Chapter 415 Mortimer Had Murderous Intent
Mortimer's pupils contracted, and he looked at Barrett in shock, his gaze growing colder.
How could Barrett, with such severe injuries, possibly wake up?
After returning, he specifically consulted foreign experts.
He consulted many experts and showed them Barrett's case. They all said there was no hope for Barrett to wake up, and it was a miracle he was even alive.
It was because Rhys saved him that Barrett barely managed to stay alive.
But for him to wake up was almost impossible.
But now...
While Mortimer was pondering, Barrett slowly opened his eyes.
Barrett's eyes were empty and confused, as if he hadn't figured out the situation yet.
After a moment, his eyes slowly focused, and a spark of life appeared in them.
Then, he saw Mortimer standing by the bed, looking down at him.
Fear appeared in Barrett's eyes, and his whole face trembled.
Mortimer's gaze grew even colder.
Barrett's reaction indicated that he remembered everything that happened before the incident.
He also knew that Mortimer had deliberately held him in front, causing Isaac to kick him.
Mortimer asked in a deep voice, "Barrett, what are you afraid of?"
Barrett trembled even more, the fear in his eyes growing stronger, and he voiced nothing.
It was unclear whether he couldn't speak due to being in a coma for too long or was too scared to say anything.
Mortimer sat by the bed and gently stroked Barrett's cheek.
Barrett became even more tense.
Mortimer chuckled softly and spoke warmly, "What are you afraid of? Haven't I treated you well? I love you more than anyone else in the world and I've always been good to you. You shouldn't be scared of me."
"You're making me feel very sad."
Barrett bit his lip lightly, his face pale and bloodless.
"You were cuter when you were asleep. You should go back to sleep." Mortimer comforted softly.
His hand slowly moved to Barrett's mouth and nose, his fingers gently blocking Barrett's nose.
With his breath cut off, Barrett tried to open his mouth for air, but Mortimer's other two fingers pressed against his lips, keeping him from getting a breath.
Barrett, having just woken up, was weak and his body hadn't recovered.
He found that he couldn't lift his hands and couldn't resist at all.
He could only look at Mortimer in terror and despair, tears streaming down his face.
Seeing Barrett's pained expression, Mortimer hesitated for a moment.
But if Barrett recovered, he might tell Nora.
Mortimer soothed him, "Don't be afraid, I'm just putting you back to sleep."
Lack of oxygen would cause brain damage, and Barrett would continue to be in a coma.
He just wanted Barrett to stay in a coma, not to take his life.
After all, he had saved Barrett and given him life. He had the right to decide Barrett's life and death.
At that moment, footsteps and Nora's voice came from outside the door.
"How has Magnus been doing lately?"
"His condition has been stable, his injuries are steadily improving, but he hasn't woken up yet."
"His physical condition needs to be reassessed when Rhys comes next time." This was Rhys's assistant's voice.
Nora asked, "Did Rhys say when Magnus might wake up?"
The assistant replied, "Rhys didn't say. It's hard to predict such things, especially with spinal injuries. Recovery is really challenging, and the odds of waking up aren't great. Even with Rhys stepping in, there's no guarantee of a full recovery."
Nora didn't say anything more.
By this time, the footsteps had reached the door of the ward.
Mortimer's eyes darkened, and he quickly let go of him.
Barrett began to gasp for air.
Mortimer gently patted his chest and voiced softly, "Magnus, don't get excited. You just woke up, stay calm. I know you missed me. I'll visit you often from now on, so don't get too excited, okay?"
As he spoke, Mortimer gave him a warning look.
Barrett gasped for breath, his face still very pale.
Nora pushed open the door to the ward.
As she walked in, she heard Mortimer's words and froze, looking up at the bed in shock.
Who was Mortimer talking to?
Because Mortimer's body was blocking Barrett on the bed, she didn't see that Barrett had opened his eyes.
The assistant doctor had just told her that Magnus's chances of waking up were slim, so she wasn't really considering that possibility..
What struck her as odd was seeing Mortimer talking to himself in the ward.
Mortimer pretended to just notice Nora's arrival, turned to her in surprise, and uttered excitedly, "Nora, you're just in time. Look, Magnus has woken up!"
"What?" Nora was incredulous, "Magnus woke up? You're not kidding me?"
Mortimer smiled, "How could I joke about something like this? If you don't believe me, see for yourself."
Nora quickly walked to the bedside and looked down at the bed.
She saw that Magnus had indeed opened his eyes!
Nora was both surprised and delighted, trembling with excitement, her breathing erratic.
"He's awake, Magnus is really awake!"
"Soren can hear again, and Magnus has woken up. God is still looking out for me, letting my children recover."
Nora was so excited she was incoherent, tears streaming uncontrollably, her whole body trembling with excitement.
She was so excited she couldn't calm down.
Soon, she noticed something was wrong with Magnus and asked nervously, "What's wrong with Magnus? Why is his breathing so rapid? Why is his face so pale?"
Mortimer explained, "Although he's woken up, his body is still very weak. It's normal for his face to be pale."
"As for his rapid breathing, he's probably too excited to wake up. Once he calms down, he'll be fine. Don't worry too much, let the doctor check on him first."
Nora nodded vigorously, "Yes, let the doctor check on him!"
"Doctor, please check on Magnus! How is he doing now?"
"Now that he's awake, can you assess his condition?"
The assistant doctor was also very shocked to see Magnus awake.
A few days ago, Rhys had checked on Magnus and said that although his condition was stable, it was still quite severe.
In just a few days, he had woken up.
It was incredible!
Including Soren, who regained his hearing after the bandages were removed.
These two kids' recovery abilities were truly astonishing!
The assistant doctor quickly regained his composure and spoke excitedly, "Alright, I'll check on him now. Please wait outside for a moment."
Nora asked, "Can't we stay and watch?"
The assistant doctor replied, "It's not that you can't, but some of the checks might be a bit rough, and we're concerned that family members might not handle it well."
What they considered normal procedures might be seen as causing unnecessary suffering by worried family members.
So, if possible, they preferred to conduct the checks without the family present.
