Chapter 41 Please Him
Frustrated, Winnie bit on her lip. "Hmph!"
Ava seemed to find it hilarious and disdainfully said, "So, he didn't come to save you, huh, Winnie? Today, you've fallen from grace. Even the hoodlum doesn't want you anymore. How pitiful. Manager, why don't you throw them out?"
Jeremy caught up in a few steps. "Mr. L, are you so mad till the point that you don't even care for the child?"
The man shot him a cold glance.
Jeremy understood and immediately turned around with a smile.
The security guards grabbed Winnie and Olivia. Ava hinted to Victoria and the debutantes to push and shove Winnie, causing her to fall.
As a chilling wind tore through the scene, Jeremy erupted and shoved the women aside. As he went through, he shouted, "Let go of those two ladies!"
Ava was knocked to the side. She didn't recognize Jeremy and thought he was just another nobody associated with the hoodlum.
She immediately arrogantly said, "Who do you think you are, daring to bump into me? Manager, don't let them go. Throw them out, alongside this man as well."
Jeremy grew impatient and said, "Manager, what are you doing?"
The manager grew visibly frightened as Mr. Jeremy was a formidable figure, and a close associate of the big boss. He was not someone to be trifled with. Despite having previously praised Ava, the manager now found her unbearable.
He immediately called the security guards to surround Ava and Victoria and reprimanded them. "Why aren't you taking action? Kick them out!"
"What did you say?" Ava was dumbfounded. "Is there something wrong with your brain, Manager? I am a VIP of this club, the daughter of the Anderson family. How dare you—"
Seeing their refusal to cooperate, the security guards grabbed Ava and Victoria. They dragged the two women toward the staircase adorned with the club's lavish carpet and subsequently threw them down the stairs.
Ava tripped and tumbled, her hair and attire disheveled.
In a rather embarrassing moment, Victoria who was wearing high heels, awkwardly descended to the first floor.
The rich merchants and debutantes on the entire floor watched this amusing scene, some even took their phones out to film it.
Ava's face turned pale with rage.
Victoria who was a celebrity, quickly covered her face and screamed at Ava.
“Don't be afraid!"
In that instant, Olivia positioned herself on the staircase, casting a cold gaze at Victoria. She sneered in anger. "Victoria, is this the person you attempted to win favor from?"
Victoria suddenly turned around and saw Winnie, her face cold and even more displeased.
Jeremy smiled at Winnie and said, "Ms. Winnie."
A simple "thank you" escaped Winnie's lips, her eyes drawn to the bespectacled man she had met at the hospital. His pair of charming eyes, once so welcoming, was now arched with a hint of intrigue, a veiled edge that danced between refinement and menace.
"Mr. L is having dinner in the room. Would you like to go and have dinner with him?" Jeremy asked.
Winnie immediately shook her head, thinking of the man who had ignored the person in distress earlier.
"No, thank you."
However, Olivia had already figured it out. The masked man was none other than Winnie's mysterious husband. A wave of suspicion washed over her, mingled with a strange sense of excitement.
She immediately grabbed Winnie and smiled. "Why not? You and your husband can eat together."
"I'm hungry," she said, pulling Winnie into Mr. L's room.
Upon entering, Olivia fell silent in the face of the chilling air. After a moment, she raised her gaze and with a smile, complimented, "You must be the renowned Mr. L, am I correct? Winnie never stops singing your praises in my ear. Your reputation precedes you, and you exude true handsomeness and elegance, carrying the air of a king!"
The private room was hushed, reminiscent of a still pond undisturbed by ripples.
Olivia played with her phone and said, "Winnie, quickly say hello."
Winnie stood frozen, lips pursed, feeling awkward all over.
Jeremy cleared his throat and pulled out a chair for her, "Ms. Winnie, please sit. Manager, bring the menu." The manager courteously presented two copies, conveniently placing them in the hands of both Winnie and the man.
"Order a few light dishes as you please," the man spoke up with a deep and magnetic voice. His handsome figure leaned against the chair with his back straight and legs crossed but his complexion was as cold as frost.
Jeremy smirked and glanced at Winnie. "Ms. Winnie, order a few dishes that you both like."
Winnie took the menu and aroused some appetite. "Let's have some grilled lamb chops, Basque cake..."
In an instant, Olivia snatched the menu away as if she wanted to shut Winnie's mouth and chuckled. "Winnie, I assumed your preferences were quite simple, just like Mr. L. Besides, you've been in a bad mood these days and couldn't eat at home. What's with the sudden appetite?"
Olivia gave her a warning, glaring forcefully at the man.
"What does Mr. L have to do with this? And my bad mood doesn't mean I don't deserve a decent meal." Winnie quickly glanced at the cold and gloomy man from the corner of her eye. She was slightly frustrated that she had to pretend to be obedient and cater to his preferences.
Olivia pinched her under the table. Winnie winced at the sudden pain and glared at Olivia before she proceeded to order a few light dishes.
Jeremy observed their actions and found them cute. He couldn't help but smile. Looking up, Mr. L had no expression on his face and seemed to be enveloped in coldness. It seemed that he wasn't pleased.
In this incredibly stifling atmosphere, the four of them had an unsettlingly and unsatisfying meal.
The tall man rose, his dignified and cool demeanor evident as he fastened the buttons of his suit. Jeremy asked, "Which private room should we go to?"
He replied in a cold tone, "Any will do."
He didn't even glance at Winnie. Winnie has had enough of his indifference and wanted to leave.
Olivia immediately asked Jeremy, "Is there other plans?"
"A card game," Jeremy immediately spoke up and after thinking for a moment, he added, "Mr. L is in a bad mood. Ms. Winnie, I suggest for you to come and play cards with him to cheer him up."
The man gave Jeremy a cold gaze, and then he left. Winnie arched her eyebrow and glanced at his imposing and distant figure.
"Playing cards sounds good, Winnie. You're the best at playing cards, right?" Olivia instigated from the side.
Jeremy smirked. "Oh? Then, I must compete with Ms. Winnie to see who is better. I'll see you guys at Room 2033."
"What are you doing? Can't you see that he dislikes us?" Winnie said angrily as she looked at Olivia.
"Deciphering a man's thoughts can be challenging, especially when he wears a mask. Mr. L is enigmatic and profound. It's no surprise you find him irresistible," Olivia said with a sly smile on her face.
"Who said I can't resist him?" Winnie said coldly.
"Then, why were you jealous of that phone call?" Olivia chuckled.
Winnie turned her head and Olivia quickly surrendered. "I mean, he did save us after all."
"It was Mr. Jeremy who saved us."
"But Mr. Jeremy wouldn't have come back to save us without Mr. L's consent. Besides, he even scolded us." Olivia pushed her. "Although it's a fake marriage, quarreling with him takes a toll on your mood. I think you should make amends with Mr. L first before dealing with Ava. Maybe he can help you too since he's so rich."
Before Winnie could retort, Olivia pulled her, and they entered Room 2033.
It was a huge and luxurious poker room with carpets made of high-quality cashmere. Winnie was forcibly ushered into the room, finding it filled with numerous men and provocatively dressed women.
She immediately saw Mr. L who was sitting on the sofa, surrounded by women.
For some reason, that scene made her feel suffocated.
She wasn't wrong about him that he was indeed promiscuous. He must have been playing around these days.
Winnie had just thought that Olivia made some sense earlier. But at this moment, all she wanted to do was to turn around and leave. She felt so unjustly treated that her eyes welled up with tears.
