Chapter 164 Proposing to Her
"Sophia!"
A familiar voice snapped her back to reality. She turned to see Nora jogging over.
Sophia panicked, quickly stuffing a business card into her pocket and forcing a smile. "Nora, you got here fast."
Nora, panting, stopped in front of her. "Weren't you going into surgery? Why are you still here? Is it done already?"
Sophia looked fine, not like someone who just had surgery. Even minor ones needed at least half an hour of observation.
Sophia's eyes flickered, avoiding Nora's gaze. "I decided not to go through with the abortion."
"Why?" Nora asked, puzzled.
Sophia bit her lip. "When I got on the operating table, I felt a strong attachment. The baby is innocent. No matter who the father is or what he did, the baby isn't at fault. I shouldn't project my hatred onto it. Besides, I'm all alone. I want to have the baby, at least to have a blood relative."
Nora said, "You still have family. You just need to reconcile with them."
Sophia gritted her teeth. "I haven't contacted them in seven years. There's no going back."
Nora frowned, feeling Sophia's decision was too hasty. If it were the child of someone Sophia loved, it would be different. But Sophia didn't even know who the father was.
"Nora, please don't try to persuade me. I've thought this through!" Sophia took Nora's hand. "Besides, I don't plan to date or get married. Having a child isn't a bad thing, right?"
Nora sighed. "If you want to keep it, then keep it. Just don't regret it later."
Sophia nodded with a smile that didn't reach her eyes. "I'm going back to the shop. Want to come?"
Nora shook her head. "I need to buy some things."
"Alright, be careful," Sophia said.
"You too," Nora replied.
They hailed two cabs and went their own ways. Once in the cab, Sophia couldn't hold back her tears. She hated the fetus inside her and didn't want to keep it. Its existence reminded her of the past seven years, where she was treated like a prostitute. This fetus was proof of her life and dignity being trampled on. And now, she didn't even have the right to abort it. She didn't even have control over her own body. Her dignity was still being trampled on, after all these years.
Sophia reached into her pocket and pulled out the crumpled business card. Her fingers trembled as she smoothed it out. The name on the card came into view—Rylan Reed! He was an entertainment mogul who had risen to prominence in the past decade.
Half the celebrities in the industry were under his company, DK Entertainment Inc. The biggest movies and TV shows of the past decade? All his.
Rylan could make or break anyone in the business. Rumor had it he had a special status beyond just being a businessman. A famous celeb once crossed him and ended up dead in an "accident." And that wasn't the only case. Those who offended Rylan either died in accidents, went mad, or were seen years later in secret brothels abroad. Even top stars who had crossed him suffered tragic ends.
If Rylan wanted to ruin her and her family, it would be easier than crushing an ant. She couldn't risk her family's lives. But why would someone like Rylan, who could have any woman, scheme against her with Cole? Why did he want her to have his child? Thinking all these, Sophia felt frustrated and powerless.
Meanwhile, Nora was at the mall, buying a new outfit for her date tonight. After shopping, she treated herself to a full-body spa and got her hair done.
Isaac was also prepping. He bought red roses and an engagement ring. Tonight, he planned to propose to Nora, wanting to marry her again, formally. He hired a stylist and tried on clothes, one by one, each fitting perfectly. But he felt something was missing.
"Mr. Porter, you look great. This outfit suits you perfectly; no need to change again!" Wesley advised. Isaac had been changing clothes for an hour. Wesley didn't get what the fuss was about. Men in love were incomprehensible.
Isaac checked himself in the mirror. "Do I look handsome in this? Will Nora like it?"
Wesley replied, "You always look handsome. Nora loves you for who you are. She'll like whatever you wear."
Isaac smiled. That was a good answer. "Alright, this one it is."
He took the ring and headed out. As he went downstairs, Kalista angrily approached him.
"Isaac, where are you going?" she asked.
Isaac replied coldly, "I don't need to report to you."
Kalista's face turned pale. She clenched her fists, trembling. "I heard you bought roses and set up a proposal scene. Are you planning to propose to Nora?"
Isaac had risked his life for Nora. His mind was full of her. Kalista didn't believe the proposal was for her. It had to be for Nora!
Isaac said coldly, "Since you guessed it, why ask?"
Kalista nearly choked with anger. With red-rimmed eyes, she said, "How can you propose to Nora? What about me? I'm still carrying your child! Grandma won't agree to you being with her, either!"
