Chapter 279 Magnus Becomes Very Strange
Nora took a deep breath, composed herself, and called Wesley.
"Mrs. Porter? Is there something you need this early?" Wesley's voice was still groggy.
Nora said, "Isaac was in a car accident last night. He was in surgery all night and is now out of danger, but he's still in the ICU."
"He won't be able to come to the office for a while, so you'll need to handle things there. And don't let the news get out, especially not to Edmund."
Wesley was shocked and immediately wide awake. "Mr. Porter is injured? Which hospital? I'll be there right away!"
Nora initially wanted to tell him not to come, but she ended up giving him the address.
Wesley arrived at the hospital within half an hour.
He leaned against the small window of the ICU, his eyes red as he looked at Isaac.
"Mr. Porter has such bad luck. He barely had a few good days, and now he's back in the hospital."
Nora said, "He was injured in a car accident. When he was found, there was no sign of the vehicle that hit him. It was likely a hit-and-run. The police are still checking it. You need to send someone to keep an eye on it and make sure the person who hit Isaac is caught!" Her eyes were cold, and her anger was rising.
If it weren't for a passerby walking their dog who found Isaac, he might not have been discovered until the next morning, which means that he would have been dead.
The hit-and-run driver was unforgivable!
Wesley, equally furious, said, "Got it, I'll keep an eye on it. When we catch that hit-and-run driver, we won't let him off easily!"
He left quickly, but before he did, he arranged for dozens of bodyguards to guard the ward to protect Isaac.
Nora originally wanted to stay at the hospital to watch over Isaac. She wanted to wait until he woke up.
But just then, she received a call from Soren.
"Mommy, where did you go? Daddy is gone too. Where are you?" Soren's voice was tearful.
Nora's heart tightened. She had been so worried about Isaac that she had completely forgotten about the kids!
Nora quickly said, "We had an emergency and had to go out. I'll be back soon. You and Magnus stay at home and don't go out!"
Soren cried, "Okay, Mommy."
After hanging up, Nora walked to the window to look into the ward one last time, then reluctantly left the hospital.
Isaac had bodyguards watching over him, so there shouldn't be any problems.
But Magnus and Soren were alone at home, which could be dangerous.
She had to go back and take them to daycare.
When she got home, Magnus and Soren had already washed up and dressed themselves. They were wearing masks and playing games in the living room.
Soren was holding a Barbie doll, dressing it up.
Magnus was assembling a toy gun.
Nora paused, her gaze lingering on Magnus for a few seconds.
Edmund had bought many toy guns, as well as toy bows and crossbows, but Magnus hadn't been very interested in them before. He preferred building blocks, puzzles, and other educational toys.
Why was he suddenly playing with a toy gun now?
And he was very skilled at it, assembling it with ease.
She wondered if it was her imagination, but she felt that Magnus's aura was different from before.
"Mommy, you're finally back. I missed you so much!" As soon as Soren saw Nora, she dropped the Barbie doll and ran to her.
Nora immediately squatted down, reached out to catch Soren, and hugged her.
"I missed you too," She said, gently patting Soren's back.
Soren, feeling wronged, cried softly in Nora's arms. And Nora held her and comforted her for a while.
After calming her down, she walked over to Magnus.
Magnus had stopped and was looking at her with his big, round eyes. His expression was calm.
Just like before.
But there was a hint of something strange.
After staying up all night with anxiety, Nora was too exhausted to notice anything unusual.
She picked up Magnus and apologized, "I'm sorry, Magnus. Mommy had an emergency last night and couldn't come back. I didn't mean to abandon you. If I ever have to leave again, I'll try to let you know. Please don't be mad at me, okay?"
In the warm embrace, Magnus's body instinctively stiffened for a moment but quickly returned to normal. He responded softly, "Okay."
Nora's heart ached.
Magnus was sensitive and always felt that she was going to abandon them.
Last night, without any notice, she didn't come home, and Magnus must have thought she was abandoning them again, making him even more withdrawn.
"Mommy, why didn't Daddy come back with you? Where did he go?" Soren's voice came, and Nora put Magnus down.
"He had important work to do and had to go on a business trip. He'll be back in a while," Nora responded.
Soren's voice was filled with disappointment. "Got it, does that mean we won't get to eat Daddy's cooking? Does that mean he won't be able to take us to daycare every day?"
Nora nodded gently and ruffled her hair. "He'll be back after a while. Don't be sad."
Soren said dejectedly, "All my classmates are so jealous that Magnus and I have a beautiful mommy and a handsome daddy. I like it when Mommy and Daddy are together."
Nora didn't know how to respond.
Just then, Magnus's voice came from the other side. "He's not our real daddy, Soren. Don't take it seriously."
Soren pouted. "I don't mind having him as my stepdad!"
Magnus wanted to say something more but seemed to think better of it and just pursed his lips.
"Magnus, you're acting strange today," Soren suddenly said, frowning.
Magnus looked at her but said nothing.
Nora asked with a smile, "What's strange about Magnus?"
Soren said, feeling wronged, "When I woke up this morning and didn't see Mommy, I cried because I was scared, but Magnus didn't hug me or comfort me. When I tried to hug Magnus, he pushed me away."
Nora looked at Magnus in surprise. She also felt that something was different about him.
