Chapter 701 Winnie is Moving to Rock.
She waved her hand and turned back to the villa.
"Winnie," Lawrence called out, his voice all husky and dangerously sexy, "Thanks for the meds."
"No need to thank me. It's just a doctor's instinct," Winnie replied, sounding all indifferent.
Lawrence clenched his fist, speaking reluctantly, "You can be cold, but I know you decided not to press charges against me. Thanks, especially since I'm in a rough spot right now. And you had Sidney bring me the meds, hoping he'd wake me up. Sorry for letting you see me at my lowest. Won't happen again."
Winnie shot Sidney a glare and turned around, cutting him off, "Lawrence, you don't need to say all that. Don't overthink what Sidney told you. My decisions have nothing to do with you. I've said it before, even if I saw a beggar on the street, I'd still give them some meds out of kindness. Don't think everyone is as heartless as you."
She finished calmly, looking at his handsome face.
Lawrence's throat tightened, feeling a pang of sadness, thinking, 'Do her actions really have nothing to do with me? She even mocks me, saying I am overthinking. She'd give meds to a beggar on the street too. Winnie, your words really hurt me.'
He lowered his eyes and said, "Fine, but no matter what, you spared me and introduced me to a doctor. That's a comfort to me. You can deny it, but I rely on that comfort to keep going."
Winnie, annoyed, thought, 'Why can't he understand? Lawrence is persistent as ever. But at the same time, I feel a bit sorry for him. Does he have nothing else to hold on to in life?'
"Winnie," Lawrence wanted to say more.
"Honey, did you drop off our son? Breakfast is ready," Rock's affectionate voice suddenly came from the villa as he walked out.
Lawrence froze when he saw Rock in pajamas, clearly just woken up. Lawrence's eyes deepened with rage.
'Didn't Sidney say Winnie isn't sleeping with Rock yet? Rock spent the night here, and they are wearing matching pajamas. Isn't that cohabitation? Honey? Son? Winnie used to be my honey. And what right does Rock have to call Sidney his son?' Lawrence thought as his chest burned with anger, his eyes darkening.
Rock noticed his fury and smirked. He walked gracefully to Winnie, getting all close and intimate, "Mr. Rodriguez, you and Winnie are in the past. We agreed to let you pick up Sidney today, but that doesn't mean I'll allow you to harass Winnie. Also, I warn you, I used to tolerate your arrogance because of my lower status. But now, you're no longer the Mr. Rodriguez you once were. The Rodriguez Group can't compare to the Harrington Group. Know your place and stay away from Winnie, or else, don't blame me for being rude!"
His tone was sharp, and his warm eyes turned cold.
Lawrence let out a cold laugh, knowing Rock was threatening him. He sneered, "Rock, haven't you already used every trick against me? What more can you do? No matter how well you act, your flaws will show eventually. I'll settle the score for the things you've done to me."
His eyes were ice-cold, and the thought of his current powerlessness sent a shiver of fury down his spine.
Rock's eyes flickered, wondering if Lawrence knew it was him who had messed him up.
He kept a calm and helpless facade, saying, "Winnie, I only said I'd be rude to him to protect you. I haven't even started dealing with him, and he's already accusing me. He misunderstands me deeply."
Lawrence's sharp gaze turned to Winnie. She frowned, looking puzzled by his words but stayed calm.
His heart ached, thinking, 'Rock's playing his part perfectly. Now I finally get how Winnie felt when Darcy and Ishara were around me—hating and helpless. Now, Winnie is like I was back then, blind to Rock's true nature.'
"How long are you gonna keep talking?" Sidney rolled down the car window, poking his head out. Sensing the tension, he pretended to be impatient, "Rock, cut my dad some slack. He's the ex-husband, so don't flaunt your sweetness with Mom in front of him. And by the way, I'm only Lawrence's kid. I don't have that many dads."
Rock's face showed a fleeting trace of embarrassment. Sidney always spoke to him bluntly.
Lawrence felt a bit better hearing Sidney's words. Sidney was still on his side. He got into the car coldly, "Let's go."
As the car drove away, he saw in the rearview mirror Rock holding Winnie's hand, kissing her forehead, and then intending to kiss her lips. He gripped the steering wheel tightly, veins bulging, almost slamming on the brakes to stop them.
"Bad Dad, watch the road!" Sidney shouted, grabbing the handle in fright.
"Sorry," Lawrence snapped back to reality and slowed down.
"Even if you turn back now, what right do you have to stop Rock? He's doing it on purpose to provoke you!" Sidney voiced Lawrence's thoughts, "You always lose your cool when it comes to Mommy. You're not acting like a mature man. No wonder Mommy left you."
Though Sidney felt sorry for him, he couldn't help but point it out.
Lawrence's handsome face stiffened, and he muttered self-deprecatingly, "You're right."
Thinking back to every confrontation with Rock, he realized his anger only made things worse for Winnie, making her side with Rock and see him as unreasonable. He dejectedly slapped the steering wheel and hung his head.
Seeing Lawrence like this, Sidney felt bad and thought, 'But Mommy has married Rock, and there's no turning back now. Remembering what I overheard last night, I think Oscar and I will soon be kids without a home, living with Elliott.'
Sidney sighed.
"Sidney, why'd you suddenly sigh?" Lawrence asked, looking at the rearview mirror and noticing Sidney unhappy.
"I overheard Mommy agreeing to move in with Rock in the next couple of days," Sidney said, frustrated. "I could strongly oppose it and cause trouble, but I don't want to make Mommy sad. She's been putting it off for a long time, and she seems determined this time."
