Chapter 959 Fetal Protection
Winnie glanced at Olivia, who hadn't touched a bite since the wedding yesterday. "Hey, go grab a bowl of porridge, some chicken soup, and a fruit platter," she said.
Jeremy hesitated, frowning. The place that sold porridge was pretty far from here.
He didn't want to leave Mia, so he asked Winnie, "Can't we get something else?"
"No," Winnie replied, eyeing his handsome face. "It's not just for me; it's for Olivia and me."
Jeremy was even more puzzled. "Why does she need such nourishing food?"
She said she had a miscarriage. Shouldn't she be detoxing? Porridge and chicken soup seemed more like something for prenatal care. Jeremy didn't quite get it. His feelings were a mix of confusion and cold detachment, not wanting to dwell on her losing someone else's child.
Winnie shot him a glare, "Just go get it, you big dummy."
Jeremy glanced at Olivia, who hadn't turned around. Her long, delicate hair hid her expression.
He walked out of the hospital room, a cigarette dangling between his slender fingers, and he started smoking in the hallway. The nurses passing by eyed this handsome, slightly sinister man with glasses but didn't dare to stop him. He looked deeply troubled, his aura cold.
At six in the morning, Yasmin rushed over from the cardiology department.
"What happened? I heard from the nurses that the hospital admitted a little girl last night, and the emergency room was in chaos. When I asked, it turned out to be Mia! Olivia, Mia was kidnapped, and you didn't tell me?"
Yasmin hurried into the room, seeing Mia unconscious, her already haggard face even paler.
"Mom... Mia's fine. The doctor said she's not in any danger."
Olivia stood up to support Yasmin, trying to downplay the situation. "She's just exhausted and fell asleep."
"Is she really okay? Winnie!" Yasmin didn't quite believe it and looked at Winnie.
Winnie had to lie, "Mrs. Smith, Mia did suffer some injuries and fell asleep."
Yasmin stood by the bed, feeling weak, staring at Mia's bruised little face. Two tears fell, "What is happening to us? So many things have gone wrong."
"Mom, how's Dad doing?"
Olivia was exhausted, having spent the night searching for Mia. She vaguely remembered Ray mentioning that Jeremy had forced Lynn to hand over the remaining half of the antidote, which they delivered to Evergreen Hospital last night.
She suddenly remembered and felt anxious. "Mom, did Dad take the antidote?"
Yasmin nodded, feeling relieved. "Thank goodness for Mr. DeRoss! Last night, your dad was in the worst condition, and I couldn't find you. I knew you had a big incident at the wedding...
Luckily, at seven in the evening, Mr. DeRoss brought the antidote. He handed it to the cardiology experts and talked with the doctors. Later, your dad took it, and by midnight, he showed signs of life. The doctors said he was improving.
Winnie found a perfect heart organ, right?
The doctors said we couldn't delay. Taking advantage of your dad's recovery, they performed the heart transplant surgery overnight!
But there was a problem just now. The operating room issued a critical condition notice. I couldn't understand the details, and then I heard you brought Mia to the hospital, so I came over to find Winnie!"
"Mrs. Yasmin Smith!" Winnie stood up immediately. "I understand. Don't worry, I'll go to the cardiology operating room with you to check on Mr. Jake Smith's condition!"
"Yes! You're a skilled doctor too. I want to ask the doctors to let you into the operating room to check on Jake!" Yasmin said, exhausted.
"I'll talk to the doctors." Winnie grabbed her bag.
Olivia was also anxious, following them to the door. "Mom, I'll go see Dad too..."
"No, you stay here with Mia."
Yasmin and Winnie spoke simultaneously. Winnie sternly reminded, "Jeremy isn't here right now, and we can't be careless with the care. Don't forget Mia was just kidnapped. Lynn's family hasn't been brought to justice yet! Leave your dad to me."
Olivia bit her lip, feeling anxious, afraid she wouldn't see Jake if things worsened.
Winnie seemed to see through her fragile heart. "He'll be fine... Mr. Smith will be okay! Besides, Evergreen Hospital is the best in Lymington, and Jeremy has brought in many experts. Mr. Smith's heart transplant has a high chance of success."
Despite these reassurances, Olivia knew the risks remained.
Tears welled up in her eyes as she turned to see Mia still unconscious, feeling waves of sorrow.
So much had happened recently—Jake was harmed, she had a miscarriage, and Mia faced disaster. This family was falling apart, all because of Lynn, Sam... and Darcy!
Cold hatred surged in her eyes as she clenched her palms tightly. Lynn... this time, she must meet her end.
At seven o'clock, the doctor came for rounds and changed Mia's medication.
Olivia watched as Mia's small hand was swollen from the IV needle, her breathing weak, still showing no signs of waking up. She was heartbroken and helpless. "Doctor, why isn't my daughter waking up? Could there be other hidden dangers you haven't detected?"
The doctor carefully examined the patient's records. Knowing she was Jeremy's daughter, who would dare to be negligent?
But he couldn't find anything unusual. "The child's blood tests, brain scans, and abdominal organ checks show no issues. The only thing left is the digestive tract check, which requires the patient to wake up so we can take samples to ensure she hasn't swallowed any foreign objects or drugs.
But for now, the child doesn't seem to have major problems. A 24-hour coma period is within the normal range. Please be patient."
It had already been 10 hours.
Olivia had no choice but to wait minute by minute.
After the consultation, the doctor left the room.
The room was a private luxury suite, clean and spacious. For Mia's sake, Olivia hadn't turned on the air conditioning. The weather was getting hot as summer approached, and she was sweating profusely.
Her stomach twisted in pain; she was very hungry.
But Jeremy hadn't returned yet, and the place he went to was far from Evergreen Hospital.
Feeling sticky and uncomfortable, Olivia looked down in a daze, realizing she was still wearing her wedding dress.
Yesterday, Jeremy had taken her away, and Louis almost killed her at the beach villa. She had been running around all night, and her dress was wrinkled and stained. Sweat mixed with the dirt on her neck and chest, making her feel suffocated and uncomfortable.
Maybe it was because of the miscarriage, but she had been sweating a lot and feeling unusually hungry these past two days.
Seeing Mia still unconscious, Olivia forced herself to go to the bathroom to freshen up.
