Chapter 763 Waves of Chill

"Winnie, why are you back?" Rock saw her sitting on the couch, a hint of surprise flashing across his face.

Usually, she was very busy at the Blanchet Group. Even after working, she wouldn't stay on the couch; she would mostly go back to her guest room.

"Why are you looking at me like that? Are you daydreaming?" He pinched his brow, his face full of gentle concern.

Winnie clenched her palms, pretending nothing was wrong. "Have you taken care of Sierra's funeral arrangements?"

"Yes, today I accompanied the Davises to return Sierra's ashes to Lymington. You know I'm a good person. I felt quite sympathetic towards their family after the car accident."

Winnie looked at his tired face, as if he was genuinely concerned about Sierra. She discreetly observed him; it seemed like he wasn't wearing this shirt when he left in the morning. Thinking back, there were several times when his clothes were different between leaving and returning from work. She just hadn't paid attention before.

Rock took her hand. "I'm sorry, Sierra's situation has affected the company, and I've been busy handling it. Plus, the Davis Family asked me to deal with the car manufacturer for compensation. Have I been neglecting you?"

"No," Winnie smiled faintly, then suddenly asked, "By the way, Rock, when you were at the police station handling Ms. Brooks' affairs, did you ask about the progress of Olivia's missing case?"

Rock noticeably paused, turning his head with a gentle yet sharp look in his eyes. "Their cases are handled by different police stations," he replied, then asked, "Winnie, why did you suddenly think to ask about Ms. Smith?"

Winnie looked at him. "I've been worried about her every day, but since you handled the report, I didn't want to bother you constantly."

Rock looked apologetic. "I'm sorry, I've been really busy lately. How about this, I'll call the police chief now because I don't know the details either. You can ask him yourself."

Winnie saw the sincerity in his eyes and felt puzzled again. If Olivia's disappearance was related to him, he should have shown some signs. But Sierra's last message had shocked her deeply. It must be a crucial piece of information.

Rock immediately made the call. The chief's voice came through, "Mr. Harrington, how can I help you?"

"My wife wants to ask about Ms. Smith's missing case. How is the investigation going? I reported it, but I haven't followed up on the progress."

The chief paused, then said, "Mrs. Harrington, the police force is limited. We found a factory by the sea and discovered a footprint that might belong to a woman. We're currently verifying if it matches Ms. Smith's shoe size. If it does, we suspect she might have accidentally fallen into the sea while trekking. But this is just a hypothesis."

Winnie listened, finding it unbelievable. 'They really found Olivia's footprint? Impossible. Lawrence said Olivia never went to the factory. Was it the police's incompetence?'

Winnie suddenly cast a puzzled look at Rock's face. 'Could it really be as Lawrence said, that Rock had instructed the chief not to investigate Olivia's disappearance? Maybe this result was fabricated to placate her.'

At that moment, she felt that the Rock in front of her was no longer real. She remembered Lawrence telling her that Rock had someone beat him up.

"Winnie, what are you thinking? Did you hear what the chief said?" Rock waved his hand in front of her eyes, gently reminding her, "If you need me to push the chief for anything, just let me know."

"Forget it. Please ask the police to follow the rules and help me find Olivia."

If her suspect was true, she would have to secretly look for Olivia herself.

"Alright, Ms. Smith might be safe. Don't put too much pressure on yourself." Rock ruffled her hair, his eyes full of deep concern.

In the past, Winnie would have appreciated his concern. But now, she wondered what kind of face lay behind his gentle facade. Her heart felt cold. Was he really innocent? Why did Olivia disappear and Sierra die so coincidentally?

"Don't worry. It's rare for me to get off work early. Go take a shower, and I'll cook for you," Rock said softly, then suddenly called out to her, "By the way, Winnie, Mr. Harper is hosting a welcome party for Ms. Angelina Harper's return in a few days. Do you remember her? Mrs. Harper has warmly invited both of us. Their family is quite special, and I couldn't refuse."

"Okay," Winnie nodded absentmindedly, her mind heavy with thoughts. Going to such an event might be good. If Rock had any secrets, she might discover them through his interactions with those high-profile people.

The next morning.

Winnie suddenly received a call from Sidney. "Mommy, have you forgotten your dear kids?"

Winnie felt embarrassed, rubbing her brow. "I'm sorry, Sidney. How are you and Oscar doing at the Rodriguez Villa? Some things have happened recently, and your grandpa just woke up. I haven't had time to bring you back."

She felt guilty, but thinking about it, she realized she trusted Lawrence to take good care of the boys. Deep down, she knew he was a responsible father, and she had to admit that.

Wait, what was she thinking, speaking well of that shameless Lawrence?

Thinking of that, Winnie was speechless, then heard Sidney say, "You forgot about us because you were busy, right? Luckily, the Rodriguez Family isn't a bad family, or Oscar and I would have been mistreated."

Winnie frowned. "No way. Your grandpa and great-grandma aren't treating you well?"

"Of course not!" Sidney said. "That night, Grandma brought Oscar to Camellia Mount, and Grandpa was surprised to see him. It took a lot of effort to get Oscar to go to the Rodriguez Villa. Grandpa and Great-grandma have been spoiling him, trying to make him happy, afraid he would leave. Every time Daddy comes home from work and sees them pampering Oscar, he looks speechless. But Daddy owes Oscar the most, so Grandpa and Great-grandma are just helping him make amends."

"And... how is Oscar reacting?" Winnie asked, worried about Oscar's attitude towards the Rodriguez Family. After all, Oscar wasn't as easy to fool as Sidney.

Sidney pouted. "Oscar is very proud! No matter how Grandpa tries to amuse him, he won't smile. He's cold towards them. Only when he's with Grandma and Great-grandma does he show a bit of a good attitude. He's always been like this, very flirtatious with beautiful women, no matter their age!"

Winnie held her forehead. "Are you using the right words for Oscar? He's so young; how can he be flirtatious?"

"He's just like our bad daddy. By the way, Oscar wants to know if you're coming to take us home. We're at bad Daddy's apartment now. He said he's taking us out for soccer, barbecue, and hot springs later! He asked if you want to join us."
