Chapter 739 Winnie Sees Rock Sucking Up to People

Someone quickly backed up Phoebe.

Bentley raised an eyebrow and grinned, "Alright then, let's check the surveillance footage. Make sure Lawrence can't weasel out of this. Ms. Peterson deserves justice."

Lawrence smirked, "Yeah, let's check the footage."

He realized Bentley was on his side.

With Lawrence's agreement, Phoebe deflated and shot a look at Ronnie.

Ronnie stepped up and smiled politely at Adam, "Mr. King, let's just drop it. These kids were just being dumb and causing a scene, giving me a headache. It's not often you're in Trento City. I was hoping we could perhaps share a drink and catch up."

Lawrence taunted Ronnie, "Now that we're talking about checking the footage, you're all backing down. Weren't you all so eager to condemn me just a moment ago? Guilty consciences, perhaps?"

Adam frowned, deep in thought.

Ronnie's face fell.

Phoebe turned red and snapped, "Lawrence, I'm just trying to make things easier for Mr. Jenkins and Mr. King, and you accuse me? Stay away from me, or I'll kick your ass."

Mars chimed in, "Lawrence, show Phoebe some respect, and you'll regret it!"

With that, Phoebe and Mars stormed off.

They knew the footage would show Phoebe was lying about Lawrence.

Mars shot Bentley a dirty look, not expecting him to side with Lawrence.

Phoebe and Mars left so fast, everyone knew something was up, but no one said anything.

Most people were more interested in seeing Lawrence humiliated.

The rich guys who had been pushing Lawrence around quickly made excuses to leave.

Soon, it was just Bentley and Lawrence, with Ronnie chatting with Adam in the distance.

Lawrence took a deep breath and looked at Bentley, "Thanks."

Under his tough exterior, his eyes showed a hint of sadness. He hadn't expected anyone to stand up for him.

"Don't mention it. Though, actually, she..." Bentley started but quickly corrected himself, "I just couldn't stand seeing you treated like that. This isn't the Lawrence Rodriguez I remember."

Lawrence's eyes grew colder, "Go ahead. Rub it in."

Bentley paused and patted his shoulder, "I can't stand Ronnie and Mars either. It's clear they set you up. Shouldn't you be trying to win over Adam?"

Lawrence nodded.

Bentley left, and Lawrence thought about his words. He suddenly noticed Winnie standing where Bentley had been. She looked cold and distant.

When their eyes met, Winnie quickly looked away.

Lawrence suddenly understood something, and his cold eyes softened, a warm glow filling them.

He knew she would be here with the Blanchet Family.

That was one of the reasons he insisted on coming tonight.

But Lawrence turned his attention to Adam.

Lawrence was surrounded by Ronnie and his crew.

Even if he approached with the Rodriguez Family's bid, Adam wouldn't give him a chance to speak, especially with Ronnie around.

It would be better to find a quieter moment to talk to Adam alone.

Lawrence couldn't shake the feeling that Adam's look had a hint of dislike. He had no idea why.

As he glanced at Adam again, he couldn't help but think how much he resembled Jeremy. Lawrence sighed inwardly, 'Jeremy, where are you now?'

Meanwhile, Bentley made his way back to Winnie.

"He's out of the woods for now," Bentley winked. "But Adam's got a bad impression of Lawrence. He didn't even give him a chance to introduce himself. With Ronnie around, Lawrence is gonna have a tough time landing this deal."

Winnie was about to say something when she noticed Lawrence looking at her through the crowd. She couldn't quite read his expression, but it made her uneasy. "You didn't tell him anything, did you?"

"Tell him what? That you asked me to help him?" Bentley teased, squinting. "But he's not dumb. He'll figure out sooner or later that you're worried about him."

Winnie quickly denied it, glaring at him, "Why would I be worried about him?"

"Denial is just self-deception," Bentley leaned in closer. "I loved Melanie back in the day, so I get it. He was once the guy you loved. Now, seeing him like this, your feelings must be all over the place—hate, pity, sympathy, conflict."

"Cut it out." Winnie wanted to smack Bentley. She was so mad she was embarrassed, "If you're such an expert on feelings, why don't you go after Melanie now? Mr. Big-Shot President of Jenkins Group?"

Bentley, feeling unfairly criticized, looked speechless, "I helped you, and now you're chewing me out."

"Stop pretending to be all noble. I know you want to side with Lawrence. You can't stand the Peterson Family." Winnie called him out. In the business world, no one at the top acted purely on emotions.

Bentley was genuine, but he had his own motives.

"I'm done talking to you. I'm gonna find Rock." Winnie didn't want to hear any more and quickly turned around. But she couldn't see Rock anywhere.

She remembered Rock mentioning getting a drink earlier, but she hadn't seen him since.

Even as she looked for Rock, Bentley's words kept echoing in her mind.

Was she worried about Lawrence?

Winnie used to hate him with a passion. When he locked her up on the island, she even wished he'd drown in the Evil Eye and lose everything.

But now, seeing him mocked and ridiculed, she didn't feel happy. Instead, she felt conflicted.

But this definitely wasn't worry for him.

Winnie convinced herself it was impossible to like him again; at most, she was thinking about their two sons and didn't want to see him completely fall apart.

After searching around, Winnie finally found Rock in a study on the second floor of the villa.

Rock was drinking tea and chatting with a few men.

Among them, Winnie immediately recognized Samuel. The others were clearly influential political figures.

Rock was sitting slightly lower at the tea table, occasionally picking up the teapot to respectfully serve tea to the others. His deliberate flattery made Winnie feel very unfamiliar.

She quietly stopped in her tracks. It was rare to see Rock flattering others.

In her mind, Rock was always a gentleman. He claimed to be upright, but now, the scene showed he was clearly sucking up to these men.
