Chapter 62 Not Giving in to a Scum

The man raised an eyebrow and smirked deeply, "Aren't you being cynical and sarcastic out of jealousy? Does it mean you don't plan on leaving after a year, right?"

He rubbed his chin, looking troubled.

"I have to consider the child and myself. The child needs a mother to take care of it, and I can't go on without a woman by my side. I think Darcy is not bad."

Winnie didn't have time to scold him. Could a man really die without a woman? Her thoughts were immediately drawn to the main point of his words as she gazed at her own abdomen.

For the first time, she thought about the issue of the child having a stepmother. In an instant, her heart felt slightly uncomfortable.

Was this man already considering finding a stepmother for the child, waiting for her to leave? Winnie tightly clenched her fist.

She always said she wanted to maintain her distance, not wanting to get deeply involved, but she never expected the man to be so practical!
A stepmother for the child? She didn't want that woman.

A hint of anxiety and profound disappointment appeared on Winnie's face. Her eyes, dark and glistening, showed a trace of teardrops.

L was taken aback, wondering if he had gone too far. She hadn't thought much about the child until now.

The man's large hand touched her head, lightly pinching her ear, and asked indifferently, "What's wrong with you?"

Winnie felt unhappy and frustrated, pushing him away. "I'm just a maid, don't touch me."

The man's gaze became deep and mysterious.

"Mr. L!" Darcy approached, not missing the way the man casually and warmly touched Winnie's hair.

Mr. L was always cold to the bone, and Darcy had only seen his ruthless business side. Even towards her and his closest friends, he was as frosty as ever.

Now, he was showing such indulgence towards a woman.

Darcy's fingertips slightly tightened as her smile became more natural.

"Mr. L, I've bought it! Oh, I forgot about the maid. Should I buy another one?"

"Thank you”

"No!" Winnie didn't want to join the three of them.

Seeing them sticking together was unsettling.

She broke free from the man's big hand and turned to run towards the open-air campsite.
"Mr. L, what about us?" Darcy asked, her eyes filled with expectation.

The soft glow Lawrence had shown when looking at Winnie earlier had vanished, making Darcy feel as if it was an illusion.

He glanced at her indifferently and said, "Darcy, you can go soak yourself."

And he casually walked towards the open-air campsite. Darcy stood there, wishing she could tear Winnie apart.

It seemed that Mr. L was more interested in Winnie than she had imagined. Why was Winnie, a woman who steals love from others, the one he favored?

Did Winnie even know about the contract marriage between herself and Mr. L?

A sly smile curled on her lips as her gaze narrowed with a chilling gaze, still contained a smile.

The open-air campsite was hosting a barbecue party, with a European-style long table filled with dessert foods and a barbecue grill.

The weather had turned colder, and with the hot springs nearby, Winnie wore a soft apricot-colored sweater dress that looked cozy but didn't provide much warmth.

"Mr. L, it's so cold!"

At that moment, Winnie was drawn to a charming voice of a woman. She saw a man with long legs lazily crossed beneath a parasol.

The beautiful vice-president was leaning forward, playfully feeding a grape to the man's thin lips.

L frowned and glanced at Darcy.

Darcy pointed and laughed, "Hurry up and put on a show, she's watching."

L turned his head.

Winnie met his gaze head-on, her eyes freezing at the sight of the two of them together! She wanted to pretend she didn't care, but her cherry lips slightly tightened, rage filling her eyes.

L raised an eyebrow and turned his head, accepting the grape from Darcy.

Blushing, Darcy whispered shyly, "You bit my finger, Mr. L."

"Is that so?" Winnie heard the wicked delight in the man's tone.

A stone seemed to lodge in her chest, making her feel uncomfortable.

L glanced at the woman's pale face, intentionally draped his suit jacket over Darcy's shoulders, and tenderly embraced her.

He said, "You said you were cold, don't freeze."

"Mr. L!" Darcy was pleasantly surprised by the attention, her face turning red as she smiled affectionately. "I will always remember this scene where you put your jacket on me."

The man acted nonchalantly, "Dummy."

Not far away, Winnie's face paled as she realized she wore nothing, freezing in the cold.

A sharp pang ran through her heart. He knew she was pregnant, yet he gave his jacket to another woman! A flirtatious jerk.

After all, it was just a marriage of convenience, a fake husband and wife. But why did it hurt her so much?

With lowered head, she suddenly stood up and walked away towards the barbecue grill, where several spicy skewers were placed.

Winnie felt short of breath. As she saw those spicy items, she angrily picked up multiple skewers and sat on the grass, starting to eat.

Her small mouth turned red as she took a sip of water.

Suddenly, something rolled to her feet and smacked her butt.

Winnie turned around to see the tall and imposing scumbag standing behind her, his eyebrows furrowed as he stared at her.

"What are you eating?"

"Are you blind?" Winnie picked up the corn he had kicked and fiercely threw it back at his shin.

The man groaned in pain and walked over, squatting in front of her. Seeing the mouthful of peppers, he frowned and said, "You fed my child spicy peppers?"

Winnie felt a surge of anger in her chest and sneered, "So, you still remember that there's a child. I thought you couldn't wait to have a child with Darcy. Well then, this child can be completely mine."

The man was infuriated but suddenly smirked, "Did you eat dynamite? Why are you so aggressive?"

He snatched the skewer of grilled meat from her small hand. "You can't eat these, give them to me."

Winnie angrily refused. She had done her research and knew that eating spicy food in moderation wouldn't harm the child. The idea that pregnant women can't eat spicy food was just a rumor.

Her anger grew.

She tightened her lips and said, "I want to eat them. I grilled all these by myself. Even if it's for a dog, I won't give them to a scumbag's lover."

Finishing her words, she picked up a slice of grilled bread and stuffed it in her mouth.

The man smirked and said in a low voice, "So now the little dog is eating bread?"

"..." Winnie's small hand stiffened. Her dark almond eyes widened, with a hint of pink at the corners, fueled by her anger. This made her look very captivating, enhancing her beautiful face. Her cheeks even appeared slightly flushed.

She shouted, "Stop laughing!"

The man chuckled and, observing the explosive anger of this fierce little kitty, sat down on the grass.
Her soft woolen dress revealed a slender white leg, but as soon as he saw it, she immediately pulled her skirt back, leaving just a glimpse of her ankle.

Staring at her skirt, the man suddenly felt thirsty, his Adam's apple bobbing.

He smirked and said, "Fine, not for the lover then. Little maid, grill corn for me!"
He picked up a corn.

Winnie slapped his hand away and sarcastically said, "Didn't the grape choke you just now?"

The man's gaze deepened as he clicked his tongue. "Look at you, so sarcastic and sharp-tongued. Where is Mrs. L's elegance? What exactly has caused you to be so unhappy, angry, and jealous?"
