Chapter 58 Finding Evidence
Olivia grabbed the menu and glanced up as she noticed Winnie's phone ringing.
To her surprise, it was a call from the Director of Triton, who had reached out privately to Winnie. She immediately stood up to answer.
Upon her return, Olivia eagerly pointed to the news headlines.
"Ava's plagiarism scandal is intensifying, dragging down Triton's stocks."
"The Anderson family's stocks took another nosedive today."
"Are Triton's shareholders in a state of unrest?"
Winnie nodded and smiled. "Ava was supported by the Anderson family all this time. Now that a big scandal has emerged, I know Triton's shareholders. They are not fools. With the Anderson family's decline and Triton's instability, the shareholders are very concerned about their interests."
"So, they reached out to the former CEO of Triton?" Olivia asked.
"Indeed, many shareholders had no idea. For all these years, Ava copied my work. Now they all know who the truly talented one is."
Just as they were speaking, another Triton shareholder called.
This was promising news. Winnie answered the call patiently. This was the sign that she was waiting for in order to reclaim Triton.
After concluding the call, Olivia enthusiastically raised her laptop and called out to Winnie, "Winnie, per your intriguing request from last night, someone trailed Lily. You're truly clever! Care to guess on the valuable information Lily has unveiled for us?"
Winnie looked at her excitedly and sat down, turning her attention to Olivia's laptop.
It was a real-time long-distance location tracker that depicted Lily's movements just as Winnie had instructed.
After successfully climbing up to Matthew's position, Lily was bound to have information.
-
"This news made me feel a little worried for them," said Matthew to his mother.
His mother started to blabble. "What's the deal with that guy who’s causing a plagiarism scandal and losing money? I always said Sophia was bad luck. She was bound to ruin the Anderson family."
"All right, Mom, that's enough." Matthew impatiently looked at his picky mother.
His mother replied, "Why can't I share a few opinions about her? She bewitched you when you were just a youth! I understand my son all too well. Apart from the meager inheritance your father left, all our wealth is..."
She fell silent, cast a glance at the fuming Matthew, and then anxiously added. "And she even egged you on to harm Winnie, my dear. Don't be too harsh on her.
"Her mother and grandfather were an unexpected joy for us back then. Even if your connection was built on pretenses, you shouldn't vent it on the innocent child. I get that you despise Winnie, but it has summoned her mother's spirit to haunt us."
"Enough!" Matthew erupted in anger, contorting his face.
He clenched his fists and quickly left the villa in his car.
Lily, who was hiding behind a tree, saw Matthew take out a pocket watch that he had always carried with him. There was also a photo nestled inside of it.
Matthew looked at the woman in the photo, who bore a striking resemblance to Winnie.
That was Winnie's mother, a woman he couldn't attain and ultimately destroyed with the help of external forces.
Back at the restaurant, Winnie checked the time. It was already two o'clock in the afternoon.
She hurriedly called Taylor at the villa inquiring when Mr. L would leave.
Olivia raised her lips and asked, "What do we do next?"
"We'll tail Mr. L. If he goes to the Imperial Building for 'work', then we'll have our confirmation!"
The two of them seemed like detectives now, fully armed and having switched cars. They quickly caught up with the Bentley that had just left the villa estate.
Inside the Bentley, Luke noticed that the CEO seemed exhausted and gloomy. Perhaps Ms. Winnie refused to let him into the bedroom last night.
The CEO hadn't slept for days.
Suddenly, the man in the back seat spoke, "Who's car is that behind us?"
Only then did Luke notice a Mercedes was secretly following them.
Luke apologized for not noticing and said, "Sir, I wasn't aware of the car following us. I'll immediately arrange for someone to intercept it."
"Hold on." Lawrence opened his eyes. His interest was piqued as he gazed at the car for a moment. He suddenly made a call to the villa.
Taylor answered, "Ms. Winnie did make a phone call... she asked me what car you were driving today and what time you would be going to work."
The man's eyes narrowed slightly, and a tantalizing smile curved his thin lips.
"Let it continue to follow us."
"Is Ms. Winnie in that Mercedes? Is she following you in a different car?" Luke exclaimed in surprise.
The man lowered his gaze, his eyes hidden by his lashes. He propped his chin up with one hand, a mysterious smile playing on his lips. "We won't go to Imperial anymore, just drive around the overpass."
Luke found it amusing that this man he called his boss, suddenly seemed relaxed while spying on Ms. Winnie, which was quite a mischievous thing to do.
It is uncertain whether he was playing games with Winnie, be it good or bad, but Luke seemed to have a hunch as to why his boss decided to not go to Imperial and instead asked him to drive around the overpass.
Luke wondered whether the identity of Mr. L cannot be concealed anymore
