Chapter 156 Why Does Magnus Resemble Issac So Much?
Nora rushed to the study, picked up Magnus, and hurriedly left.
Even after leaving the villa area and getting into a taxi, her emotions hadn't calmed down.
Isaac's words, his affectionate gaze, and his pained expression after being rejected kept replaying in Nora's mind.
Tears uncontrollably welled up in her eyes, and her heart felt like needles were pricking it.
She didn't want to hurt Isaac...
Since discovering her illness, she had always wanted Isaac to hate her.
But why did Isaac forgive her instead? She knew better than anyone how painful unrequited love was.
"Mommy." A sweet voice suddenly brought Nora back to reality.
Nora hastily wiped away her tears and forced a smile at Magnus. "What's up?"
Magnus asked, "Mommy, what's your relationship with that sir?"
Nora's eyes flickered, and she said perfunctorily, "Don't overthink it. He's just a friend."
Magnus then asked, "Why do I look so much like him? Is he my brother?"
Nora choked a bit and twitched her mouth. "Of course not. He's older than me. I couldn't have given birth to such an old son."
Magnus blinked innocently, saying, "Then is he my and Soren's daddy?"
Nora immediately denied, "No! Your father is already dead!"
Magnus suspected Isaac was his brother instead of his daddy because Nora had always told them their daddy was dead.
Not only did Nora say it, but everyone around them also said their daddy had passed away.
"Then why do I look so much like him?" Magnus asked in confusion.
Nora said, "You both have common features. It's normal to look a bit similar."
Magnus pouted and touched his face, nodding somewhat understandingly.
Nora quietly breathed a sigh of relief.
She took Magnus to Mortimer's place.
"Mommy, brother!" Soren had been waiting for them. As soon as they entered, she happily rushed over and gave Magnus a perfunctory kiss. Then, she unhesitatingly pulled Magnus out of Nora's arms and threw himself into Nora's embrace.
Magnus pouted unhappily.
"Mommy, I miss you so much!" Soren rubbed his little head against her.
Nora laughed and picked her up. "I miss you too."
Mortimer walked over and asked, "Does Isaac discover Magnus?"
Nora said, "He sees Magnus, but Magnus' mask isn't removed, so he doesn't see his face and probably doesn't suspect anything."
Then, she briefly told Mortimer about what happened, omitting Isaac's confession.
Mortimer breathed a sigh of relief.
"It's getting late. I've had dinner prepared. Let's eat first," Mortimer said.
Nora nodded. "Alright, I'll take the kids to wash their hands first."
After eating with the kids, Nora prepared to leave.
"Mommy, it's so late. Where are you going?" Soren asked, reluctantly holding her hand. "Aren't you going to sleep with us?"
Nora patted her little head apologetically, "I have some things to do and can't stay with you tonight. Be good and stay at Mortimer's. I'll come see you tomorrow, okay?"
Soren said sadly, "It's been one hundred and two days since you last slept with us."
Nora felt a pang of guilt.
Mortimer said, "It's so late. You haven't seen the kids for so long. Stay with them tonight and handle your things tomorrow."
Nora said, "I have some personal matters to deal with."
She couldn't stay at Mortimer's overnight.
Otherwise, if Isaac found out, he'd cause trouble. It might even expose Magnus and Soren's existence.
"Alright, then go ahead. I'll take good care of Magnus and Soren," Mortimer said without pressing further.
Nora said gratefully, "Thank you."
Then, she squatted down and apologized to the two kids, "Magnus, Soren, I can't stay with you tonight. I'll take you out tomorrow to make it up to you, okay?"
Magnus and Soren looked disappointed.
But they had been apart from Nora often, so while they longed for her company, they could accept her absence.
"Alright, but you have to keep your word. Spend the whole day with us tomorrow!" Soren said sweetly.
Nora smiled and nodded, "Okay, I'll take you on a picnic tomorrow. Sleep well tonight so you can have fun tomorrow."
The kids' eyes lit up instantly.
Mortimer said, "Are you taking them on a picnic? I'll help you pick a spot tonight and prepare the necessary gear."
Nora said gratefully, "Thank you, that would be very helpful."
Mortimer smiled. "No need to be so formal between us."
Nora smiled silently.
After leaving Mortimer's, Nora took a cab to the store. She was afraid of running into Steve at home.
Dealing with Isaac was exhausting enough. She didn't have the energy to deal with Steve.
Now that the kids were with her, she didn't want to continue with Steve.
Nora thought for a moment and texted Steve: [I think it over and decide to end our arrangement early. The card is in its usual place. Take it and leave. Please don't contact me again.]
Without waiting for Steve's reply, she assumed he had agreed.
After the cab stopped at the store, Nora unlocked the store door with her key.
She heard faint sounds and saw dim light from inside. Nora closed the door and walked in, finding Sophia drinking again.
"Sophia, why are you here drinking again instead of going home?" Nora walked over and took the bottle from her hand.
Seeing Nora, Sophia instantly started crying. "Nora, I feel terrible. I don't think I can hold on. I want to die," Sophia said.
Nora sank her heart, quickly asking, "Don't we already deal with Cole? We get the house and money back. Everything is getting better. Why are you thinking like this?"
Sophia sobbed. "But the video of me sleeping with someone was exposed. So many people are sending me nasty messages. Today, when I go home, people in the neighborhood are pointing at me. Some conservative old folks even call me shameless and wouldn't let me go home, saying I'd be a bad influence."
Nora fumed. "How can they be like this? You're the victim. How dare they insult you? Are they out of their minds?"
Sophia cried even harder, "They said if I had self-respect and didn't sleep with men before marriage, there wouldn't be any such videos. They said it's my fault for being indiscreet."
