Chapter 202 Deceiving Isaac, Encountering a Helper
Nora felt a wave of anxiety hit her like a ton of bricks, and cold sweat started trickling down her back.
Just as she was scrambling for an excuse to ditch Isaac, Olivia suddenly grinned and said, "Sir, we just got back from Drakonia. These two are our lady's kids. She got hitched abroad ten years ago and is now going through a messy divorce. To keep her hubby from snatching the kids, she sent them here to lay low."
Nora jumped in, "Yeah, their mom's my client and also my buddy, so I agreed to help her out.
"Oh, and fun fact, we share the same last name, Foster."
As Nora spoke, she kept an eye on Isaac's face.
Seeing his calm expression, like he didn't suspect a thing, she quietly let out a sigh of relief and shot Olivia a grateful look.
Olivia was a real lifesaver.
When she reached out to Olivia and Ava, she only mentioned that Magnus and Soren had grown up abroad and were new to everything here, needing some extra attention.
Unexpectedly, Olivia remembered every word and quickly came up with a perfect cover story, noticing that she wanted to keep the kids' identities under wraps.
'Money well spent!' Nora thought.
"So, what are their names?" Isaac's deep eyes darted between the two kids in front of him.
Isaac found it weird that he felt a strange sense of familiarity with these totally unfamiliar kids.
He hadn't even seen their faces, just their big round eyes, and already felt a weird fondness for them.
He couldn't help but think, 'How odd.'
"My name is Soren!" Soren piped up first.
The sweet voice stirred something in Isaac's heart.
Magnus also spoke, "My name is Magnus!"
Isaac said, "I'm Isaac Porter. You can call me Isaac."
Soren blinked curiously and said in surprise, "You have the same last name as our daddy."
"What's your dad's name?" Isaac asked again.
Magnus and Soren both lowered their heads, their fair little faces turning red with embarrassment.
"What's wrong? Can't you tell me your dad's name?" Isaac asked.
Magnus's face turned even redder, and he whispered, "Our daddy's name is not nice."
Isaac raised an eyebrow. "A name's just a name. Doesn't matter if it's nice or not. Just tell me, I won't laugh."
Magnus and Soren's faces turned even redder.
After a long hesitation, Soren finally whispered, "Our daddy's name is Bubba Porter."
Isaac couldn't help but laugh out loud and thought, 'What a casual name, even the kids are embarrassed.'
Hearing his laughter, Magnus and Soren immediately glared at him angrily.
Isaac cleared his throat to cover his laughter. "I didn't mean that; I just choked."
Soren turned away, angry.
Magnus also pouted and fiddled with his fingers.
Isaac said, "Hey, I'm sorry for laughing at your dad's name. What do I gotta do to make it up to you?"
Magnus and Soren started thinking hard.
After a moment, Soren said, "Alright, you gotta stay and play with us. Whatever we say, you gotta do it!"
Isaac nodded without a second thought, "Deal."
Soren grinned, "Turn around, I wanna ride a horse!"
Isaac squatted down and turned his back to Soren.
Soren clambered up onto his back, using both hands and feet.
Since Isaac was so tall, Soren struggled like he was scaling a mountain.
During the climb, Soren's mask bumped into Isaac's back.
Isaac reached out to steady Soren and then turned to look at him.
"Take off your mask, or it may hurt your face."
As Isaac spoke, he reached out to remove Soren's mask.
"Don't take it off!" Nora shouted anxiously, rushing over in a flash and pressing the mask back on Soren's face.
Isaac's hand froze mid-air.
He frowned at Nora, confused. "Why are you freaking out? I was just gonna take off his mask, not his face."
Nora's heart was pounding.
Isaac narrowed his eyes, suspicious. "Nora, you're acting way too jumpy. Are you scared of me seeing their faces?"
Sweat dotted Nora's forehead, and she was panicking.
"Why are you so scared of me seeing their faces? Is there some big secret?" Isaac's eyes turned sharp, and his voice got colder.
Nora was flustered and didn't know what to say.
At that moment, Magnus piped up cutely, "Isaac, you can't be mean to Nora. Our mommy told us to always wear masks and not show our faces, or bad people will take us away, and we won't be able to be with mommy!"
Isaac paused.
He instinctively thought the "bad person" they mentioned was the guy divorcing their mom.
Isaac pondered, 'Makes sense their mom would want to keep them hidden. Smart move, having them wear masks. Plus, they're so young, they probably wouldn't lie.'
Even if kids lied, they got nervous, and it was easy to tell.
But Magnus looked serious, no sign of lying.
Isaac immediately dismissed his doubts.
He glanced at Nora. "You just need to explain properly. Why do you look so guilty?"
"I don't!" Nora denied.
Isaac said, "You've been looking guilty these past few days. Whenever I ask you something, you get all flustered. It's making me think you're hiding something."
Nora bit her lip and said, "I'm just trying to keep their presence here a secret. If their dad finds them, I'm toast! How am I supposed to explain this to my friend!"
Isaac found this explanation reasonable and didn't push further.
He was about to continue playing with Magnus and Soren.
But suddenly, he stopped abruptly, his brows furrowing again.
