Chapter 281 Let Him Come Home

Nora remained silent.

Even if she had misunderstood Mortimer about the kids being sold to the village, there were still serious issues.

Mortimer had deceived her during hypnosis, claiming they were a couple and even attempting to marry her while she was vulnerable.

These actions were not mere misunderstandings.

Moreover, during her amnesia, she inexplicably had memories of being in love with Mortimer.

Maybe that also had something to do with him.

Because of Mortimer's kindness to her, she could choose not to hold him accountable.

But she ultimately couldn't interact with him as she did before.

Even if they could still be friends, it would only be as ordinary friends, not the heart-to-heart kind of friends they used to be.

So she didn't want to agree to Magnus's request.

"Mommy, Soren and I have been living with uncle Mortimer since we can remember. He has always taken care of us like a father. I really like him." Magnus's voice brought Nora back to her thoughts.

She softly said, "Let's go to sleep first."

Magnus didn't respond.

Just when Nora thought Magnus had obediently gone to sleep, she suddenly heard his suppressed sobs.

Nora panicked and reached out to touch Magnus's cheek, immediately feeling the wetness. "Magnus, why are you crying? Don't cry, please, Mommy is here."

She hurriedly hugged Magnus tightly, comforting him with both anxiety and gentleness.

Magnus only sobbed quietly, his body trembling slightly.

But Nora knew why he was crying.

She sighed helplessly, "Got it, don't cry. I'll contact him tomorrow, okay?"

Hearing this, Magnus's crying subsided a bit, but his body still shook with sobs. "I miss uncle Mortimer now, Mommy. Can you call him now, please?"

Nora said, "It's very late now.."

Magnus said, "It's not late. It's not even eleven yet."

Nora pressed her lips together, feeling very resistant.

She could clearly feel Magnus's mood sinking further.

Her heart ached, and she could only compromise. "Fine, I'll go out and call Mortimer now."

Magnus clung tightly to her clothes. "I'll go out with you. I want to hear uncle Mortimer's voice."

Nora nodded helplessly. "Okay."

She carried Magnus out of bed and carefully walked out of the room.

Soren was sleeping soundly.

Nora closed the door, took out her phone, but stared at the screen in a daze, unable to dial the number for a long time.

She was still very resistant to contacting Mortimer.

"Mommy?" Magnus sat beside her, clutching her clothes, looking up at her with tearful eyes.

Nora came back to her senses, and rubbed his head. "Don't worry, I'll call now."

She took a deep breath, finally found Mortimer's number, and pressed the call button.

The phone rang twice before it was picked up.

"Nora? Is that you?" On the other end, Mortimer's voice trembling slightly.

Nora pressed her lips together, "It's me."

Mortimer continued, "Nora, have you finally forgiven me? I've been waiting for you to calm down."

"I'm sorry, I was confused before and did something to make you angry. I promise, I will never do the same thing again."

Nora listened calmly to Mortimer's excited voice, feeling no waves in her heart.

After Mortimer finished speaking, she slowly said, "Sorry, I'm contacting you so late because Magnus misses you and wants to talk to you."

She didn't respond to a single word of his long speech.

Mortimer paused for a moment, then a self-deprecating laugh came through the phone.

"You don't need to apologize. You can contact me anytime. I miss Magnus and Soren too. I'm happy that you let them contact me."

This meant that Nora no longer doubted him.

At this moment, Magnus spoke, "Uncle Mortimer, I miss you so much. Can you come see me? I really want to see you."

Before Mortimer could answer, Nora said in a deep voice, "Mortimer is abroad now. He can't come to see you."

Mortimer chuckled, "Nora, I'm in the Aridonia now, not far from you. If you don't mind, I can come over now to see Magnus."

Nora's heart skipped a beat. She didn't want Mortimer to come over.

Even without any grudges, it was inappropriate for a man to come to the house late in the night.

Just as she was about to refuse, Magnus spoke, "Mommy, since uncle Mortimer is not far from us, can you let him come over? I miss him so much."

Nora pressed her lips tightly and didn't answer.

Magnus kept looking at her.

Nora softly said, "It's very late now, it's not convenient."

Tears instantly welled up in Magnus's eyes, falling in large drops.

Nora ultimately compromised for Magnus. "Well, please come over and let Magnus see you."

Mortimer chuckled, "Magnus and Soren were raised by me. I'm glad to see them."

Nora didn't say anything.

Mortimer said, "See you then. I'll be there soon."

After hanging up, Nora and Magnus waited for Mortimer in the living room.

She originally wanted to hold Magnus, but for some reason, Magnus seemed to reject her embrace today.

Nora didn't think much of it, just thought he was sulking because she didn't come back last night.

In less than half an hour, there was a knock on the door.

"Nora, I'm here. Can you open the door?" A voice came through.

Nora got up to open the door.

Mortimer's tall figure loomed over her. He smiled like a refined gentleman. "Hi Nora, long time no see."

Nora forced a smile. "Come in."

Mortimer followed her in.

Magnus ran to Mortimer, hugging his leg. "Uncle Mortimer, I missed you so much."

Mortimer squatted down and picked him up. "I missed you too!"

"Can you promise not to leave us again?" Magnus asked.

Mortimer chuckled, "Got it, as long as you want me to stay, I'll always be with you and never leave again."

Magnus smiled and turned to Nora. "Mommy, uncle Mortimer said he wants to stay with us. Can you let him stay?"
