Chapter 457: If You Don't Show Up, I'll Assume You're Dead

"Mrs. Porter? What brings you here?"

Butler Mark was very surprised to see Nora, and he couldn't hide his nervousness.

Isaac had instructed that no one outside the villa should know about Magnus's existence.

Not even Nora or Edmund could be told!

Currently, Magnus was upstairs.

If Nora saw Magnus, Isaac would blame him, and he couldn't bear the consequences!

So, after a moment of shock, Mark immediately blocked Nora's way.

Nora's face darkened, and she scrutinized Mark from head to toe. "Why are you so nervous to see me, Mark?"

Mark forced a smile and shook his head. "I'm not nervous, just very surprised and delighted to see you, Mrs. Porter, after such a long time."

Nora didn't want to waste words with him and asked, "Where's Isaac? Has he come back?"

Mark shook his head. "Mr. Porter hasn't returned yet."

Nora replied, "Then I'll wait for him."

With that, she intended to bypass Mark and head upstairs.

But Mark quickly moved his feet and politely smiled at Nora.

"If Mrs. Porter wants to wait for Mr. Porter, you can wait downstairs. This way, you'll see Mr. Porter as soon as he returns."

Nora squinted her eyes slightly. "You don't want me to go upstairs? Is Isaac hiding someone at home again, afraid I'll find out?"

The smile on Mark's face froze for a moment.

Nora guessed correctly.

Isaac was hiding a son.

If Nora saw him, there would be a big scene.

Mark answered, "Mrs. Porter, don't overthink. There's no woman in the house right now."

He was telling the truth.

There was a little boy hidden in the house, not a woman.

Nora took a deep breath and said in a low voice, "Move aside, I'll go up and see for myself."

Mark said with difficulty, "Mrs. Porter, please don't make it hard for me."

"Mr. Porter instructed that if anyone visits, they can only stay on the first floor, not allowed to go upstairs."

"I'm just following orders. If Mrs. Porter wants to go upstairs, you can call Mr. Porter. If he agrees, I won't stop you!"

Nora's face grew even darker. "I can't go up either?"

Mark replied, "I think that includes you. Mr. Isaac Porter said that even if Mr. Edmund Porter comes, he can't wander around."

Nora's face turned ugly with anger, and she felt a pang of sadness in her heart.

Isaac always said she was his only wife.

But now, she didn't even have the freedom to walk around his house.

How much of what he said was true, and how much was false?

Nora walked to the sofa, sat down, and continued to call Isaac.

But Isaac still didn't answer.

Seeing that Nora didn't insist on going upstairs, Mark breathed a sigh of relief.

He quietly walked away and sent a text message to Isaac: [Mr. Porter, Mrs. Porter is at the villa waiting for you now.]

Then, he contacted the servants upstairs taking care of Magnus, instructing them to quietly move Magnus out of Isaac's room to another room.

This way, even if Nora forced her way upstairs, she wouldn't see Magnus.

Since the incident of Magnus being abused was exposed, Isaac had brought Magnus to his room, letting Magnus sleep with him.

Isaac's room had his scent, and even if Isaac was at work, Magnus felt more at ease in Isaac's room than in other rooms.

Nora waited in the living room for four hours, but Isaac didn't come back.

Soren called from home, asking when she would return.

Nora couldn't bear to leave Magnus and Soren alone, especially since Magnus had some psychological issues and lacked a sense of security.

She needed to be with him, or he wouldn't sleep all night.

Nora decided not to wait any longer and got up to leave.

Just as she turned around, someone ran down the stairs from upstairs.

Several maids chased after him in a panic but didn't shout because Magnus couldn't hear. They could only speed up to catch him.

Nora heard the commotion behind her, stopped, and turned around.

As she turned, she saw Mark standing behind her with a fake smile on his face. "Mrs. Porter, do you have any instructions?"

Nora frowned and didn't answer him. She looked past his head towards the stairs.

