Chapter 929 Trying on Wedding Dresses
Winnie was utterly disappointed, struggling to catch her breath. She remembered how Laura had chosen to keep things hidden back then. It wasn't the right time to expose Laura now, especially since they hadn't heard from her in over six months. Laura had gone into hiding.
How was she doing now?
Winnie kept her thoughts to herself, deciding to tackle one issue at a time. She didn't engage with Ray any further. Instead, she took Mia aside and whispered, "Mia, give me the hair!"
Mia obediently reached into her backpack and pulled out a small sealed bag from the innermost pocket. "Ms. Anderson, I did it perfectly. Here are several strands of Dad's hair! But what are you gonna do with them? Is it for some kind of test?"
Winnie was taken aback, staring at Mia. "How do you know? Did Oscar tell you about this?"
"Yeah!" Mia whispered into Winnie's ear, her voice sharp. "Ms. Anderson, are you gonna test if Dad is the father of the baby in my mom's belly?"
Winnie was momentarily speechless, then she playfully tapped Mia's nose, looking into her worried eyes. "Mia, you guessed wrong."
"Wrong?" Mia's eyes widened, her imagination running wild. She covered her mouth and whispered fearfully, "No way! Are you testing if Jeremy and my mom are siblings? I don't want it to be like those crazy TV shows. I just want a dad!"
Winnie almost choked. 'Silly child, who makes up such stories about their parents?'
She held back a laugh and pouted. "Stop watching so much TV. Sidney is right; it's all nonsense. But since you're so cute, I'll help you get what you want."
"Help me?" Mia asked, sucking on her thumb.
"Yes. To get a dad!"
"But I hate that big jerk, Sam. I only want Jeremy as my dad, but he said he only sees me as his niece."
Winnie frowned. "He's so dumb."
"Yeah, he is dumb. I'm so cute, and he doesn't want me. He must hate me." Mia was also upset.
"Alright, I can do something to make him come around."
Winnie waved the hair in her hand and walked out.
Ray, who had been eavesdropping, was confused. "Last night, you asked me to take Mia to Jeremy's house. Did you do something else? I heard you mention 'hair.' Are you doing a paternity test?"
"Can't you guess?" Winnie looked at him, no longer treating him as an outsider.
Ray saw her slightly cold and sharp expression. After a moment, his eyes widened. "Mia and Jeremy?"
He took a deep breath, staring at Winnie. "I was just talking to Benjamin about this yesterday... You're just guessing, right?!"
"It's a guess, but I want to turn it into reality," Winnie said with a cold smile.
Ray looked at her calm and intelligent eyes and suddenly understood everything. No wonder Winnie had confidently said that there might be a turning point for Jeremy and Olivia. She had been working on this all along? And the turning point was Mia?!
"No wonder you're so good at this, Winnie. Olivia is lucky to have a friend like you."
Winnie rolled her eyes at Ray. "It's not about hiding things. This has to be handled carefully. Until we get close to the truth, we can't tell anyone. Otherwise, it might alert the enemy. And if the result isn't what we hope for, how would Olivia handle it?"
Ray thought for a moment and agreed. Jeremy wouldn't handle it well either if it turned out to be false. Being cautious was the right approach. He was skeptical. "So, Sam's paternity test was fake?"
"Yeah, I have proof it was forged," Winnie said, squinting. "Lynn faked the test."
"Lynn again?" Ray sneered. "Jeremy really got the short end of the stick, getting mixed up with her three years ago. So, how are you gonna do this paternity test? It has to be discreet. If Lynn finds out, it could cause more trouble..."
"It's almost ready," Winnie said, aware that Lynn was already watching her.
She squinted. "So the test can't be done in Lymington. I'm not familiar with this place, but Lynn is. If she wants to tamper with it, it would be hard to prevent."
Ray understood, his eyes narrowing. "Then send it to Trento City! I'll go personally."
Winnie shook her head, looking at him. "I'll have Lena handle it in Trento City. Mr. Martin, you need to stay here. Olivia and Sam's wedding is in three days. I don't know if Jeremy will cause a scene... I need you to help keep things under control."
Ray had the status and the manpower to protect Olivia.
Ray nodded seriously. "Jeremy is missing and not talking. I can't get any information from him. That jerk, Olivia, might push him to the edge. I need to stay here to prevent any trouble. Can the test be done in three days?"
"Hopefully, if everything goes smoothly," Winnie said, gripping the hair tightly as she drove away.
The next day, Sam barged into Olivia's house and dragged her out.
"Come with me to buy a wedding dress. We're getting the marriage certificate this afternoon!" He forced Olivia into the car.
Olivia was stunned. They were really getting married...
Her eyes were almost lifeless as she clutched the car door, but eventually, she let go. Without completing this transaction, she wouldn't get the rest of the antidote.
She closed her eyes, clutching her stomach, feeling physically sick. Even breathing the same air as Sam made her feel disgusted.
"Smile for me, damn it." Sam seemed to notice her disgust, grabbing her face and forcing her to look at him. He raised an eyebrow, his voice cold and mocking. "I heard Jeremy and Lynn are also trying on wedding dresses today. If we run into them, don't look like you're about to cry and embarrass me! At least pretend to be happy, or I'll hit you."
Olivia bit her tongue, the pain making her feel like she was suffocating.
Her cold, dazed eyes stared blankly... Could Jeremy be so eager to schedule his wedding on the same day as theirs?
What did he mean by that? Was he trying to disgust her on purpose, or was it Lynn's idea to outshine her?
Her heart tightened, making it hard to breathe.
Sam watched her in pain, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "No matter how much you like Jeremy, he's a man you don't deserve! Stop dreaming. You're lucky I'm willing to marry you. Just serve me well, or you'll suffer."
Sam shook his head, feeling quite pleased with himself.
