Chapter 699 Olivia's Disappearance
He had no clue why he was growling. He stared at the woman bobbing on the sea, his head pounding, and he couldn't control himself.
The sailor whipped the yacht around in the opposite direction.
Olivia was over the moon.
'Wait, is someone on this yacht actually seeing me? They're coming my way. Maybe I won't die out here after all. But, what if they're pirates? Could they be robbers?' she thought, shivering and curling up tighter.
As the yacht got closer, she peered eagerly, her eyes going wide.
'The guy on the deck in the sea breeze looks kinda familiar. Is that... Jeremy?! Am I seeing things? But this is where he disappeared. Could it be?' Olivia thought.
She was totally floored, her heart racing. Tears welled up in her eyes as she stared at the yacht and shouted, "Jeremy, is that you?"
Dazzling Estate, at Olivia's villa.
Winnie had come back early from work, hanging out with Mia while waiting for Olivia.
'Olivia said she had something super important to tell me, and she sounded weird on the phone. But it's getting dark, and she's still not back,' she thought.
Suddenly, Winnie's phone buzzed.
It was a text from Olivia: [Winnie! I just found some clues about Jeremy's disappearance. I need to go to the factory, which is far from home. It might take a few days. Don't worry about me, and don't try to contact me. The signal is bad by the sea. Please take care of Mia for me!]
For a second, Winnie thought the text wasn't from Olivia. But the number was definitely hers.
'Wait, hasn't Olivia been all about telling me something? Why the sudden change of plans? Why go looking for clues about Jeremy now?'
Winnie, speechless, thought and immediately called her.
"Sorry, the number you have dialed is currently unavailable. Please try again later."
She tried twice more, but no luck.
Maybe the signal really was bad.
"Aunt Winnie, why hasn't my mommy come back yet? It's already dark." Mia, tired of playing with her dolls, walked over, looking upset.
Winnie picked her up and frowned, "Mia, did your mommy call the nanny today to say she was going far away?"
"No." Mia shook her head, "But mommy's been super busy these past few days, always coming back late."
'Could she have been busy looking for Jeremy? Did she suddenly find a clue and leave? But what was Olivia going to tell me?' Winnie was puzzled, feeling that Olivia's behavior today was really off. But Olivia definitely had her phone, so the text must have been from her.
With the signal out, she could only try to contact her tomorrow.
Winnie helplessly took Mia's hand and said, "Your mommy went to find Jeremy for you. I'll call her later. Even if she doesn't come back, she should at least say goodnight to you. Mia, you go to my house and play with Sidney and Oscar."
"Okay! I hope mommy finds daddy soon!" Mia's eyes sparkled.
'Jeremy... Daddy? Mia is really stuck on thinking Jeremy's her dad. Who knows why she likes him so much,' Winnie thought.
As they strolled across the villa complex lawn, Winnie's phone buzzed again. It was Bentley. "Ms. Anderson, Mr. Harrington doesn't seem shady at all," Bentley reported. "The detective I sent said tailing Rock was a snooze fest. He goes to work, comes home on time, keeps his distance from female coworkers, and even at parties, he brushes off women trying to flirt with him. He doesn't smoke or drink too much. Sometimes he hits up clubs for business, but while others are hiring women, he stays solo. Plus, he's super charitable. The Harrington Group has donated a ton to disaster areas. The detective also asked around at his company, and everyone there speaks highly of him, saying he's kind to everyone. Basically, Rock's perfect. No one has a bad word to say about him."
Winnie was speechless, thinking, 'Have I been overthinking this?'
"Your detective wasn't bribed, right?" she asked instinctively.
"Shouldn't be. The detective's my guy," Bentley chuckled and lowered his voice. "You suspected him because of that video, right? Are you sure he actually saw it?"
Winnie was silent, thinking, 'What if Lawrence lied to me and never showed the video to Rock? Maybe Lawrence just wants to split me and Rock up and exaggerated things?'
Bentley added, "I don't know Rock well, but I gotta say, he's almost too perfect to be real. Do you want me to check anything else?"
Bentley's words echoed in Winnie's mind.
'I also feel like Rock never loses his cool. Can a guy really be that perfect, charitable, and gentlemanly? I can't deny Rock treats me well. But since the investigation shows no issues, I can't unfairly suspect Rock,' she thought.
She shook her head, "Nah, nothing else. Your detective can stop following him. Call him back."
Winnie thanked him and hung up.
She led Mia closer to her villa. Through the big living room window, she saw Rock had come home from work.
The living room was brightly lit, and he was sitting on the sofa, reading an economics book to Oscar.
Oscar listened quietly, while Sidney, looking annoyed, was hammering something on the wall.
Rock looked over, put down the book, and gently helped Sidney fix the blocks in place.
Sidney threw a fit, not wanting his help.
Rock sighed but didn't say anything, looking like a patient and understanding dad.
Watching the scene, Winnie felt a pang of guilt. 'I've been suspecting Rock and even had Bentley investigate him. But as soon as he comes home, he's helping take care of Sidney. Am I being too harsh? Elliott and Lena like Rock, but Olivia seems a bit hot and cold towards him,' she thought.
Winnie suddenly wondered if what Olivia wanted to tell her this afternoon had something to do with Rock.
After fixing the blocks, Rock turned and saw her, smiling as he opened the window, "Winnie, you're back? Why are you standing there? Come in."
Winnie walked in with Mia.
Elliott wheeled over to open the door, glaring at her, "You're the mother of two kids, but you're always out early and back late. Rock does a better job than you."
"I'll reflect on it, Elliott. It won't happen again," Winnie sincerely apologized.
