Chapter 560 She Doesn't Want the Child
Lawrence's pupils flared with a crimson rage, sinking to rock bottom. He hadn't expected her to reject him with such heartless finality.
Her words were saturated with resentment, indicating a heart that had become as still as stagnant water.
Clearly, she had given up on him, and he would not allow it.
“I will bring the child back to you. You're not leaving. This time, you will marry me, whether you want to or not.
“I want you standing by my side, united with me against everything.”
His voiced thundered as he gripped her hand tightly, preventing her from opening the door.
Rock barged past Luke and hurried over, opening the door from the inside. Catching Winnie as she stumbled, he enveloped her in his arms. “Winnie, are you okay?
“Lawrence, she's my girlfriend now, stay away from her.
“She will never marry you because she's going to marry me. You don't deserve her!”
Lawrence stood on the terrace, his gaze dangerous and narrowing, suffocating the very air around him.
He strode over, seizing Winnie, his eyes locking onto hers with disbelief as if he'd heard a joke, “Girlfriend? She's marrying you? In your dreams.
“You must be delusional.
“Winnie, if you dare agree, I'll kill you.
“Explain yourself!”
Lawrence's heart shattered; he couldn't believe a word Rock said.
“You're using him to fend me off again.” Lawrence's eyes were icy cold.
“It's true.”
Winnie lifted her head calmly.
Winnie wrenched her hand free and walked over to loop her arm through Rock's. Her gaze was icy and composed, like a sword stabbing straight at Lawrence's heart. “It's true, Lawrence
“As I've said, I have a new life.
“Rock and I have decided to date, and it's going well. We'll be getting married soon.
“He's waited for me for many years, and you know that.
“Perhaps it's best we each wish the other well.”
“Shut up!” Lawrence couldn't take it anymore.
She had consigned him to hell.
His dark eyes filled with bloodshot veins, a mist forming, barely concealing his sorrow.
Luke stood by, eyeing Lawrence's condition with concern, afraid that he might spiral into an emotional breakdown and relapse into the neurological disorder he had suffered from years ago.
“Mr. Lawrence, maybe Ms. Winnie said that on purpose.”
“You must have intended to hurt me, Winnie, because you think I've shattered you. Come on, stand by my side. I can't live without you, I can’t lose you.”
His words were a soft, pained whisper, crashing into her heart, but it was already irreparably broken.
All that remained were embarrassment and resentment.
“You lost me long ago,” Winnie replied, her voice as cold as ice.
“As long as I don't say I've lost you, you dare to leave? You belong to me, your body, your heart, even as a ghost after you're dead, you're mine. We're getting married right now.”
Lawrence, consumed by an almost frenzied fervor, seized her with a powerful grip and drew her into his embrace.
“Lawrence, if you dare force her again, I won’t be polite. She's my woman. Winnie has made it clear. Don’t you, the great Lawrence, have any pride or dignity? She doesn’t want you anymore, she’s wished you well. If you’re any kind of man, let her go, release her.”
Rock stood his ground, holding Winnie tightly.
Lawrence turned, noticing her pale face and followed his gaze down to Rock's grubby hands hugging her waist. His eyes flashed with rage, and he kicked out at Rock's shoulder.
Rock stumbled back a few steps.
Lawrence pulled her back into his arms, touching her belly with a trembling hand as veins bulged.
He pinched Winnie's chin, forcing her to look up, the red in his eyes glowing slightly as he sneered, “You're his woman? You've got it all wrong, Winnie. You must be dreaming to think you can marry this brute. My child is growing inside of you, a month along, do you understand? Even in death, you cannot marry him. Not while I'm here, not while my third child is here. Have you given up your illusion?”
His smile bore a devilish triumph, a blend of handsomeness and menace that sent shivers down the spine.
Winnie's skin crawled, her eyes glazed over, not understanding his meaning.
She looked down to see his large hand on her stomach, and with a strong push, she shoved him away, her lips trembling. “I have no idea what you're talking about.
“I'm not carrying your child!” she exclaimed with sheer disbelief. “A third child? That's ludicrous.”
“Your child is in Ishara's womb. Have you forgotten?” Her voice dripped with irony.
Lawrence gripped her wrists firmly to prevent her from struggling, his dark eyes intense yet tender. “You just don't know. Listen to me.”
“Lawrence, if you have any compassion for her, stop being rough. Take it up with me if you must!”
Rock noticed Lawrence on the brink of revealing Winnie's pregnancy in that very moment. His expression shifted, and he swiftly intervened, advancing toward Lawrence and seizing his shirt. “Let's discuss this privately, just between us. Don't vent your frustrations on her!”
Lawrence's brow furrowed, a sign of his frustration, “Luke, pull him off me!”
Rock leaned in close, his hand gripping Lawrence's arm. In a hushed, rapid whisper, he confided, “Do you really think Winnie's still carrying that child? She considered the pregnancy a disgrace and dealt with the problem within the half-month you were abroad. She loathes you to the bone. Why would she keep your seed, giving you a chance to threaten her? Of course, I played my part in her decisive action. Don't bring up the child; she'll never admit to it. Just watch!”
Lawrence's mind went blank.
Rock's words had left Lawrence stunned, rooted to the spot.
Despite Rock's moving lips, Lawrence struggled to comprehend the words.
Nothing seemed to penetrate his mind.
The revelation that Winnie had terminated the pregnancy reverberated relentlessly in his thoughts.
He couldn't fathom it.
Tears gathered in his eyes, signaling the storm brewing within.
‘A risk?’
‘Their child was a risk to her?’
‘An obstacle to her starting anew?’
‘She had aborted it?’
Lawrence had a hard time grasping the information.
He turned around, grabbing Winnie's shoulders in a daze, his grip nearly shattering her frame, control slipping. “You couldn't have, could you? Winnie, that's our flesh and blood! After three years, I got you pregnant again. You can be upset, you can hate me, but you can't take a life.”
“What are you even talking about?” Winnie was confused, unaware of what Rock had whispered to him. She couldn't fathom why his demeanor had changed so drastically.
“Luke, get the car door,” Lawrence ordered, turning his head with a terrifying look in his eyes. He attempted to put a cigarette in his mouth, but his trembling fingertips crushed the filter.
He repeated the gesture, his fingertips slightly shaking.
Luke dashed out, his face a mask of alarm.
After dragging on his cigarette a couple of times, Lawrence grabbed Winnie by the arm, his grip hesitant yet firm. He stared relentlessly at her abdomen, his eyes filled with a mix of sorrow and rage. “ If it’s true, I’ll make you go down with it.”
“Speak clearly, dammit,” she demanded.
Winnie was in total disarray, violently pulled away and shoved into the car.
Rock burst out of the house, but the Bentley had already sped off into the distance.
