Chapter 953 Separate to Search
Staring at the blurry surveillance footage, Olivia saw Mia's car get wrecked first. Then, four or five men in black got out of another car, tied Mia up, and dragged her away. She was weakly struggling, and it was clear from the blood on her small face that she was hurt.
Olivia's heart finally shattered, tears streaming down her face. Mia was hurt!
Winnie also saw Mia's bloodied face, her cute little face crying out in fear, mouthing the word "Mom." Winnie's eyes stung, worried that Olivia wouldn't be able to handle it.
She moved her laptop and fast-forwarded the footage. "Olivia, pull up the surveillance from the next intersection! There's only one coastal road; they must have gone down it, maybe even passed Jeremy's villa."
"Yeah, but at that time, Jeremy and I had no idea... We were busy arguing with Louis about our own issues, and Mia got kidnapped because of it. I'm not fit to be her mom. I messed up..."
"Don't blame yourself! We all missed something here."
Winnie frowned, trying to calm Olivia's intense emotions. "Besides, Mr. DeRoss had a gun pointed at you back then. You were in danger, too. Right now, finding Mia is the priority. You need to stay calm."
"...I'm calm, I'm calm." Olivia hurriedly wiped away her tears, quickly moving the cursor with her fingers as she searched for surveillance footage along the coastal road.
Jeremy rushed back to find Olivia's face pale and tear-streaked, desperately trying to control her emotions, standing next to Winnie, her hands trembling as she operated the computer.
His heart sank, his tall frame tense as he walked over.
Winnie saw him and quietly stepped aside, reminding Olivia, "Olivia, Jeremy's back."
Olivia looked up sharply. It was dark now, and the coastal road had no streetlights, only the spotlights from the crime scene set up by the special police.
Jeremy's profile was shrouded in darkness, his features indistinct. His deep eyes were fixed on her, filled with emotions. He moved his thin lips but found himself at a loss for words.
He felt defeated.
Olivia saw his tightly pressed lips, her hope turning into a painful throb in her chest, her gaze dimming. "Didn't Lynn say anything?"
"She resisted until the end." Jeremy bit down on his cigarette, then tossed it aside, moving closer to her, speaking softly, "Don't waste time on her. As long as we find the direction the car went, I can find Mia quickly. We have enough people, and the police are helping."
Olivia tried to stabilize her near-breaking emotions. Although Lynn's confession would be the fastest way...
But Lynn wasn't talking, and even if Jeremy killed her now, it wouldn't help.
They had to rely on themselves.
"Jeremy, Olivia has identified the men who took Mia. About six of them came in three cars, surrounded Kai's car, and after the crash, they took Mia. The cars had no license plates and headed down the coastal road." Winnie explained.
Jeremy frowned and immediately grabbed a map of the road from the traffic police, turning to Olivia. "There's a fork a mile away, and another left turn three miles away. The main road leads to Lymington's industrial park, and the left turn leads to the bypass. So, the kidnappers could have four possible directions?
"If they took the bypass, tracking them would be even harder."
Olivia nodded, her fingers flying over the computer, her brows furrowed as she scanned the footage frame by frame. Suddenly, she said, "Jeremy, they turned off one of the cars at the first fork!"
It was impossible to tell if Mia was in the car that turned off.
This was clearly Lynn's trick!
Jeremy immediately mobilized some police officers and sent them the surveillance screenshots. "Please hurry and chase down this unlicensed SUV. Search the car and contact me immediately with any findings!"
"Understood, Mr. DeRoss." The police nodded.
Ray walked over and stared at Olivia. "Did the remaining two cars continue down the main road?"
Olivia continued scanning the footage frame by frame, speeding up.
But before Olivia could answer, Jeremy's eyes narrowed, his voice steady and deep. "They must have split up again at the left turn three miles away."
Jeremy's sharp intuition proved correct.
Olivia found the footage and nodded. "Jeremy was right. It's all a trick. At the three-mile left turn, the two cars split up again. The road surveillance is blurry, and the windows are sealed, so we can't tell which car Mia is in!"
"No problem." Jeremy held her angry hand. "The kidnappers are cunning, but we have plenty of people. Ray..."
"I'll go with the police to the three-mile left turn and chase down the car. Send me close-up shots of the car!" Ray didn't wait for Jeremy to finish. He took off his jacket and got into the car, looking sharp and determined.
Olivia took a deep breath. "That leaves the main road leading to the industrial park."
"I'll go to the industrial park." Jeremy glanced at his watch. It was almost 9 PM, and his heart grew heavier. Nearly six hours had passed since the kidnapping, and anything could happen!
Mia was so small and already hurt, her body fragile.
If the kidnappers were rough, Mia wouldn't be able to handle it.
His eyes were cold and sharp, and he looked at Olivia. Her slender figure was almost swallowed by the chilly sea breeze. She had been standing there for so long without moving, and his heart was filled with pity and guilt. He mustered the courage to hold her cold fingers.
Sure enough, they were stiff from the cold and probably numb, yet she kept working on the computer.
He looked down at her pale face, her tear-stained eyes filled with grief. Usually so stubborn and strong, now she looked utterly drained.
Jeremy's heart pounded, his voice hoarse and low as he urged her, "Go back to the city with Winnie. I'll find Mia. I won't let anything happen to her."
"No, this is where Mia disappeared. I'll stay here and wait for the police, see if we can find more clues. You go to the industrial park! I'll keep searching the footage, afraid they might switch cars at a stop, making it harder to find Mia."
She had a point.
Jeremy thought for a moment and looked at Winnie.
Winnie understood his meaning and nodded. "Don't worry, I'll take care of her. Jeremy, we need to find Mia tonight. Otherwise... we all know the rules of kidnapping. The longer it takes..."
"It won't happen, it won't happen!" Olivia shook her head vehemently. "We have so many people searching. Lymington isn't that big. It won't happen."
