Chapter 283 Winnie's Plan
At this moment, in the villa, Sidney, who was buried in his room, heard the beep from his wristband. He looked down and quickly ran downstairs.
The sound of footsteps caught Lawrence R's attention. "Why did you just come down?"
Darcy stood up warmly, but helplessly said to Lawrence R, "As soon as I came back, Sidney started throwing tantrums and refused to come down for dinner."
"Sit down, Sidney. Mommy will bring your food to feed you."
"You go away!"
Anxious Sidney found her interfering and coldly shouted.
Lawrence R's eyebrows furrowed, clearly noting that his son had become more sensible these past two days and was polite to everyone. Why did he revert back to being a 'bastard' again?
"How did you talk to your mommy?"
"She's not my mommy!" Sidney frowned.
Darcy's face turned dark, but she also looked at the little bastard in astonishment.
Lawrence R took a deep breath. "Then what's the matter with you coming down?"
Sidney opened his mouth, his breath heavy, but he was at a loss for words.
He was frustrated. He wasn't as clever as Oscar, and his education from a young age didn't teach him how to lie. He didn't know how to bring up the fact that Oscar and mommy were in danger with his father. It would surely lead to a lot of complications, and he was troubled about how to say it.
Lawrence R put down his fork. "Sidney, speak up if something's wrong."
Darcy smiled and said, "Mr. L, don't you know Sidney's personality by now? He's not happy. It won't make us happy, don't be angry."
Sidney glanced disdainfully at Darcy, but he didn't know how to argue with this woman. If only Oscar were here. He still couldn't think of a way to tell Dad about Mommy's danger.
Stomping his foot, Sidney turned and ran back upstairs, frustrated sending a text to Oscar with Dad's number.
Oscar should understand.
Upon receiving the phone number, Oscar understood Sidney's predicament.
It must be that bastard dad's number. His eyes rolled as he stealthily took out Mommy's phone from his back pocket and dialed the string of numbers.
As the call connected, he quickly handed the phone to Mommy.
The phone beneath her clothes vibrated, and Winnie looked down in confusion, her face turning instantly dark.
How did she end up dialing Lawrence R's number? Puzzled, Winnie picked up the phone, about to hang up.
On the other end, a voice filled with arrogance and mockery came through, "You shameless woman, why are you calling me?"
"I heard that you were caught by Triton's shareholders, serves you right."
"..."
Winnie's mouth twitched. Just by hearing Lawrence R's triumphant voice, she knew he had misunderstood something.
The shareholders and thugs were on the line, she dared not say anything.
Just as she was about to hang up, unexpectedly, the man's domineering tone resounded, "Want my help now? Fine, if you don't want them to beat you to death, hand over Mr. Powell's negatives, abandon Triton, and apologize to Darcy!"
Winnie rolled her eyes inwardly. Seeing Mr. Jones and Mr. Mitchell's delighted expressions on the other side, Manager Nelson should have almost finished handling things.
Winnie replied scornfully, "Darcy instigated these shareholders to beat me up, and I should apologize to her? Am I stupid?"
Lawrence R held the phone, standing on the balcony of the villa, his brows furrowed and his eyes darkened.
"Winnie, you're beyond redemption. Darcy was pleading on your behalf just now, and yet you keep spewing lies."
Winnie sighed silently, taking a deep breath. "Pleading? Your Darcy was hiding outside the hotel earlier, grabbing my hair and distorting her face in anger. She would plead for me? You're such a fool."
Lawrence R paused, then turned around, his gaze piercing as he looked towards the living room.
"You deliberately told her about us in the hotel last night?" Lawrence R gritted his teeth, wanting to strangle this woman.
"Why don't you ask her how much the private detective charges?"
Winnie's voice playfully teased, "As for me and Triton, Mr. Rodriguez needn't worry, we'll be just fine!"
She hung up swiftly, and even through the phone, Lawrence R could sense the mischievous tone in her voice.
He inexplicably chuckled, his face turning serious again, waiting to see how she would save herself.
Not knowing any better, with his command, those shareholders wouldn't release her today.
Sooner or later, she would call and beg for mercy. At that time, he would make her cry!
Lawrence R walked back to the living room. Darcy stared at him making a long phone call, and her emotions seemed to be different than her usual cold indifference.
She tightened her grip on her hand and couldn't help but ask with a tentative smile, "Mr. L, who was calling you?"
Lawrence R looked at the woman and thought about what Winnie had said earlier... He hesitated and asked, "Darcy, did you follow me to the hotel this morning?"
Darcy was suddenly shocked, becoming more certain that the call earlier was from Winnie. She had even told on her, that wicked woman. At this moment, her eyes reddened, and she couldn't hold back her tears.
Distraught, she said, "Mr. L, I didn't want to, but after Miss Anderson came back and you didn't come home for two nights in a row, I was afraid of losing you. So, I asked Jeffery to find you, and he said he saw you with Winnie at the hotel..."
"I couldn't resist going there secretly this morning, was I being foolish?"
As Lawrence R looked at her crying, he felt some regret. "I was just drunk, and I didn't do anything with her. I'm sorry! Also, why didn't you tell me earlier?"
"I was afraid you would get angry. I promised to trust you, but your repeated closeness with Winnie made me anxious." Darcy cried helplessly, and Lawrence R's heart softened.
He wiped her tears and asked in a low voice, "Winnie said you hit her. Are you alright?" Mr. L's words were in her defense, but they also had a hint of suspicion.
Darcy quickly smiled bitterly and replied, "I hit her? Miss Anderson sure knows how to spin a tale. Have you forgotten how she left me all beaten up in the bathroom?"
Lawrence R paused. Yes, Winnie had a violent temper, and Darcy was very delicate. How could she have hit Winnie?
"She also said you instigated Triton's shareholders to bother her. Darcy, is there any truth to this?"
If Darcy hadn't mentioned the shareholders kidnapping Winnie earlier, he wouldn't have known...
Tears fell from Darcy's eyes, as she tried to hide her panic and refute, "Mr. L, do you believe her? Miss Anderson has a history of lying for the past three years. I really don't understand why she would frame me. All I wanted was to silently stand by you and Sidney. She keeps pushing me, and I can only endure it. I don't want to lose you. After all these years of love and devotion, what else do you doubt?"
The woman cried weakly and pitifully. Thinking about her years of love and loyalty, Lawrence R suddenly woke up.
For these past three years, he had been trying to fall in love with Darcy, thinking he had succeeded. But when that woman came back, his mind was slightly disturbed.
All of this was instigated by Winnie's manipulation.
Lawrence R pursed his lips, felt regret again. How could he doubt Darcy because of just a few words from her?
"I'm sorry, I won't question you with this foolishness anymore."
Lawrence R. closed his eyes and forcefully expelled Winnie's hateful image from his mind. He also threw away the bill for the scratch on the car she had given him. Darcy, in his arms, struggled to steady her breath, her eyes clouded.
At four o'clock in the afternoon, Luke walked quickly into the villa and approached Lawrence R to report, "Mr. Rodriguez, the shares held by Triton's shareholders have suddenly been acquired by a mysterious person."
"What?" Lawrence R's sharp gaze.
