Chapter 275 Isaac Discovers Nora Secretly Taking Medicine
Nora and Isaac took Magnus and Soren to the family amusement park for a couple of days.
By Sunday evening, they finally brought the still-hyped Magnus and Soren back home.
Nora had been out and about for two days straight and was exhausted, so she hit the sack early after they got home.
"Mommy?" About half an hour after Nora lay down, Magnus opened his eyes and called out softly.
Nora was out cold and didn't respond at all.
Magnus poked her cheek with his little finger. Still nothing.
He lifted the blanket, carefully climbed out of bed, tiptoed to the door, and struggled to open it before heading to Isaac's room.
He didn't bother turning on the light. He knew the house layout like the back of his hand, so he made it to the room door without a hitch, even in the dark. He then reached out and knocked.
Isaac's deep voice came from inside. "Come in."
Magnus stood on his toes and carefully walked in.
The room was dark too. He felt his way to the bedside.
Isaac reached out and scooped him up. Then he was pulled onto the bed and into Isaac's arms.
The moment Isaac picked him up, he sensed something was off.
The shape, the weight.
This wasn't Nora!
Isaac's body stiffened.
Then he reached out and turned on the light.
He saw clearly who he had pulled onto the bed and into his arms.
Magnus looked at him innocently. "Daddy, what are you doing?"
Isaac's expression was uncertain.
After a few seconds, he calmed down and asked in a deep voice, "Why aren't you sleeping and coming to my room?"
He had thought it was Nora coming to find him. Luckily, he hadn't done anything inappropriate.
Magnus said innocently, "I have something talk to you."
Isaac sat up, placed Magnus beside him, and asked, "What is it?"
"Is Mommy sick?"
"Why do you ask that?"
Magnus blurted out, "I saw Mommy taking medicine, not just once. She always takes it secretly, not letting Soren and me see."
That's why he thought of turning to Isaac.
Isaac's eyes darkened.
"Do you know what medicine she's taking?" Isaac asked.
Magnus shook his head.
Isaac asked again, "Can you get her medicine? Sneak one pill for me, and I'll take it for testing."
Magnus sighed. "I can't get it. The cabinet where Mommy keeps the medicine is locked. I can't open it."
"Which cabinet does she keep the medicine in?"
"The bottom drawer of the bedside table on the left side of the room."
"Okay, I know. I'll find a way to check it out. You go back to sleep first." Isaac patted his head.
Magnus still looked worried.
Isaac looked at his eyes and felt a bit of heartache, his voice softened. "Your mommy will be fine, don't worry."
His steady voice seemed to have an invisible power, and Magnus really felt relieved.
Isaac personally took him back to his room.
The next day, after dropping Magnus and Soren off at kindergarten and Nora at the art studio, he headed back home.
Nora couldn't possibly carry the cabinet key with her all the time. The key had to be somewhere at home.
Isaac thought about Nora's habits.
Then, he walked over to the dressing table and easily found a key in a jewelry box.
He took the key and tried it, and sure enough, the drawer opened.
There wasn't much in the drawer. As soon as he opened it, he saw a white medicine bottle inside.
There was nothing written on the bottle, so he couldn't tell what kind of medicine it was.
He picked up the bottle, opened it, took out a white pill, and put it in a small bag.
Then he closed the drawer and put the key back where he found it.
Isaac left while calling Rhys, "Are you in the lab now? I'm coming to see you."
"I'm out right now, about to give a lecture to medical students. What's up?" Rhys replied.
"I have a pill with me. Can you check if there's anything wrong with it?" Isaac said.
"Just leave it there when you bring it over. I'll check it as soon as I get back," Rhys continued.
Isaac said firmly, "I can't wait that long. You need to go back now and check it as quickly as possible!"
Rhys said helplessly, "What kind of medicine is so urgent to check?"
Isaac responded, "I took it from Nora. She's been secretly taking it, and I suspect it's the kind you mentioned before that causes death by mimicking stomach cancer."
Rhys's tone instantly became serious. "Got it, I'll be back soon!"
When Isaac brought the medicine to the lab, Rhys had just arrived.
"How long will it take to get the results?" Isaac asked as he handed over the pill.
Rhys shrugged and said, "It depends on the complexity of the ingredients. If it's not complex, it could take about an hour. If it's very complex, it could take several hours or even days. You should go to work. No need to stay here. I'll call you as soon as I have the results."
Isaac thought for a moment and accepted Rhys's suggestion.
He needed to finish his work early so he could cook dinner for Nora.
As for Magnus and Soren, they were just taken care of along the way.
Isaac went to the office, but he was restless all day because of Nora's medicine.
At three in the afternoon, he finally received a call from Rhys.
As soon as he answered, he asked, "How is it? Did you find out?"
Rhys said, "Yes. It's the same medicine I told you before. Continuous use for three months will lead to death from stomach cancer."
Isaac's breath caught. He had thought Nora had stopped taking that medicine.
Unexpectedly, she had been secretly taking it all along.
Right under his nose, and he hadn't noticed!
Luckily, Magnus was observant and came to ask him.
If he had directly asked Nora, she would likely have brushed it off.
Thank goodness he was smart.
At this moment, he suddenly kind of liked him.
If it weren't for Magnus, Nora might really have died of stomach cancer!
Isaac took a deep breath, and asked in a deep voice, "If she hasn't taken it for three months continuously, will there be no major issues?"
Rhys replied, "That's not certain."
Isaac's heart tightened again.
