Chapter 107 Winnie's Confession
Jeremy: “...Doctor”, a harmless phrase stuck in his throat.
Due to Benjamin's presence, the doctor had to step aside.
Benjamin kicked Jeremy, and both of they quickly disappeared.
For a moment, the spacious corridor was left with only Winnie and a gurney.
Silence filled the air, followed by the soft weeping of a woman and the touch of a man's firm arm against her trembling body.
Winnie gazed at the handsome profile beneath his mask. While a falling glass could be lethal, she found it hard to believe. Suddenly collapsing, she exclaimed, "No, Mr. L, wake up quickly, please. You were conscious when you went in!"
Clutching his arm, she instinctively inserted the Dry Needling to observe his response.
However, the man didn't react!
Winnie's heart sank into an icy abyss. She withdrew the Dry Needling, tears welled up as she sobbed against the man's chest, "How could this happen? Why are you so foolish? Did you ever consider the consequences before saving me?"
"In that moment, I knew, you cared about me, about our child. Otherwise, why would you stand there, risking your life? Sob..."
Her heart pounded. How could she not be moved by such bravery? No man had ever been willing to sacrifice for her like this.
How many times had he saved her?
"I don't want our baby to lose their father, and I don't want... to lose you. Do you hear me?"
Summoning the courage to speak softly, she hoped he’d understand her true feelings.
He had stirred up a whirlwind of emotions within her. Was he the type to playfully tease and then offer sweet gestures?
Winnie took a deep breath, clasping his large hand, and spoke with complexity, "Why are you so enigmatic, yet so caring? You're the kind of man that one can both love and hate. Originally, I planned to escape and break up with you when we met again..."
"...Mr. L" was already awake from the anesthesia and found her heartfelt words rather pleasant.
Just as he was about to feel a bit reassured, damn it, what did she mean by breaking up?
Thankfully, the next moment, the woman started sobbing like a kitten, her tears soaking his arm, "But now I'm sure, I like you. A man who is willing to risk his life for me is worth falling in love with. Can you hear me? Please respond to me, okay?"
Someone's eyebrows softened, a sense of helpless overtaking him. He knew this shehad set her sights on him long ago. This confession was really like her, soft and sweet, just like chocolate wrapped up and tucked into his heart.
It was a bit sweet. How many tears had Benjamin scare out of her?
He really wanted to hold her in his arms and kiss her gently.
"And also, if you were to abandon us, have you ever thought about me and our child?" Winnie pondered her future sorrowfully. "I will undoubtedly give birth to our child, and I probably won't remarry. However, life is unpredictable. If a time comes when I have no choice, and I do remarry, based on your character, wouldn't it drive you crazy even from beyond the grave?"
"..."
How dare she not only contemplate remarriage but also scold him? Could she really be thinking about remarrying?
Mr. L's chest heaved as he suddenly opened his deep, dark eyes still stained with blood.
Afraid to continue listening, she might get even mor furious.
Gazing at the woman who could cjnge emotions with just a couple of sentences, "Remarried? Who are you remarrying?"
"..." Winnie froze, her pale face tilting upwards. The man in front of her opened his eyes and spoke, his voice hoarse but clear.
She hesitated for two seconds, then quickly got up and ran far down the corridor. "Mr. Martin, come and see if just a momentary recovery!"
Tears streamed down her face as she was in a hurry.
Mr. L’s frustration was now reaching towering heights.
Benjamin ...
Jeremy glanced at the teary-eyed, sentimental woman and then at Benjamin, sneering, "Your terrible plan, wait for Mr. L to chew you out."
Benjamin thinking, wasn’t I just attempting to capitalize in Mr. L’s heroism to win over Mrs. L promptly
Benjamin was also speechless, a stiff smile on his face as he walked out to console the grieving woman. "Mrs. L, perhaps Mr. L was moved by you and that’s what caused him to suddenly show improvement again. What do you think, Doctor?"
The doctor lips twitched. He also didn't understand why this topic was thrown at him again. Truly innocent. He pretended to come forward and examine a bit, smiling even more stiffly than Benjamin, "Miss Anderson, even though Mr. L’s injuries are severe and seemingly beyond recovery, his robust constitution is a medical marvel, leading to this sudden return to consciousness."
"..." Winnie sobbed like someone heartbroken, but amidst her slow realization, she managed to grasp a hint.
Her almond-shaped eyes turned dark as she looked at Benjamin, then shifted to the man lying pale on the bed with clear eyes.
Just now, she was anxious and only performed Dry Needling on him, forgetting to check his heart rate.
"You... are you conspiring against me? Mr. L, when did you wake up?"
The man regarded her uncertainly , and her little bunny eyes reddened. It was not fake that she cried and worried for him. He felt warm in his heart and glanced at the doctor faintly, "My head hurts, should I be transferred to intensive care?"
Doctor: "...Absolutely! Hold on, please!"
Winnie: "..." She shot a cold glance at him, but with the mention of intensive care, her hesitation surfaced again.
Seeing Winnie's melancholic expression, Mr. L cast a faint glance at her, his lips pale, "Push me in, having a wife is pointless you are going to ignore me."
"..." In the corridor, the fellow patients who had watched the commotion for a long time whispered among themselves, "Just a moment ago, I thought this woman truly loved her husband. Why the sudden change when she found out he wasn't dead?"
"Could it be that she's worried about missing out on an inheritance?" one whispered.
"Ah, that man looks so handsome. If it were me, I would be willing to take care of him even if he was peeing." Another commented.
Rumors can be quite terrifying. Winnie blushed and had no choice but to approach and push his stretcher bed. At that instant, the man furrowed his brows, "I felt like I was pricked with a needle just now?"
"..." Winnie quickly lowered her head to conceal her face. She was the one who pricked him, but he pretending!
The doctor walked over and examined him, "Mr. L, you have a needle in your hand, probably from the IV."
Winnie didn't hesitate and pushed the man into the VIP intensive care unit. The ward was as luxurious as the presidential suite, fully equipped.
The doctor read the medical records and earnestly spoke to Winnie, "Mr. L suffered a cracked skull after hitting it against the glass. Although all the glass fragments have been removed, head injuries should not be taken lightly. Moreover, he sustained two deep cuts on his spine and scapula. They require proper care to prevent infection."
Winnie's heart raced as she listened. She glanced at the dried bloodstains on his temples and went to the restroom fetch some hot water.
The doctor swiftly question the cold and aloof man, "Mr. L, did I convey the severity of the situation well enough?"
Mr. L sneered at him. "You've written him off, with various complications and even brought a wheelchair."
"..." The injuries you sustained are even more severe.
As Winnie emerged from the restroom, Mr. L’s lips tinged blue. The doctor hurriedly shouted, "Mr. L, is the pain unbearable? Let’s get you on a ventilator! Oh, it's troublesome to have injuries in three different areas. If the head injury affects the nerves, it could result in paralysis."
Winnie's face turned pale. How did it suddenly become so serious again?
The man glanced coldly at the doctor, who quickly put away the medical records and departed faster than an airplane.
Winnie couldn't find Jeremy and Benjamin anywhere in the ward. It was now just the two of them.
She walked to the bedside. With his intense gaze on her, she couldn't keep her head up and gently wiped the bloodstains from the corner of his face.