But she only saw the backs of a few maids.

They hurriedly went upstairs.

Nora asked sternly, "Why are there so many maids upstairs?"

Isaac didn't like people moving around in his resting area. Even if he wasn't home, few people would go upstairs.

But now, there were so many maids on the third floor. It didn't look normal!

Mark dared to lie. "They're cleaning upstairs!"

Nora pressed, "The villa is cleaned every morning. It's eleven at night now. How could they be cleaning?"

"Besides, I came here at seven. I've been in the living room since I arrived and didn't see anyone go upstairs. Now they're upstairs, which means they were already upstairs before I came."

"What kind of cleaning takes so long upstairs?"

Mark continued to lie. "They're doing a detailed cleaning, so it takes more time."

Nora sneered.

She didn't want to waste words with Mark and directly pushed him aside, heading upstairs.

Mark immediately chased after her, trying to stop her.

"Mrs. Porter, you can't go upstairs. Mr. Porter instructed!"

But Nora was too fast. Mark, being older, couldn't catch up with her!

Nora didn't look back, "If he blames anyone, let him come to me!"

As she spoke, she had already reached the third floor.

She went straight to the master bedroom door and pushed it open.

The room was empty.

She walked to the closet, opened it, and found only Isaac's clothes. She didn't realize she had quietly sighed in relief.

She thought Isaac was hiding a lover in the villa again.

Last time, she didn't know why Isaac brought those two women back to the villa.

But she believed Isaac didn't like them.

If Isaac liked them, he wouldn't have deliberately harmed them, making her hit one of them.

After checking the closet, Nora left the master bedroom and planned to check other rooms.

The maids staying upstairs was very unusual. She had to find them to ask!

Soon, Nora found two maids in a room.

The two maids stood in the room, looking very nervous.

Seeing her, they awkwardly smiled. "Good evening, Mrs. Porter."

Nora glanced at them and then looked around the room.

There were only the two of them in the room.

Nora asked, "What are you doing here?"

The two maids exchanged glances, each hoping the other would come up with an excuse.

Nora's voice grew colder, "Do you think I don't have the right to question you? So you can ignore my questions?"

The maids' faces changed, and they quickly shook their heads.

"No, it's not that."

Nora grew impatient, "Stop making excuses. Answer my question directly. What are you sneaking around on the third floor for?"

The maids looked to Mark, who had followed Nora, for help.

Mark gave them a helpless look and signaled with his eyes for them to come up with an excuse.

One of the maids bit her lip, then suddenly knelt on the ground as if she had made a desperate decision.

sHE began to wail, pulling at her hair in anguish, her expression twisted in pain.

Nora was startled by the maid's sudden outburst and asked, "What are you doing? I just asked you a question. Don't get so worked up."

The maid continued to wail in pain, "Mrs. Porter, I'm sorry, I deserve to die. I coveted Mr. Porter's looks and wanted to climb into his bed, so I sneaked upstairs to find an opportunity..."

"The one next to me is my friend. I forced her to help me!"

Nora squinted her eyes, "Did Mark know you wanted to climb into bed? Did he let you do as you pleased?"

The maid cried even harder, "Mr. McCall is my uncle. I got into the villa through connections, and I asked Uncle Mark to bring me in and turn a blind eye, giving me a chance to gain a higher position."

"Mrs. Porter, I was wrong. I won't dare to do it again. Please forgive me!"

Mark was stunned.

He had told her to come up with an excuse, but not such an explosive one!

But on second thought, there didn't seem to be a more reasonable excuse.

Mark reacted quickly and immediately put on a guilty expression.

"I'm sorry, Mrs. Porter. I thought you and Mr. Porter had separated since you hadn't come back with him for so long. I wanted to help my relative. If my niece succeeded, my position with Mr. Porter would also improve."

"I was really out of my mind. I deserve to die!"

As he spoke, he slapped himself a few times.

