Chapter 287 Your Son Will Call Me Daddy
Mortimer's expression froze slightly, as if someone had stabbed him in the heart. But he hid it well on the surface. He was only momentarily surprised before returning to normal.
"Daddy, where have you been these past few days? Why do you have so many scars on your face? Are you hurt?" Soren ran towards Isaac, shouting as he went.
Isaac's gaze fell on Soren.
Thinking about how she and Mortimer had walked in hand in hand, laughing and talking, made him feel very uncomfortable.
The thought that she was Mortimer's child made him even more uncomfortable.
But he also knew how much Nora liked these two children.
If he showed a bad attitude towards the children, Nora would resent him and become dissatisfied with him.
Isaac quickly thought it over and suppressed his displeasure, forcing a smile.
"I accidentally fell and got cut by some glass on the ground. It's fine now, don't worry." Isaac deliberately glanced at Mortimer, a cold smile in his eyes.
Seeing Mortimer's own daughter calling someone else daddy must make him feel very uncomfortable too, right?
There was just one thing he couldn't understand: why hadn't Nora and Mortimer revealed the truth about the kids?
It seemed Nora hadn't even told the kids that their biological father was Mortimer.
Was she afraid they would be labeled as illegitimate children? Or was she worried that people would find out that she got pregnant with them so soon after her last relationship ended, causing speculation and damaging their reputation?
He thought both reasons were likely.
"Daddy, you need to be more careful when you walk. Don't fall again. Your face is so handsome, just like Magnus's. It would be a shame if it got hurt," Soren said with concern.
Mortimer's throat tightened, a flash of urgency in his eyes.
Magnus's face looked so much like Isaac's that even a child could see the resemblance.
Now that Soren had said this in Isaac's ear, who knew if Isaac would become suspicious.
Isaac said, "Hmm, I'll be more careful in the future. This time, I recovered quickly thanks to your mommy taking care of me. Otherwise, I wouldn't have healed so fast. She helped me clean my body every day and applied medicine all over. I owe it all to her." He said this while looking at Mortimer.
Mortimer clenched his fists tightly, then slowly relaxed. He put on a gentle smile and said, "It's getting late. the kids must be hungry. I'll order some food to be delivered."
He led Magnus into the living room, sat down, and took out his phone to order food.
Isaac said, "You just order for yourself. I'll cook for my wife and kids."
Nora frowned. "Are you crazy? You just got out of the hospital, and your injuries haven't fully healed. You can't do strenuous activities, let alone tire yourself out!"
Isaac looked at her quietly. "I don't want to eat what he orders. Either you cook for me separately, or I'll cook for you and the kids."
Mortimer frowned. "Isaac, you're staying at someone else's house. This is Nora's home. Since you're living here, don't make unreasonable demands."
Isaac smirked, "She's my wife. Her home is my home. You're the only outsider here."
Mortimer's face stiffened.
Magnus grumbled discontentedly, "Uncle Mortimer isn't an outsider. He's our family. He's the one who raised us!"
Isaac looked coldly, exuding a chilling aura.
Nora looked at the two of them, filled with tension, and sighed helplessly. "Alright, stop arguing. I'll cook tonight. I'll handle dinner for everyone!"
She got up and went to the kitchen.
During dinner, the atmosphere between Isaac and Mortimer remained tense.
Isaac looked ready to start a fight at any moment.
Mortimer's face didn't look good either.
Nora, caught between the two, felt immense pressure.
That night.
As she took the kids back to their room, Isaac deliberately said, "Honey, I'll be waiting for you in the room. After you put the kids to bed, come find me quickly."
Nora glared at him angrily.
He was definitely doing it on purpose!
Mortimer said nothing, but the air around him grew heavier.
Nora entered the room and slammed the door shut.
After Magnus finished his bath, he ran off to find Mortimer. Ever since reconnecting with Mortimer, he insisted on sleeping with him every night, becoming especially clingy to him and more distant from her.
Nora felt very uncomfortable about it. But every time she tried to keep Magnus with her, he protested with silent tears.
She couldn't bear to see him sad, so she let him go to Mortimer. She lay in bed holding Soren.
"Mommy," Soren suddenly said, "I think Magnus has changed. He doesn't seem like Magnus anymore. Could he have been switched?"
Nora paused, surprised. "Why would you think that?"
Soren said, "Magnus is different now. He used to never be apart from me, but now he doesn't like to be with me. At school, when I look for him during recess, he ignores me. At home, he plays games by himself and doesn't play with me. At night, he wants to sleep with uncle Mortimer and not with us. Magnus never used to be like this. We used to have to hold hands to fall asleep."
Nora had also noticed that Magnus had changed. But she thought it was because he was traumatized by the night she didn't come home.
"Mommy, could Magnus not be the same Magnus anymore? Could he have been switched?" Soren asked innocently, blinking his big eyes.
Nora laughed. "Don't let your imagination run wild. How could Magnus not be Magnus? You know his face. It looks exactly like him. It's impossible for him to have been switched."
To switch him, they would need a child the same age, height, weight, and voice as Magnus. That was simply impossible.
Even though Magnus looked like Isaac, there were still differences between them.
If someone wanted to switch Magnus, where would they find a child who looked so much like him?
Even if she had another child, it wouldn't look exactly like Magnus, let alone some unrelated child from outside.
