Chapter 277 Afraid to Face Him

Isaac held her hand, his big, slender fingers wrapping around hers.

"That kind of medicine is super rare. I had someone check it out. Only Daxton bought it here in Horizonia. He probably bribed the doctor to pass off poison as life-saving medicine and sell it to you."

Nora shivered.

Daxton, it was him!

Honestly, she wasn't shocked that Daxton wanted to hurt her.

She just didn't expect that he'd go as far as bribing a doctor to give her fake meds, trying to harm her without anyone knowing!

He was truly sneaky!

"I'm sorry, it's my fault for not keeping things in check at home, which led to you getting framed." Isaac's eyes were full of guilt.

Nora shook her head.

It wasn't his fault.

Daxton was the one who did the dirty work.

He was a monster with no limits, even hurting his own son.

"Let's get out of the car and get you checked out first." Isaac got out first, walked to the passenger side, and opened the door for her.

He held Nora's hand and led her to Rhys.

Rhys took her for a bunch of tests.

Finally, they drew some blood for further examination.

Nora then left the hospital with Isaac.

As they walked out, she realized it was already dark.

She felt a wave of panic. "It's getting late, the kindergarten let out ages ago. Magnus and Soren must think I've abandoned them again without seeing me."

Isaac squeezed her hand. "Don't worry, I asked Wesley to pick them up and take them home."

Nora felt relieved.

When they got home, Magnus and Soren were already there.

Wesley was sitting awkwardly in the living room, looking uncomfortable as he kept Magnus and Soren company.

He probably wasn't used to being around kids.

As soon as he saw Nora and Isaac return, he stood up as if a weight had been lifted off his shoulders.

"Mr. Porter, Mrs. Porter, now that you're back, I've got to go."

Nora said, "Thanks for picking up the kids. Want to stay for dinner?"

Wesley quickly shook his head. "No, thanks, I have things to do, enjoy your dinner."

He left quickly, like he was afraid they'd force him to stay for dinner.

Nora looked at Magnus and Soren, smiling. "What did you do to Wesley? Why is he so scared of you?"

Soren tilted her head. "I don't know. Magnus and I were very polite to Wesley, weren't we, Magnus?"

Magnus glanced at Soren. "You wiped your snot on Wesley's mouth."

Soren blushed and covered her face with her hands.

Nora's mouth twitched, suddenly feeling a bit sorry for Wesley.

She'd make it up to him next time...

Isaac went to the kitchen to cook.

After dinner, Rhys called Issac to let him know about the test results.

Isaac's face turned stern.

Seeing his expression, Nora's heart tightened.

She had been healthy, just a common stomach issue. If she had stomach cancer, she would die with regrets.

After Isaac put down the phone, she immediately asked nervously, "How is it? What did Rhys say?"

Isaac patted her head and pulled her into a tight hug.

Nora's heart skipped a beat. She thought, 'Why is he reacting like this? Am I beyond saving? Is he grieving?'

Nora's mind went blank, and she felt like her soul had left her body. She let him hold her, forgetting to push him away.

"Fortunately," he said after a long while, his voice low and hoarse. "We caught it in time, and it hasn't caused any irreversible damage."

Nora was stunned.

"Can I be saved?" she murmured.

Isaac chuckled softly, "Of course. Rhys said that although you have a lot of residual toxins in your body and a stomach ulcer, it's not life-threatening. As long as you rest well and get rid of the toxins, you'll recover."

Nora was bewildered.

So, the ulcer was likely caused by taking that medicine?

When she didn't take it much before, her stomach pain was infrequent. After taking the medicine, the pain increased.

It must have been the medicine that damaged her stomach.

Luckily, Isaac found out, otherwise, she would have been poisoned to death.

Nora let out a long sigh of relief. She was actually afraid of dying. And she didn't want to die.

Knowing she wouldn't die, she couldn't hide her excitement and joy.

She was so happy that she could spend more time with the kids.

This time, she wouldn't break her promise. She could watch them grow up, see them start their own families!

"Nora, if you ever feel unwell or are diagnosed with something, you must tell me. Don't keep it to yourself, okay? No matter what happens, I'll face it with you. You don't have to bear it alone!" Isaac's voice suddenly became serious.

Nora snapped back to reality. She lowered her eyes, emotions surging inside. She didn't know how to respond to Isaac.

And she was afraid to rely on Isaac, afraid to pin her hopes on him.

"Did you want to divorce me because you thought you had stomach cancer and wouldn't live for more than three months?" Isaac asked.

Nora's heart sank, a trace of panic in her eyes. "What are you talking about? I don't understand."

Actually, since Isaac took her to the hospital, she suspected that he knew she was faking amnesia.

Now that Isaac asked this question, she was even more certain that he knew she had regained her memory.

But Nora didn't want to face him, didn't want to admit she had regained her memory.

Isaac was silent for a moment, then didn't press further.

Nora gently pushed him away.

Isaac controlled his emotions and slowly let her go.

"Give me that medicine. I'll take it to Rhys and get you some medicine. Starting tomorrow, you'll need to take it for a while to help expel the toxins and heal your stomach."

Nora nodded. She went back to her room, took the medicine from the cabinet, and handed it to Isaac.

Isaac put the medicine in his pocket and headed out.

Nora advised, "It's late in the night and maybe you could go tomorrow?"

Isaac said, "It's fine, I'm not tired." He wanted to get the medicine quickly so she could start her treatment and recover sooner.

Seeing his determination, Nora didn't persuade him further.

However, she didn't go back to her room but sat in the living room, planning to wait for Isaac before going to bed.

Three hours later and it was already past midnight, Isaac still hadn't come back.

Nora hesitated before she dialed Isaac's number.
