Chapter 207 Our Family

Nora took a deep breath and tried to chill out.

She suddenly got all serious and said to Mortimer, "Hey Mort, in a few days, I'm gonna leave the kids with you. I'm counting on you to take care of them from now on.

"I've already set up a trust fund for the kids. They'll get cash every month for their stuff, so no worries there.

"And I'll throw in some extra dough as a thank you for looking after them.

"I'll wire the money to you soon!"

Mortimer let out a sigh, "Nora, what are you talking about? I've told you before, I don't need any reward for this. You're just messing with our friendship by giving me money.

"Besides, I've watched Magnus and Soren grow up. I've spent more time with them than you have. I care about them a lot, and even if you didn't ask, I'd still take care of them."

Nora felt a wave of relief.

With Magnus and Soren sorted, she could finally relax a bit.

Mortimer asked, "Nora, be straight with me. What's going on? Why are you talking like you're saying your last goodbyes?"

Nora's eyes flickered, and she said, "I'm just scared that if something happens to me one day, there'll be no one to look after them."

Mortimer chuckled, "Don't overthink it. Nothing's gonna happen to you. We'll all be fine."

Nora gave a bitter smile and thought to herself, 'No, I won't be fine.'

Mortimer didn't stick around long before Elder called him away.

Nora was just about to get back to work.

But then, an uninvited guest showed up at the shop—Daxton!

Nora's alarm bells went off instantly. She wanted to stop him from coming in, but she couldn't.

Daxton strolled into the lounge like he owned the place.

Nora's heart was pounding like crazy.

The only thing she was thankful for was that Magnus and Soren were napping at that time.

But they'd already been asleep for over half an hour and could wake up any minute.

If Daxton found out about Magnus and Soren, she couldn't even imagine what would happen.

Nora was in a panic. Her top priority was to get Daxton out of there ASAP.

She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself, and looked coldly at Daxton. "What are you doing here again?"

Daxton had already made himself comfortable on the couch.

Noticing a kid's toy on the table and some more on the floor, he picked one up and started fiddling with it.

Cold sweat broke out on Nora's back.

'Is he getting suspicious?' she wondered.

Nora tried to stay calm and reminded him, "Be careful with that. It's something a customer left here. If they come back for it and it's broken, I don't want to get blamed!"

Daxton, hearing this, tossed the toy aside and said, "I thought you were getting close to Isaac lately because you wanted to have kids with him."

Nora's heart sank instantly. 'Daxton knows Isaac's been visiting me every day? Does he know about Magnus and Soren?'

Daxton sneered, "Guess you've forgotten my warning. I told you to cut ties with Isaac completely. Are you ignoring me?"

Nora said sternly, "No. I haven't been bothering Isaac; he's the one pestering me. You should go talk to him!"

Daxton sneered, "If you didn't give him hope, why would he keep pestering you?"

Nora was frustrated.

She hadn't given Isaac any hope and had rejected him many times, yet he still clung to her.

'How is that my fault?' she thought helplessly.

Daxton's voice was ice-cold, "This is your last warning. If you keep messing around with Isaac, don't blame me for what happens next."

Nora, totally fed up, snapped, "Anyway, I've done everything I can. If he won't back off, that's on him. If you want to kill him, go ahead. I won't save him again!"

Daxton replied, "No, this time I won't hurt Isaac. After all, he's my own flesh and blood. Hurting him would be like hurting myself."

Nora sneered.

She couldn't see any sign that he cared about Isaac.

Daxton smirked, "Don't worry, I won't kill you either. But I'll take out your family and friends one by one."

Nora's eyes narrowed, and she glared at him furiously.

Daxton stood up and walked towards the door, saying, "In three days, I'll start with Edmund. He's old and has done disgraceful things. He deserves to die."

"Are you even human? Edmund is your father, the one who gave you life!" Nora was livid.

'Daxton is truly inhumane!' she cursed inwardly.

But Daxton didn't respond and kept walking towards the door.

Nora glanced at the fruit knife on the table and bit her lip.

She lunged, the knife flashing in her hand. The blade sliced through the air, a deadly whisper.

Daxton spun, his body twisting with almost supernatural speed. The knife whisked past his shoulder, barely missing its mark. He was inches away from death.

He looked at Nora with disdain, "Can't you come up with something new? How many times have you tried to kill me? Have you ever succeeded? Can't you see your own limitations?"

Nora, frustrated, threw down the knife.

What a pity, she missed again.

If she could kill him, she could completely eliminate this threat to the Porters.

"Stop playing games and figure out how to make Isaac stop coming to you!"

With that, Daxton left.

That day, Nora was angry all day and couldn't calm down.

The next day, Nora, along with Olivia and Ava, brought Magnus and Soren to the shop early in the morning as usual.

For the past week, Isaac had been waiting at the door with a bouquet of roses every day.

But today, she didn't see Isaac.

"Mommy, why didn't Isaac come today?" Soren asked, puzzled.

Magnus added, "Does Isaac not want to play with us anymore?"

The two little ones looked disappointed.

Nora said, "Isaac has his own work. Maybe he's busy with that."

Though she said that, she instinctively looked around, seemingly searching for that familiar figure.

But, after looking around, she didn't see Isaac but saw Mortimer.

"Nora, good morning."

Mortimer, with a gentle smile, walked towards them.

Magnus and Soren's faces lit up with joy when they saw Mortimer. "Mortimer!"

They happily ran over and jumped into his arms.

Mortimer squatted down and hugged them both.

Out of the corner of his eye, he suddenly caught a half-hidden figure behind a billboard not far away, holding a bouquet of bright red roses.

Although he couldn't see the face, Mortimer was sure it was Isaac!

Mortimer's eyes flickered, and a glint of light flashed quickly.

"Mortimer, what brings you here?" Nora walked up to him.

Mortimer chuckled, "I missed you and the kids and couldn't help but come to see you.

"It's a nice day. How about you close the shop for the day, and we all go out and have some fun as a family?"

Nora frowned and mused, 'What nonsense is Mortimer talking about? Calling us a family is inappropriate, isn't it?'

But Soren's excited voice interrupted her thoughts, "Mommy, I want to go out to play. It's no fun staying inside all the time!"
