Chapter 424 Crying Bitterly in His Arms

Nora stared deeply at the phone number.

She looked at it for a good ten minutes before taking a deep breath and dialing.

Soon, the call was answered.

On the other end of the line, Mortimer's warm voice came through with a smile. "Nora? Is there something you need this late? Did something happen to Magnus?"

Nora replied, "Yeah, after you left, Isaac and I went to see Magnus. Magnus was very agitated and resistant, unable to calm down."

"I have no way to help him right now, so I was hoping you could come and stay with Magnus tomorrow?"

"Rhys said that if his emotions are unstable, it won't be good for his recovery."

"And when he gets agitated, he wants to move around, which could make his spinal injury worse."

Mortimer agreed, "I would love to stay with Magnus. I'm very worried about him and wish I could be by his side 24/7 to monitor his recovery."

"But you heard what Isaac said today. He won't let me go to the vacation lodge, let alone get close to Magnus."

"Even if I wanted to stay with Magnus, I couldn't get into the lodge to see him."

He sighed helplessly.

Nora uttered, "Don't worry about that. As long as you're willing to come, I'll handle Isaac."

Mortimer answered, "Alright, I'll come by tomorrow afternoon. I have to go to the office in the morning."

Nora nodded, "Okay, thank you. I'll be waiting for you."

With a few more words, Nora hung up the phone.

Nora sat by the lake for a long time.

She didn't move until dawn, staring blankly at the reflection of the moon on the water.

She didn't understand why Mortimer had changed.

Mortimer had always been her most trusted friend.

She saw Mortimer as a benefactor, a confidant.

But he had a different face behind her back, even hurting her child.

She found it hard to accept this fact.

"Nora, it's so late, what are you doing here?"

Isaac's cold voice, tinged with anger and a bit of breathlessness, came from a distance. It was clear he had hurried over.

Nora turned to look at him, a hint of surprise in her eyes, "Why are you here?"

Isaac quickly walked to her side, "The bodyguards said you've been here for five hours without moving. They were worried about you, but you ordered them not to disturb you. They didn't know what to do and were concerned about your safety, so they notified me."

He had come running as soon as he got the notification.

Nora was stunned, "Has it been five hours? Time flies."

Isaac asked, "Is something bothering you? Why are you sitting here alone in the middle of the night?"

"It's getting chilly. Let's go back."

He reached out and grabbed Nora's arm, feeling the coldness like ice.

Isaac frowned deeply, "Are you nuts? You're freezing and didn't even notice?"

He pulled her into his arms, rubbing her arms with his warm hands, trying to transfer his warmth to her.

Nora seemed too weak to struggle, leaning softly against him, letting him hold her. Isaac's face was fierce, but his hands gently rubbed her body.

Nora felt even more bitter inside, tears uncontrollably streaming down her face.

Isaac's heart tightened, and he clumsily wiped her tears, "Why are you crying? Did I hurt you? I wasn't even using force."

Nora's tears fell even harder, burying her face in his chest, quickly soaking his clothes.

Isaac was flustered by her crying, urgently asking, "What's wrong? What happened? Tell me, and I'll make it right for you!"

"If you're blaming me for Magnus's situation, you can hit me, or let me suffer the same injuries as Magnus did. I won't complain."

Nora bit her lip, sobbing silently, her shoulders trembling uncontrollably.

No matter how Isaac tried to comfort her, it was useless.

He could only hold Nora tightly.

Nora cried for a long time before her emotions slightly stabilized.

"Isaac."

"What?"

"How did you feel when you and Mortimer had a falling out?"

Isaac's face turned extremely grim.

After a long while, he gritted his teeth, "Nora, do you enjoy stabbing me in the heart?"

Nora choked up, "If you don't want to answer, forget it. Just pretend I didn't ask."

Isaac took a deep breath and replied in a muffled voice, "When I found out, both you and Mortimer had betrayed me. I wasn't sure if my feelings were directed at you, Mortimer, or both."

"At that time, I felt like the world was ending, and I didn't even want to live."

Mortimer was his best friend.

Nora was the woman he loved most.

But that day, when he was joyfully preparing to propose to Nora, he saw them in bed together.

In that moment, he wanted to destroy the world!

Even now, he still felt like he was drowning in despair and pain.

Nora bit her lip hard, her chest aching.

Isaac's situation was more complicated than hers.

She was just betrayed by a good friend, and it hurt this much. How much more painful must it have been for Isaac back then?

Nora felt both heartbroken by her friend's betrayal and pained for Isaac.

She felt even worse, crying uncontrollably.

"What is wrong with you?" Isaac asked helplessly.

Nora still didn't answer.

Isaac sighed helplessly, giving up on asking, just holding her.

Nora suddenly choked out, "In this world, can you trust anyone other than yourself?"

Not even family, friends, or lovers.

Isaac instinctively replied, "You can trust..."

His voice suddenly stopped.

He was currently deceiving and hiding things from Nora. He couldn't shamelessly ask her to trust him.

Although he had no intention of harming Nora, he had indeed deceived her.

He changed his words, "If it's a well-meaning lie, being deceived isn't necessarily a bad thing."

Nora let go of Isaac, gently pushing him away. She raised her hand and wiped her tears with her sleeve.

Her emotions seemed to settle, and she gave Isaac an apologetic nod, "I'm sorry, I lost my composure. I forgot we're divorced, and you have two fiancées now."

"I'll be more careful from now on."

Nora turned and walked back.

Isaac's eyes darkened, and he clenched his fists tightly, ultimately saying nothing, silently following her.

Nora's knees were stiff from sitting too long, causing her to limp as she walked.

Isaac picked her up by the waist.

Nora struggled in resistance, "Put me down, I can walk myself."

After remembering he had fiancées, she was very averse to any intimate contact with him.
