Chapter 418: Isaac Rushed Over Upon Receiving the News
Nora's expression was unpredictable.
Sophia also suspected that Magnus and Soren were her and Mortimer's children.
Isaac had thought the same back then.
Nora was silent for a moment, "I'll talk to you about the children's identity later. I don't want to discuss this topic right now."
Sophia was very understanding, "Okay, if you don't want to talk about it, I won't ask. When you're ready, you can tell me."
Nora smiled gratefully.
After a pause, Nora shifted the topic to Sophia, "By the way, I have some questions for you too."
"I was planning to wait until you felt better to ask, but since we're already on the topic, I might as well just dive in now."
Sophia didn't look surprised.
Nora must have seen Rylan when she went to the hospital that day and must have become suspicious about her relationship with Rylan.
Moreover, when she gave birth, the father's name on the birth certificate was Rylan, and the child was taken away by Rylan.
That day, Nora had asked Isaac for help, and Isaac must have found out about these things and told Nora.
Sophia knew Nora would definitely ask her.
She had already thought of what to say.
Sophia voiced, "I'm sorry, I lied to you back then. I told you I wanted a child to take care of me in old age, but that was a lie."
"The truth is, after I found out the father of the child was Rylan, he promised to give me a large sum of money if I gave birth to the child. So, I decided to have the baby."
After some consideration, Sophia decided to hide the fact that Rylan had threatened her.
If Nora knew she had been threatened, she would be very angry and might even seek revenge on Rylan for her.
She didn't want Nora to worry about her, nor did she want Nora to take any risks.
After all, everything was over now, and she and Rylan would have no further entanglements.
The past could be forgotten, and there was no need to pursue it.
Besides, pursuing it wouldn't do any good.
Nora looked at her in shock, "Were you really that short of money? You actually had a child for a stranger for money? Do you know how much having a child can harm your body?"
"No, you got pregnant while you were dating Cole."
"Back then, Cole deceived you while you were dating, secretly sold you out, and let a stranger humiliate you for seven years."
"The child you were carrying was from the man Cole made a deal with, right? That guy was Rylan?"
"You actually had that scumbag's kid just for money?"
In Nora's eyes, Rylan was essentially a rapist.
Although during the process, Sophia might never have resisted and might even have been proactive and enjoyed it.
But Sophia's reactions were based on the belief that the person she was with was her then-boyfriend Cole, whom she loved deeply.
However, Rylan and Cole had deceived Sophia through a monetary transaction, keeping her in an improper relationship with Rylan for seven years without her knowledge.
Cole's actions were despicable and shameless.
Rylan and Cole were cut from the same cloth, no better than each other.
If Sophia had kept the child out of attachment, that would be one thing.
But she had the child for money, the child of a rapist.
The more Nora thought about it, the angrier she got!
"If you needed money, you could have told me. I would have given you as much as I could. Why did you have to have a child for such a despicable person? You must have been in so much pain."
As Nora spoke, her voice choked with emotion.
Sophia's nose tingled, and a warmth filled her heart.
She thought Nora was angry because she believed Sophia had no self-respect or dignity.
But surprisingly,, Nora was actually feeling sorry for her.
Sophia suppressed the bitterness in her heart and forced a smile, "You don't need to feel sorry for me. I wasn't in much pain. The thought of getting money made me very happy, not painful at all."
"Besides, the child was already in my belly. Whether I kept it or not didn't make much difference to me."
Nora spoke angrily, "If you needed money, you could have told me. I don't lack money!"
Sophia asked, "He offered me a billion dollars. Do you have that much money?"
Nora was silent. She really didn't.
Her expression changed several times before she asked Sophia, "What do you need that much money for?"
Sophia replied, "It's not that I was desperate for money, but I wouldn't turn it down. If someone offers me a billion dollars, it's hard to refuse."
"Besides, I had already been violated, and I was pregnant. Having the child and getting a billion dollars was the best deal I could get. That money compensated for the humiliation I suffered over the past seven years."
Nora didn't know what to say for a moment.
The temptation of a billion dollars was indeed hard for anyone to refuse.
Even if a guy was offered a billion dollars to undergo a sex change and bear a child, a lot of them would probably agree.
Sophia patted Nora's hand and continued, "You really don't need to feel sorry for me. Deciding to have the child was a decision I put a lot of thought into."
"With a billion dollars, thinking about those seven years won't be as painful."
"If I didn't have that billion dollars, thinking about those seven years would only bring despair and anger from being deceived and humiliated. That would drive me crazy."
"But now it's different. When I think about those seven years, the first thing that comes to mind is the billion dollars, and I feel instantly better."
Nora felt that Sophia's reasoning was twisted, but she couldn't refute it.
"Are you really happy?" Nora looked at Sophia.
Sophia playfully winked at her and said with a big smile, "A billion dollars, how could I not be happy?"
"With that money, I don't have to work hard for the rest of my life. I can live as a rich person, and wake up laughing from a dream."
Nora sighed, "As long as you're happy. I was worried that having that man's child would cause you pain and that you wouldn't be able to get over it."
Sophia replied, "You don't need to worry about that. I've made my peace with it."
Nora asked again, "You went through the pain of childbirth, and the child was taken away. You might never see him again, and he won't know you're his mother. Won't you be sad? Won't you miss him?"
Taking a baby away from a mother right after birth—forcing them to be separated—was just so cruel.
She worried that Sophia might not be able to handle it, might become ill from longing, and develop postpartum depression.
Sophia spoke straightforwardly, "Don't worry, I have no feelings for that child. I won't be sad because he was taken away."
Nora looked at Sophia in shock.
Sophia smiled, "A mother's feelings for her child are largely influenced by her feelings for the child's father."
"But I have no feelings for Rylan, quite the opposite, I dislike him. So naturally, I can't like that child."
"I'm actually relieved he was taken away."
"If the child stayed with me, I would be more likely to develop postpartum depression."
"I can have the child for money, but I can't accept Rylan or the child being in my life, no matter how much money is involved."
Nora sighed, "As long as you can make peace with it. My main worry is how you're feeling. If you ever feel uncomfortable, you need to speak up. Don't keep it all inside."
Sophia smiled and nodded, "Got it. I won't make myself sick from holding it in."
On the other side, the assistant doctor contacted Rhys.
Rhys, upon learning that Magnus had woken up, immediately contacted Isaac.
Then, they both headed to the estate.
Upon arriving at the estate, Isaac and Rhys went straight to Magnus's room.
"Magnus."
Isaac called out excitedly as he pushed the door open.
The moment the door opened, he saw Mortimer sitting by the bed.
