Chapter 856 When a Man Loves a Woman

Winnie took a breath and explained somewhat speechlessly, "How could I possibly let him install surveillance cameras in the bedroom right under my nose?"

Lawrence looked at her, "What about the bathroom?"

"Of course not!"

Winnie blushed and felt completely embarrassed, "If there were cameras, could I still live there?"

"You never told me about such a big thing."

Lawrence suddenly turned the steering wheel, his thin lips tight.

Winnie was thrown by his sudden movement, her soft long hair brushing against her face. She peeked at his gloomy profile through the strands, "What are you so angry about, Lawrence?"

"You tell me what I'm angry about." He retorted, his tone still suppressed but relatively gentle. "If I had known you were living under his surveillance, I would never have allowed you to stay in that villa! Winnie, if he had spied on you while you were bathing, I would gouge out his eyes!"

Winnie was silent for a moment.

Her heart raced.

She suddenly saw the emotional turmoil in his deep, calm eyes; he wasn't just saying it.

She curled her fingers and frowned, explaining, "Are you crazy? He really didn't. I'm not that clueless about self-protection!"

Lawrence scoffed, "If you knew how to protect yourself, how did you almost get strangled and poisoned by him that night? I never want to experience that fear again. I hate myself for not knowing that you insisted on staying by Rock's side, actually enduring great danger."

"You shouldn't keep it from me. If Olivia and Jeremy hadn't returned in time that night, and if Oscar hadn't seen something wrong and told me immediately... Do you know what Rock would have done to you?"

"I would never allow him to touch even a hair on you, not even a glance, without making him pay tenfold!"

Winnie stared at his icy, strong features. After the intense emotional shock, what remained was a warm, throbbing heartbeat.

She clenched her palm, telling herself not to be swayed by his few words.

Winnie deliberately pursed her lips, looking at his furrowed, gloomy brows, and said, "In any case, I resolved the whole matter in the end, and thank you for your help and effort during this time."

"What do you mean?" Lawrence turned his head again.

Winnie felt his tone grow colder.

She carefully chose her words, wanting to say something to draw a line.

But before she could speak, Lawrence suddenly turned the steering wheel, urgently stopping the Rolls-Royce by the roadside. His tall figure leaned towards her!

Winnie, strapped in by the seatbelt, had nowhere to hide.

A shadow covered her face, and she reached out to push him away, "Lawrence, what are you doing?"

"Want to teach you a lesson." He smirked wickedly.

He looked cold and somewhat fierce.

Winnie muttered, "If you want to teach me, don't get so close!"

"So you think you deserve a lesson, huh? Winnie." His large hand brushed over, lightly grazing her soft cheek, leaving a startling shiver.

Winnie couldn't help but shudder, completely embarrassed and angry, "Helping me was your choice. If you didn't want to, what happened to the Blanchet Group in the end would have nothing to do with you. What right do you have to teach me now?"

"Don't you get it?" Lawrence pressed his forehead against her brow, leaving only a low sigh, his tone very helpless, "I like you too much. I would never let you suffer for the sake of business or profit, not even a little."

"I would never let you wait in grievance, waiting for me to rise again. Even if I were in rags and down and out, I would fight desperately for you, Winnie. A man loving a woman is his instinct. I don't need your thanks. If possible, Winnie, I hope you and the kids..."

He must be about to say he wanted to get back together with her.

Winnie's heart raced, her eyes wide as she looked at his incredibly handsome face.

She couldn't let him say it now.

She didn't want to answer that question right now either.

Winnie suddenly pushed away his lips that were about to kiss her. In the moment of passion, Lawrence's eyes were full of deep affection, but one hand completely blocked his urgent declaration, and he kissed her soft palm instead.

"Damn." Lawrence wanted to curse.

"Stay away from me, don't push your luck." Winnie pouted and warned, her face flushed red.

"Okay." Lawrence stared at her gloomily, his deep eyes seemingly drowning her. Finally, he kissed her palm hard before letting go a little.

Winnie's blush had already spread from her cheeks to her neck.

She leaned back to calm her heartbeat, pressing against the seat, her mind churning while she tried to appear calm.

In the narrow, ambiguous space, she struggled to find her voice, "Rock has already been punished. We can watch him fall step by step. Don't act impulsively now; it will give people something to talk about. The Rodriguez Group's products have just been introduced, and they need to be steadily sold after launch."

He asked, "Are you concerned about me? Worried about our Rodriguez Group?"

"I'm not!" Winnie denied flatly, feeling he was setting a trap for her, "What do you mean 'our Rodriguez Group'? I don't want it."

"Winnie, as Olivia said, even if you don't want to now, I'll wait for you. Besides, we're allies on the same front now, don't draw such a clear line."

Winnie raised an eyebrow and sneered, "Of course, I have to draw a clear line. You haven't risen yet. If you fall again someday, I don't want people to think we're closely related. I need to protect myself."

"Who saved the Blanchet Group?" Lawrence pinched her.

Of course, he knew she was just saying it to provoke him.

He understood how soft-hearted Winnie was.

Especially since, all along, she had been very soft-hearted towards him.

Lawrence's thin lips curved. "Come with me to Grandma's house? Sidney and Oscar miss you, but they can't bear to leave their great-grandma after just a couple of days. Don't make it hard for them."

Winnie hesitated.

What would it mean to go to his house? It would be unclear.

She couldn't just agree happily, but she had no reason to refuse if she wanted to see the kids.

So, she tacitly agreed.

Lawrence, in a good mood, immediately started the car.

Winnie suddenly asked him, "Rock was beaten up at The Serene Haven Hotel construction site. Do you know about this?"

"Is that so? Maybe the workers didn't like him. That's good."

Winnie turned her head, her eyes fixed on him, "But Mr. Darden said a lot of reporters suddenly showed up to interview him. How did the reporters know he was at the construction site?"

"Not sure." He didn't admit it.

Winnie didn't let it go, pointing at his prominent nose, "Was it you?"

He didn't speak.

Winnie looked down at the unbearable photos of Rock again, feeling a chill. She looked at the nonchalant Lawrence beside her and clicked her tongue, "You really are scheming!"

Lawrence pressed his lips lightly, "Did you forget he almost destroyed my body? What I did to him is just a small thing. If it weren't for him, I would have been with you long ago, spending every night together."

Winnie shivered inside. Lawrence had planned to ruin Rock from the beginning, and he called it a small thing. Too ruthless.

But then she realized the implication of his last words, and her face instantly flushed crimson. What was this shameless man talking about?

"Lawrence, shut up." She glared at him angrily.
