Chapter 217 Nora Wakes Up

Allen's face lit up with a curious grin as he asked, "You sure about this? That drug's gonna mess up your brain. You cool with turning into a total idiot?"

Mortimer scowled, "Didn't you say it would just slow me down?"

He couldn't afford to become an idiot. If he did, he wouldn't be able to protect Nora.

"If you get too slow, you might as well be an idiot," Allen shot back.

Mortimer's expression darkened.

Allen continued, "Think it over, man. Even if the side effects are minimal, your brain's still gonna be sluggish. That's a big deal."

"You're the prince of Drakonia with a bright future. Why throw it all away for a girl?"

Slowing down his mind was like throwing his future in the trash.

Even though King Cappadocia thought highly of Mortimer, if he turned into an idiot, the king would definitely drop him.

Mortimer's value came from his smarts and talent. Without those, and being just the king's grandson, he'd lose his edge.

Drakonia might not be the strongest nation, but being its king was still a big deal.

Mortimer stared at Nora, silent for a long time.

Allen paused, then said, "Look, I'm all about feelings. Seeing how much you care, I'll give you a tip. There's a way to share her pain without losing your brains."

Mortimer looked at Allen, waiting for more.

Allen explained, "I know a guy who's a whiz with poisons. Rumor has it, he can use one that transfers someone's pain to another person. Of course, it's just a rumor. I haven't seen it myself."

Mortimer frowned.

Could there really be a poison that transfers pain? He'd seen it on TV, but never in real life.

But Isaac was poisoned by his own dad, Daxton, and that poison could control Isaac's life and death.

Maybe there were some mysterious tricks out there he didn't know about...

Mortimer said, "Hook me up with this guy."

Allen pulled out his phone, scrolled through his contacts, and dialed a number.

After a few tries, he couldn't get through.

Allen said, "He might be busy. Can't reach him now, but I'll give you his number. Try contacting him yourself. Tell him I sent you. I'll text him to explain. Whatever deal you make is on you."

Mortimer jotted down the number.

Allen glanced at Nora and asked, "Should I start hypnotizing her now?"

Mortimer took a deep breath and nodded, "Do it."

Allen said, "Alright, I need total silence for this. Everyone out, including you."

Mortimer frowned. He wanted to stay with Nora.

First, he was worried about her.

Second, he didn't fully trust Allen. This was their first time working together, and it was normal to be cautious though he was famous in this field.

"If you stay in here, you'll just mess me up. One slip-up and the hypnosis could go south. If you're cool with that, then stay," Allen said, cool as a cucumber.

Mortimer mulled it over and said, "I don't like leaving her alone with a stranger. I'll get a transparent partition set up. I'll watch from inside without bugging you."

Allen shrugged, "Whatever, man."

Mortimer got someone on it right away.

A few hours later, the partition was good to go.

Mortimer stepped inside. To keep him from causing any trouble, Allen locked the door.

Then, he walked over to the bed and injected Nora with some green serum.

Mortimer watched nervously from behind the partition, feeling all kinds of uneasy and silently apologizing to Nora.

No matter how many excuses he made or how helpless he felt, he had chosen this path and had wronged Nora.

Time dragged on.

After more than ten hours, until the next morning, Allen finally finished the hypnosis.

Nora lay back on the bed, looking like nothing had happened, just resting quietly.

Allen unlocked the partition door.

Mortimer rushed out, hurried to the bedside, and nervously checked on Nora.

He instinctively reached out to check her breathing.

Nora's face was even paler than before, making him worry.

Allen said with a grin, "Relax, she's alive. It's just hypnosis; it won't kill her."

Mortimer asked, "Did it work?"

Allen replied, "You were watching the whole time, right? It went smoothly, no hiccups."

Mortimer asked again, "How long until she wakes up?"

Allen glanced at his watch, "Within three hours."

Mortimer's heart pounded.

When Nora woke up, she'd only have eyes for him. The wish he'd had for years was finally about to come true.

Right now, his nerves were stronger than his excitement.

"Can we settle up now? I gotta get to my next client and don't have time to hang around," Allen said.

Mortimer pushed down his emotions and walked out of the room with Allen.

He handed Allen a check for ten billion dollars.

Allen, holding the massive check, beamed. "You're so generous, sir. This is the biggest payday I've ever had.

"Hope you have a great love life. If you need me again, just holler. Now, I'm out."

Allen left, humming a tune with the check in hand.

Alaric grumbled, "Mr. Porter, is it really worth spending so much on a married woman? Ms. Foster is not only divorced but also has kids with another guy. She doesn't deserve you, and ten billion dollars is way too much."

Mortimer shot Alaric a cold look, his eyes icy. "Say one more bad word about Nora, and I'll cut out your tongue!"

Alaric shrank back, too scared to even breathe loudly.

Mortimer turned back to the room, coldly. He wanted to be the first person Nora saw when she woke up!

Mortimer stayed in the room for two hours, and finally, Nora slowly opened her eyes.
