Chapter 221 Encounter at the Bridal Shop
Is reconciliation really no longer possible? He is determined to get engaged and will marry Darcy soon. As for her, she needs to continue to cooperate with Rock, acting. Lost in her thoughts, she was interrupted by her phone rang again. It was Rock. Winnie answered.
"Hello Mr. Harrington."
"It would be best if you call me 'Rock' from now on, alright?" His warm voice carried a hint of magnetism as he smiled, "Are you at home? If you have some free time, get ready. I'm sending someone to pick you up and take you to the bridal shop. My mother has been calling me early this morning, I'm quite helpless."
Winnie remembered Rock mentioning that Mrs. Harrington wanted to meet her while pretending to look at wedding dresses. Even if she didn't have the time, she had to make time for it.
Winnie replied, "Alright, I just finished my work here."
After hanging up the phone, she put on sunglasses and discreetly handed Taylor a bag, who concealed the medicine deep inside her coat and bid her farewell. Winnie waited on the side of the road, until the car sent by Rock arrived.
She stepped into the largest bridal shop in Lymington, and there stood Rock's tall figure, waiting for her. Taking the small bag from her hand, he gently pulled her closer, his hand resting on her round waist.
"The apartment is quite far from here. It must have been tiring for you to come by car, right?"
Winnie shook her head and looked into his clear apricot eyes, asking, "Where's your mother?"
"Mrs. Harrington is a respected lady. Even if she wants to see her 'daughter-in-law' so early in the morning, she will compose herself and never arrive first. She's probably going around in circles on the road now," he laughed as he responded to her.
Winnie couldn't help but laugh at his description. She could imagine the old lady being both antique and mischievous. Just like her own mother, she could act like a child whether she was happy or sad, often teasing Lawrence R.
She froze, her emotions sinking. Rock looked at her changing face, likening to the weather in June. He could almost guess what she was thinking. A woman full of stories, she was beautiful and captivating just with a single glance.
Rock had to admit that Winnie hadn't really done anything, but she made him more and more focused and deeply involved. His adam's apple bobbed, as he held her hand with a smile in his eyes.
"While we wait for Madam Rodriguez, shall I show you around? Apart from the wedding dresses, I found some other interesting things here."
Winnie wanted to pull her hand away, but there were assistants behind him and the bridal shop manager next to him. She couldn't embarrass him. So she could only go along with him, "What interesting things?"
"Baby cribs." He led her towards a large floor-to-ceiling window.
In this bridal shop with full-service facilities, there were not only baby cribs but also miniature pianos and beautiful, stylish baby clothes. As someone who was soon to become a mother, Winnie couldn't take her eyes off these things.
She couldn't help but smile and say, "Mr. Harrington, why did you choose such a comprehensive bridal shop?"
Rock's eyes flickered and he warmly replied, "It was recommended by others. After all, it's the largest shop in town. Come, let's take a look at this crib.”
He pointed to the exquisite little crib nearby, teasing, "Quite spacious, suitable for accommodating twins. Why don't you ask the baby if they like it?"
"How can they answer?" Winnie was speechless. As she touched her round belly, even though it was big, her waist remained slim like a young girl's.
Rock glanced at her waistline and his gaze subtly deepened. He walked over, gracefully crouched down, his face positioned in front of Winnie's belly, and asked seriously, "Dear little baby, do you prefer blue or pink? You can tell me, I'm listening."
Winnie's mouth twitched, feeling helpless. "Mr. Harrington, please stop joking around."
"Didn't I mention it on the phone? Today, it's better for you to call me Rock, so my mother won't be suspicious.”
“Can you contact her now?" The man raised an eyebrow.
His gaze was focused. Winnie felt embarrassed, her face turning slightly red. She tried to avoid his eyes and said awkwardly, "I'll call her later."
"Your mother is so shy that she won't even call me by my name. Have you made your choice?" He didn’t push, but rather leaned in, pretending to listen attentively.
Winnie was doubtful, but then her belly really moved. Rock burst into laughter and pointed at her belly, saying, “Alright, I got it. Blue, a boy.”
Winnie thought he was talking nonsense, but his playful nature amused her. Her cherry lips curved slightly, and she said, "Mr. Harrington, please get up quickly!"
“True, this position does resemble a proposal.” He made a joke.
The assistant beside them chuckled, and the manager of the bridal store praised, "This young lady is so lucky. Her boyfriend always tries to make her happy."
Winnie felt awkward and avoided eye contact. As she turned her gaze, she suddenly froze.
Following the direction of the woman's gaze, Rock saw a cold and imposing figure standing in the VIP area in the distance.
Rock narrowed his eyes slightly, seemingly unsurprised. There was still a hint of a smile in his eyes. Lawrence R's face had turned incredibly cold, his pupils like icy ponds, and a raging fury burned within him.
Seeing her walking hand in hand with Rock, looking at baby cribs together, with that wild man squatting in front of her belly, speaking affectionately to their child, the woman became shy and awkward. It seemed like she regarded them both as the father and mother, shopping for their child together.
His hand clenched into a fist in his pocket, making a faint creaking sound. Watching them he didn’t want to admit it, but his heart made a subtle twitching sound. He sneered and lifted the corners of his mouth mockingly. His gaze was like a sharp sword, noticing the blush on her face after she encountered him.
Not only was she heartless, but she even let Rock play the role of the child's father and eagerly engage in affectionate exchanges. What an adulterous couple, are they truly happy?
A cold air suddenly enveloped the entire room. The store manager trembled inexplicably, while Darcy received a multi-million diamond dress and asked with a smile, "Mr. L, do you think this one suits me?"
After waiting for a while without a response, she turned her head. She saw the man staring fixedly at Winnie. Darcy paused, realizing how narrow the road of enemies was. However, she couldn't help but notice the dark expression on his face when he saw Rock squatting in front of the woman's belly.
With a captivating smile, she hooked her arm into Lawrence R's and pressed her delicate body against his.
"Mr. L, Miss Anderson and Mr. Harrington are here too. Could it be that they found out we were here and came to show off their affection on purpose? We can't let that slide. Look at how perfect they seem!"
Lawrence R averted his gaze, crushed his cigarette butt, and gave a faint smirk. "How can you tell just by looking? Go on, show me."
Darcy blushed and coyishly said, “Mr. L, you’re so naughty, making me feel embarrassed.”
"Miss Ordelia, this way please." The wedding dress manager led the way politely, while three or four staff members held the dresses and attentively served behind Darcy.
Winnie saw the scene unfolding in front of her, and her previous tension waned slightly. She scoffed at herself for worrying if he had seen her entering with Rock while holding hands, and if he would misunderstand anything.
It was a moment of awakening. How ridiculous. She couldn't even free herself from her own entanglements, so what did it matter if he misunderstood? Furthermore, did he even care about these things?
He sat regally on the sofa, patiently waiting for Darcy to try on dresses, his handsome appearance almost ethereal. Yet, it was also piercing to the heart. At the moment, they seemed like a matched couple.
"Winnie, my mother has arrived," Rock pulled her hand gently as a reminder.