Nora's face was uncertain.

She coldly glanced at the maid and then at Mark, saying in a cold voice, "Report this to Isaac truthfully yourself."

Mark nodded repeatedly, "Yes, I will definitely confess to Mr. Porter!"

Nora, feeling annoyed, turned to leave.

She didn't live here now, so she had no right to manage things here. She could only let them report to Isaac.

Maids trying to climb into Isaac's bed had happened before.

Nora didn't doubt it.

She never imagined that Isaac would be hiding a child at home.

In normal thinking, one would only suspect he was hiding a woman, not a son.

After Nora went downstairs, the maid looked at Mark with a tearful face, "Mr. McCall, does this mean I can't work at the villa anymore? I don't want to lose this high-paying job!"

Although working at the villa meant facing immense pressure and being on edge around Isaac, the salary was really high!

Higher than some company executives' salaries!

She could do this job for life!

Mark patted her shoulder, "You did a good job today. Even if Mr. Porter dismisses you, he will give you enough compensation!"

The maid immediately stopped crying and showed a greedy smile.

Mark said helplessly, "I don't know why Mr. Porter and Mrs. Porter are having issues again. When will they reconcile?"

Mark shook his head and went downstairs to call Isaac, telling him that Nora had left and reporting what had just happened.

After Nora returned home, Magnus and Soren had already taken their baths.

Nora also took a bath and lay down on the bed with Magnus and Soren.

The nanny had left her some food, but she had no appetite to eat.

"Mommy, why did you come back so late today? Did you go to see Daddy?" Soren asked in a sweet childlike voice, snuggling in Nora's arms.

Magnus also looked at her curiously.

He hadn't seen Isaac for a long time and really wanted to see him now.

Nora replied, "I was busy with work. I'll try to come back right after you finish school from now on."

Magnus asked, "Didn't you contact Daddy? Didn't you ask when he would finish his business trip and come back?"

Nora lied, "He's busy with work and didn't have time to answer the phone. I'll try to contact him again tomorrow."

Magnus suddenly pursed his lips, his expression changing instantly.

He asked in a low voice, "Mommy, does Daddy not want us anymore?"

Nora rubbed his head and forced a smile, "Don't think like that. He loves you both so much. How could he not want you? He's just too busy. It'll be better after a while."

Magnus's eyes turned red, tears welling up, and his voice trembled.

"It doesn't take much time to answer a phone call. Daddy can't be so busy that he doesn't have time to answer the phone, right?"

"Does Daddy not love me anymore? Does he not want me? Is that why he's avoiding me and not answering Mommy's calls?"

As he spoke, tears fell like broken pearls.

Soren was also affected and started crying.

"Why doesn't Daddy want us? We don't have a Daddy anymore."

Nora quickly sat up, holding Magnus and Soren in her arms, frantically wiping their tears.

But their tears seemed endless, no matter how much she wiped.

"Don't cry. He hasn't abandoned you."

Soren cried, "Then call Daddy. I want to hear Daddy say it himself!"

Nora was in a difficult position.

If she could contact Isaac, she wouldn't be so troubled.

Soren cried even harder, "Mommy, you don't even want to contact Daddy. Daddy doesn't want us anymore!"

Magnus, who had been silently crying, also started wailing after hearing Soren's words.

No matter how much Nora tried to comfort them, it was useless.

She could only pick up her phone and call Isaac again.

This time, Isaac still didn't answer.

Nora was filled with anger.

She furiously typed a message and sent it to Isaac.

[If there's a problem, talk to me face to face. What does avoiding me solve? I'm giving you a chance. Either you come see me tomorrow, or I'll tell Magnus and Soren that you're dead. Let them be sad for a while and forget about you, rather than living with the pain of feeling abandoned because you won't reach out!f]

A few seconds later, she sent another message: [If you don't come to see me tomorrow, I'll consider you dead. If you come to find me later, I'll treat you as a stranger!]
