Chapter 234 All the Contacts Are Isaac's Friends
Nora scrolled through her contacts, but Mortimer's number was nowhere to be found. "What the heck? Why don't I have Mortimer's number saved?"
Little did she know, Isaac had deleted and blocked Mortimer's number during one of their past fights.
She used to have Mortimer's number memorized, but not anymore.
She bit her lip and stepped out of the room.
"Need anything, Mrs. Porter?" the maid at the door asked politely.
"Don't call me Mrs. Porter! I'm not Mrs. Porter!" Nora snapped.
The maid just smiled.
Nora took a deep breath and asked quietly, "Where's Isaac?"
"Mr. Porter is in the study. Do you want to see him?" the maid replied respectfully.
"Yeah, take me to the study," Nora said.
The maid gestured for her to follow. "This way, please."
Nora followed the maid down the hall.
They stopped at a door, and the maid knocked. "Mr. Porter, Mrs. Porter is here to see you."
There was a brief pause before Isaac's deep voice came through. "Come in."
The maid opened the door, and Nora walked in. The maid gently closed the door behind her.
The curtains in the study were drawn, and only a wall lamp was on, casting a dim light.
Isaac was sitting on the sofa, having just put his phone down.
"My eyes can't handle bright light, so I didn't turn on the main light," he explained.
Nora walked up to him. "Do you have Mortimer's phone number?"
Isaac's face darkened. "You want to go back to Mortimer that badly?"
"I need to ask him something," Nora said.
Isaac, holding back his anger, replied, "I don't have his number. I cut ties with him years ago." Even if he did, he wouldn't give it to her! He wouldn't let Nora contact Mortimer again!
Nora frowned. "Does Rhys have it? Can you ask Rhys for me?"
"He doesn't have it either. Anyone close to me has deleted his contact info!" Isaac snapped.
"Then give me back the phone I brought from Drakonia. It has his number," Nora insisted.
Isaac shouted angrily, "Nora, I'm telling you, don't think about contacting Mortimer to save you. I won't let you leave! Even if you contact him, he can't save you. He knows I took you. If he wanted to find you, he could do it without you contacting him. But he hasn't come for you, which means he doesn't want to!"
Nora asked, "If that's the case, what are you afraid of then?"
Isaac was silent.
Nora pleaded, "I'm begging you, give me my phone back. I really need to contact him. I just have a few questions for him, not to go back to him!"
Isaac asked, "What do you need to ask him? Whatever he can help you with, I can help you with too. Just tell me, and I'll do it."
Nora had no intention of telling Isaac. Those two children weren't Isaac's.
Given his status, if Isaac knew about the kids, he definitely wouldn't tolerate them.
Nora wanted to ask but didn't dare. Just thinking about it made her feel a wave of fear.
She swore to herself that she had to keep the kids a secret. Isaac could never find out she had children. "I don't need your help," she said, refusing Isaac's offer.
Isaac just stared at her silently.
Nora felt a bit uncomfortable under his gaze. But she had to contact Mortimer and find the kids. She couldn't just leave. She had to make it work.
"Can I go outside for a walk?" she asked calmly.
Isaac squinted. "Are you planning to escape?"
"No, I just want to see the place where I used to live," Nora denied.
Isaac looked at her deeply without saying a word.
"You can't keep me locked up forever, can you? If you really plan to imprison me for life, what's the point of living? I might as well die!" Nora said.
Isaac seemed to be thinking. After a moment, he said, "When my eyes recover in a few days, I'll take you out. Your body hasn't fully recovered either. You should rest first."
"I'm fine. I can go out for a walk!" Nora insisted.
But Isaac wouldn't budge.
Nora returned to her room angrily. She grabbed her phone and looked through her contacts.
She gritted her teeth and decided to send a mass message to everyone: [Do you have Mortimer's phone number? If you do, please send it to me. Thank you very much.]
Shortly after sending the message, replies started coming in.
Harold: [Nora, are you crazy? You're asking me for Mortimer's number? I'm friends with Isaac. Do you think I'd give it to you?]
Nigel: [Are you out of your mind? Asking me for Mortimer's contact number? Do you think I'd help you cheat on Isaac?]
Nora looked at these replies in silence.
Why were almost all the contacts in her phone people who knew Isaac? And they were all his friends? Half of them claimed to be her clients. Some knew of Mortimer but couldn't provide his number.
Just then, Harold, who had replied first, called her.
Nora answered.
Before she could speak, Harold's puzzled voice came through the phone, "Nora? Is it really you? Or is this a stolen phone?"
Nora was silent for a few seconds before saying, "It's really me."
"Holy crap!" There was a clattering sound on the other end. It seemed Harold had dropped his phone and fallen while picking it up.
Then Harold's trembling voice came through. "Is it really you, Nora? You're alive? I thought you were dead! How are you still alive? What's going on? Where are you now? Does Isaac know you're alive?" The news that Nora was alive was too shocking for him!
"It's really me. I don't know exactly what happened. I don't remember a lot of things. I'm at Isaac's house now. I've answered your questions. Now it's your turn to answer mine. Do you have Mortimer's phone number?" Nora said.
