."

Nora pretended to be surprised and asked, "Your father? Then why didn't you hesitate when you shot at him?"

Isaac lowered his eyelids, a gloomy aura surrounding him.

Nora sensed a deep sorrow coming from him.

"He killed my mother," Isaac said.

Nora was stunned.

Back in the day, whenever Daxton came up, Isaac would lose it, so she never dared to ask about his parents. She never expected his mom was killed by his dad. She opened her mouth and said, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to pry."

Isaac shook his head. "You did nothing wrong, no need to apologize. We're married; I should've told you about my past."

Nora stayed silent.

Isaac said, "It's late. Don't overthink it, get some rest. This time, I'll stay by your side and personally protect you. As long as I'm breathing, I won't let anyone take you away."

Nora didn't want Isaac in the room. Even though he had saved her, his words from that night were still fresh in her mind, constantly reminding her that everything he did was for revenge. She wouldn't fall for it again.

"I told you, I can't sleep with you in the room," she said. "If you want to keep watch, do it at the door, but don't stay in the room. Don't let me see you."

Isaac's body stiffened, and a look of hurt crossed his face. He looked at Nora, wanting to say something, but all he saw was coldness.

So, the words he wanted to say stayed unspoken. He slowly let go of her hand and stood up, looking dejected. "Then I'll stay at the door. Call me if you need anything."

Nora responded indifferently.

Isaac eventually turned and left the room.

It wasn't until the door closed that Nora relaxed, slowly closing her eyes to hide her dark expression.

This was how it should be between her and Isaac.

She took out her phone and held it in her hand, the screen lighting up and going dark repeatedly. After several times, she finally couldn't control her worry and dialed Soren's number.

At this hour, no one should be watching them.

However, it said that the phone was turned off.

Nora gripped her phone in disappointment.

Where were Magnus and Soren?

Unable to reach her children, she could only place her hope in Mortimer.

To be honest, she didn't trust Mortimer as much as she used to. But now, she had no other choice but to believe in him.

She kept reassuring herself that Mortimer had watched Magnus and Soren grow up. He had spent more time with the kids than she had. He had feelings for them and would surely help find them. Lost in thought, she fell asleep.

The next morning, she was awakened by the doctor who came to check on her.

After the doctor left, Isaac personally brought breakfast into the room.

There were dark circles under his eyes, making him look tired. It seemed he had indeed stayed up all night.

Nora lowered her eyelids, hiding the sarcasm in her eyes.

What was the point of him doing this now?
