Chapter 80 Not Allowed to Get a Caregiver for Her

Winnie shivered all over, feeling as though she had been doused with a bucket of cold water, her eyes turning red from the sting.

Her lips trembled, her face pale, she couldn't understand why he was so furious and picking a fight with her. She was already exhausted.

Trembling slightly, she nodded and coldly smiled, "Alright, I'm a despicable woman. I'm tired. I've experienced too much tonight; I don't want to argue with you anymore. And you... came very late."

Bitterness spread at the tip of her heart; the subtle pain more piercing than her physical injuries.

"Mr. L, don't stoop to his level. Your mouth is injured," Darcy finally spoke up.

Panicked, Darcy rushed over and when she saw Winnie attempting to help L while supporting Daniel, she knew she was in for a show tonight.

Suppressing her excitement, she worriedly supported L. His gaze grew colder, and even as an outsider, Darcy could tell that Winnie had made a foolish move by helping Daniel!

He glared at the damnable woman in front of him, and when he noticed the men's sweater she was wearing, his anger exploded once more.

With long strides, he walked over and without hesitation, grabbed her arm and tugged at the sweater, "Whose damn clothes are you wearing?"

"L, don't touch me..." Winnie's face turned even paler.

"I can't touch you? Who can, him?" The man's fury grew, tightening his grip on her wrist.

Winnie could only feel her arm about to break. The pain was so intense that she couldn't even speak.

"Have you gone mad? Don't you dare touch her! Do you know what she went through in prison...?” Daniel attempted to get up, filled with anger and defiance.

Darcy kicked Daniel in the shin, causing him so much pain that he couldn't finish his sentence.

She ran over to Winnie, her face filled with worry, and said to L, "Mr. L, please be gentle. Mrs. L might have gotten hurt in the detention center."

Upon hearing Darcy's words, L looked at the woman's face, which was indeed a bit paler, but he didn't see any visible injuries.
His complexion immediately grew even colder. Darcy was undoubtedly making excuses for her.

She had just said that Winnie was only admitted to the hospital due to fright.

But could this mentality possibly explain why she and Daniel were cozying up in the restroom?

Overwhelmed by anger, his rationality left him. The thought that she believed it was Daniel who had saved her caused a crack to form deep within L's gaze.

"What kind of injury could she have? She seems perfectly fine to me! She was too busy in the restroom and couldn't pick up when I called!" A trace of coldness appeared in L's eyes.

Winnie's heart turned cold upon hearing his tone.

A woman who had been charged with a crime and could fight well wouldn't necessarily have visible injuries on her face. Bruises could be hidden where they couldn't be seen. Was he blind?

She had been in pain tonight, being beaten while carrying his child, frightened, slandered, sitting motionless in the interrogation room for four or five hours without water while hoping for him to come.

How much she had longed for him to descend from the heavens once more, just like at the charity banquet...

But he hadn't come. And even those first two calls she made, he didn't answer them either, did he? And now, he leisurely arrived with Darcy.

Thinking of this, all the grievances and the tension that had built up throughout the night broke.

Summoning her strength, Winnie forcefully pushed him away, her eyes moist, she roared, "Yeah, I'm perfectly fine, your child is perfectly fine! I'm not in pain at all, I was just so busy in the restroom, busy throwing up in darkness..."

Damn it, it was her first episode of morning sickness, and she wanted to share it with him, to let the father support her.

Damn it, he was late, and he even misunderstood her for having an affair.

She was a debutante, like Winnie, who had never been subjected to such humiliation from him before.

"If I'm a bitch, you're an asshole. You have no idea how desperate I was feeling. I don't even want to ask what you were busy with tonight. Why didn't you answer my calls? Why did you keep ignoring me...?”

Her gaze swept over Darcy and him standing side by side, coldly smiling. "Now it seems like you don't have anything important going on."

Why would you bring your sister on a business trip? You came here to handle your own private matters, and you still bring your so-called sister?

"Fine, I don't have anything important to do," the man smirked coldly.

Veins pulsated on his forehead as his thin lips pursed into a mocking smile. "Winnie, you are a heartless woman."

The man turned around and walked away.

Darcy looked at Winnie with concern and patiently advised, "Mr. L, Mrs. L seems a bit weak. You can't just leave like this..."

"Weak? Did I weaken her by kissing her?" The man turned around, glancing at Daniel with a black and blue face. "Get lost!"

"Mr. L, at least hire a caregiver for Mrs. L," Darcy pleaded again.

"No one is allowed to hire anyone. Let her fend for herself!" L seethed with anger.

Winnie responded with a cold smile. Can't he see these medical devices? She didn't want to say anything anymore. She didn't want to watch him go mad.

Her body was trembling with pain, and her heart felt even colder. She clung to the wall, looking at Daniel and said, "You should go."

Daniel reluctantly pressed his lips together. He knew that staying here would not only result in him losing to this man but also make her suffer.

With a dark face, he got up and looked at her with concern, "Take care... And about Olivia, I'll look for her."

Winnie nodded wearily, her small face appearing even weaker in the dim light.

The room was as cold as snow.

She struggled to slowly make her way back. No doctors came in for a while, and the cup of water was empty. Winnie was thirsty and couldn't understand why this man was so cruel.

Didn't he care about the child she was carrying? With tears in her eyes, Winnie struggled to get up. She had no choice but to go outside and find hot water to drink.

In the corridor outside the ward, there were cigarette butts on the floor, and the smell of smoke was suffocating.

The nurses didn't dare to approach and advise the man wearing a silver mask, who exuded an imposing and noble aura, yet was as icy as the cold winter.

L didn't leave at all. Dammit.

He refused to allow her to have a caregiver, not because he was truly heartless, but only to force her to lower her head. She would need someone's help eventually.

Even he looked down on his own hypocritical words.

Darcy stood beside him the whole time; how could she not see the gloom in the man's eyes.

She tightly clenched her trembling fingers and suddenly sneezed. L seemed to notice that she hadn't left and looked her way.

Darcy quickly covered her nose, but then a few more sneezes followed, and her lips turned pale.

L frowned, finally realizing that she was soaked from head to toe.

He seemed to have just remembered that she had been drenched in the rain since London, running around with him all night. He never paid attention to that heartless woman in his mind.

The man felt slightly apologetic.

Darcy tremblingly stood up, her beautiful face with wet hair, shivering but still forcing a smile at him, she reassured him, "Mr. L, there might be a misunderstanding with Mrs. L and Daniel. Please don't be angry."

At this mention, a shadow swept over him.

He glanced at her with a frown, taking off a suit jacket from himself and handing it to her.

"Put it on and leave quickly. Thank you for your help tonight, Darcy. Don't follow me in these matters anymore."

"No trouble at all. I'm also worried about Mrs. L, and now I'm afraid you two will quarrel. Let me continue taking care of Mrs. L," the woman said gently.

L coldly refused, "Our affairs don't require your assistance."

Darcy tactfully didn't retort and reached out to take the clothes. However, her hand suddenly trembled, as if she couldn't manage to receive it.

L furrowed his brow and decided to spread the clothes out himself before draping them over her from a distance.

Winnie walked out of the ward, witnessing this scene with difficulty.
