Steve stared at Nora for a few seconds.
Then, he asked directly, "Did you spend a lot of money to make me fall in love with you because you thought I resembled your ex-husband?

Steve persistently asked, "Do you no longer love him?"

Nora appeared hesitant to speak her mind.

Steve was relentless.

Steve asked, "With your vengeful nature, how could you not only refrain from retaliating against Kalista but also cooperate with her, actively putting her in your ex-husband's bed?"
Nora instinctively clenched her fists.
"Do you have something compromising in her hands? Is she threatening you?" Steve inquired.
Nora shook her head, and answered, "No, I'm not being threatened by anyone."
"Then what is the reason for your actions?" Steve persistently asked.
Nora looked down, unwilling to answer.
Steve urged, "Tell me the reason, will you please? I promise not to tell anyone."
"You're pregnant now, don't keep everything to yourself, it will harm your health," Steve coaxed.
Nora struggled visibly.
She was indeed feeling overwhelmed and wanted to confide, but she couldn't.
Steve saw her wavering and softened his tone, continuing to coax her, "I can be your listener. You can tell me anything that bothers you. Even if I can't come up with a solution, it's better to speak out than to keep it inside."
Nora bit her lip.
After several minutes of silence, she spoke bitterly, "I didn't want to help Isaac and Kalista, but I had no choice.
"Now Edmund and Katie both think I'm carrying Isaac's child, and they are eagerly anticipating the birth of this child.
"But I know in my heart that this child is not Isaac's. Even if he is, I can't bring him into this world.

Seeing her so heartbroken, Steve walked up to her, embraced her, and gently patted her back.

Nora lay against his chest, crying inconsolably.

She remembered the words Isaac had said to her that morning.

She stated, "I want him to hate me."
