Chapter 379 Sowing Discord
"Nora, where have you been lately? And what about Magnus and Soren? Are they with you?" Mortimer asked worriedly.
"You haven't brought Magnus and Soren to see me for a while, and I kind of miss them."
"I went to their school today to look for them, but their homeroom teacher said that Magnus and Soren haven't been to school for a while. Is something wrong?"
Nora said, "Soren injured her ear and needed a quiet environment to heal, so I took her to live outside the city for a while, and I brought Magnus along too."
"I thought Magnus often kept in touch with you. Didn't he tell you?"
Mortimer sighed and chuckled, "Magnus has blocked my account and phone number, probably because Isaac blocked my number when Magnus wasn't paying attention."
Nora's mouth twitched.
She didn't need to check to know it was Isaac's doing.
Only Isaac would be so bored as to block Mortimer behind Magnus's back.
Mortimer asked, "Nora, can you tell me where you are? I want to come see you, mainly to see the kids."
He was afraid Nora wouldn't want to see him to avoid trouble, so he deliberately said he wanted to see the kids.
Nora hesitated for a moment but ultimately refused, "You better not come for now. After Soren's ear heals, I'll bring them back and arrange a meeting with you."
Mortimer's voice was a bit forlorn, "Don't you trust me? I just want to see them."
"I watched them grow up, and now that I know Soren is hurt, I'm very worried about her and want to see how she's doing."
Nora frowned slightly, feeling conflicted inside.
She wasn't worried that Mortimer would harm Soren.
She wanted to avoid trouble.
If Isaac found out that Mortimer came here to see them, he would definitely be furious.
Nora's heart suddenly tightened.
Why was she still considering Isaac's feelings?
Isaac had been secretly dating other women, so why should she care about his feelings?
Nora bit her lip and said decisively, "I'll send you the address later. Come over when you have time. Magnus misses you and talks about you almost every day."
Mortimer's gentle voice instantly became cheerful, "Okay, once you send the address, I'll come right over."
Nora said, "Don't share this address with anyone else."
Mortimer responded, "Okay, I understand."
Nora hung up the phone and sent a location address.
Nearly three hours later, Mortimer called again.
Nora answered the phone, and Mortimer's voice immediately came through, "Nora, I'm at the entrance of the estate, but the guards are stopping me from entering. Can you talk to them?"
Nora said, "Wait a moment, I'll come get you."
She hung up the phone, got into a car, and drove to the entrance of the estate.
It was quite a distance from the estate entrance, taking about half an hour to walk, so driving was more convenient and faster.
Nora drove and arrived at the entrance in five minutes.
After getting out of the car, she saw a dozen guards forming a human wall, blocking Mortimer outside.
Nora walked up and said calmly, "Move aside and let him in. I invited him."
"Mrs. Porter." the guards greeted Nora politely.
One of the guards said awkwardly, "But Mr. Porter instructed that no one from outside is allowed in without his permission."
Nora said coldly, "Didn't he also say that my orders are his orders? That everything here follows my arrangements?"
The guard nodded, "Yes, Mr. Porter did say that."
Nora said, "Then that's it. I told you to let him in, so just do it."
The guards looked at each other, still hesitant to let Mortimer in, "But Mr. Porter..."
They all knew Mortimer and were aware of the grudge between Isaac and Mortimer.
So even with Nora's order, they didn't dare let Mortimer in.
Nora's face instantly darkened, "What? Do I not have the authority to command you?"
"If that's the case, I'll have Isaac replace me with a new mistress!"
The guards turned pale with fright and said urgently, "Please calm down, Mrs. Porter. We will follow your orders. Please don't tell Mr. Porter."
If Isaac found out they didn't obey Nora, he wouldn't let them off.
The guards immediately stepped aside.
As Mortimer walked in, they said awkwardly, "Mrs. Porter, about Mr. Porter..."
Nora said calmly, "I'll call him and explain."
The guards breathed a sigh of relief, "Okay, thank you, Mrs. Porter."
Mortimer parked his car at the entrance and got into Nora's car, heading into the estate.
In the car, Mortimer smiled and said, "The environment here is nice, perfect for recuperating."
Nora responded indifferently, focusing on driving.
The car soon stopped in front of a house.
Nora and Mortimer got out of the car.
Nora said, "Magnus is in class inside. Wait until he finishes this lesson before you see him."
Mortimer nodded, "Okay, no rush."
"What happened to Soren? How did she get so badly injured that she can't hear?"
Nora's eyes darkened, and she said quietly, "Soren was kidnapped by traffickers for a while. When we found her, her ear was injured. Rhys has been treating her, and she's just started to recover a bit. She needs about six more months of treatment to be able to have normal conversations."
Mortimer was stunned for a moment and asked, "Soren was kidnapped by traffickers? When did this happen? Why didn't you tell me?"
Nora said, "I only found out after she was found."
Mortimer thought about the events of that time and tentatively asked, "Was it when we went out with Isaac and the kids?"
Nora nodded.
Mortimer suddenly understood, "No wonder Isaac was acting so strange that day."
Then, he said reproachfully, "Isaac was really careless.. Soren was lost, and he didn't tell us in time."
"If he had told us earlier, we could have searched together, and maybe Soren would have come back sooner and not gotten hurt."
Nora's eyes darkened further.
Mortimer sighed, "I knew Isaac hates me and didn't want me involved in anything related to you, but when it came to Soren's safety, how could he be so petty?"
"After all, Soren wasn't raised by him, so he doesn't know how to care. If I had been with Soren, I wouldn't have let her out of my sight for a moment, wouldn't have given traffickers a chance to take her, and wouldn't have let her get hurt."
Mortimer wiped the tears from the corners of his eyes.
"Nora, don't overthink it. I'm not blaming Isaac. I'm just heartbroken for Soren."
"Soren was raised by me, and hearing that she was kidnapped and her ear was injured made me feel terrible. My mind is a mess, and I can't help but say some nonsense."
"I believe in Isaac's character. Even if he didn't know Soren's identity, he wouldn't be so despicable as to deliberately lose her and make her disappear from your life."
