Chapter 328 Retribution

Winnie could barely stand, her body swaying from the intense shock. She turned around dazedly and once again looked at the real Oscar lying on the bed.

"Sidney, don't scare mommy like that! Even though she is strong, she can't be fooled by us like this. Come over, let's explain properly to her. She won't blame us," Oscar weakly spoke, his voice filled with playful tenderness.

Winnie clenched her delicate hands and stared with wide eyes. She forced back tears and the surging joy, straining to maintain a gentle tone as she spoke, "Child, are you my son?"

"I'm your other son, Mommy." Sidney noticed her gesturing for him to come closer, and, much like a kitten responding to its mother's call, he quickly ran into Winnie's arms.

As Olivia witnessed the scene, she quietly welled up with tears, feeling a sense of joy for Winnie.

"What's going on exactly? Child, is your name Sidney?" Winnie asked. It seemed that the "Sidney" Lawrence called for wasn't Oscar. She had misunderstood the whole situation. However, the magnitude of the misunderstanding loomed large. Perhaps it was a huge secret.

"Mommy, how dare you ask us what's going on? You clueless fool. Don't you know that you gave birth to two sons?" Oscar, lying on the bed, glanced at her with shining eyes and playfully rolled them.

She was genuinely unaware, reaching a point where the night became quite frightening for a brief period.

Oscar added, "In simple terms, it's because as soon as Sidney was born, that jerk of a dad took him away, while you held me and jumped into the sea. After we were saved, we went to a foreign country, hence why neither of us had met each other. Lawrence didn't know there was another Oscar, just like you didn't know there was another Sidney. You both thought there was only one son.

"That day at the auction banquet, you mistakenly took Sidney home, and I was mistakenly taken home by Lawrence." Oscar recounted everything that had happened in the past few days, his voice weak but deliberate.

Winnie and Olivia listened intently, their eyes wide with astonishment. Emotions welled up within them, as if on the verge of bursting out from their hearts. Winnie couldn't describe the mixture of emotions within her. Her blood rushed to her head, hot and cold. When she realized what was happening, she looked at her two little treasures, tears already streaming down her face.

So, three years ago, that night in the wild, she had given birth to two children and they were twins. But throughout her pregnancy, all the doctors, including the information from the ultrasounds she received, indicated only one child. Although she comprehended the concept of pulses, she refrained from self-diagnosis and had never meticulously assessed her own pulse. She was well aware that distinguishing between multiple pregnancies could not be solely determined through pulse examination. It was only later that she noticed her belly seemed unusually large. The hospital provided a plausible explanation, attributing it to an excess of amniotic fluid.

Reflecting on the past, Lawrence was fully aware of the situation. Right from the start, he knew she was pregnant with twins. Somehow, he chose to keep this information from her and influenced the hospital to alter the prenatal checkup results. It was no surprise that he harbored unexplained resentment three years later. Despite knowing it was twins, he only discovered one Sidney. Perhaps he believed she heartlessly abandoned the other child. "What an idiot," Winnie thought, a wave of annoyance washing over her.

She composed herself and turned her attention to her two little treasures, experiencing a mix of shock and resentment. "So, you two little rascals had already figured out each other's identity, secretly met, and even switched places to fool us?" she said with a suppressed voice, her lips puckered in speechlessness. This would have explained Oscar's recent strange behavior and the drastic change in his personality. Apparently it wasn't due to any illness at all.

Winnie also recalled the time at Christine's restaurant where Lawrence clearly took "Oscar" away,
but "Oscar" quickly ran back home. Apart from that, she remembered the time when she noticed the number on her son's smartwatch was one digit short. That must have been Sidney pretending to be Oscar. They probably conspired together, afraid to see her sad.

Winnie's eyes displayed a complex array of emotions—anger, resentment, warmth, and heartache—while her tears, unyielding and non-resilient, fell ceaselessly. Oscar loved her, and unexpectedly, Sidney, her other child whom she had never met, also loved her.

She felt so guilty toward her two sons for not noticing earlier. "Darlings, I'm sorry. Mommy has never fulfilled her responsibilities as a mother, not even for a day, and wasn't aware about your existence. Mommy was too confused." She tenderly and sorrowfully apologized, gently touching Sidney's hair. Whenever she recalled the night of giving birth, feeling trapped and unaware of her first child, abandoning him in that spot. Her heart and lungs felt as though they were tearing apart, and she couldn't forgive herself.

"It's all right, it's all in the past, Mommy. Although I have blamed you before for not coming to find your little baby, Taylor told me to wait patiently. She assured me that one day I would be able to meet my birth mother. I waited with difficulty, and only at the banquet did I find you," Sidney said arrogantly, trying to console himself with the belief that he had done his best.

Olivia, who had been quietly waiting on the side, was amused by the little guy's proud appearance. Indeed, Sidney surely took after his father, Lawrence. On the other hand, Oscar was simply a little gentleman. Unexpectedly, she felt a bit envious of Winnie.

"Taylor is a good person," Winnie murmured, moved. Sidney grew up by Lawrence's side, under the watchful gaze of Darcy. Without Taylor's intervention, Sidney would have had a hard time growing up.

Winnie took a deep breath, her fists clenched. This time, she intentionally directed her gaze at Oscar, puffing out her cheeks with determination as she decisively addressed the unresolved issue. "You said you sneaked into the mansion, grabbed Darcy by the hair, dealt with her and in kindergarten, helped Sidney expose her intentional bullying. Oscar, you tortured Mommy's heart to the point where she couldn't breathe. Do you know how dangerous this is?"

Oscar lowered his little head, and his childish eyes flashed with a surprising maturity for his age. "I wanted to help you get revenge. Whenever I saw Dad being deceived by that wicked woman, I got angry and couldn't bear it."

"You're just two three-year-old children..." Winnie sighed. Her gaze became sharp, and she softly inquired, "What really happened this time with the kidnapping?"

Before Oscar could speak up, Sidney couldn't hold back and angrily told Winnie, "It was that wicked woman, Darcy. Mommy, she accidentally discovered that we are twin brothers, so she got nervous and had murderous intentions toward us! That day, she sneakily used my smartwatch to contact Oscar. Oscar mistook her for me, and went to the bridal center alone as per the text Darcy had sent via my smart watch.

"In an unexpected turn of events, we were abruptly kidnapped by thugs, and shockingly, Darcy orchestrated her own fake kidnapping. However, her true motive unfolded as she seized the chance to inflict personal torture on us. Mommy, she cruelly took Oscar's inhaler and repeatedly submerged him in filthy water. Eventually, Oscar succumbed to an asthma attack, and she heartlessly threw him into a sealed hole, allowing him to suffocate. It's a despicable tale, but at this young and powerless age, I was unable to resist or defend against their brutality. I'm truly sorry, Mommy."

"Sidney, don't blame yourself. You also have suffered a lot. Luckily, our father was reliable this time and arrived quickly. Mommy also had a hunch and managed to save my life," Oscar silently comforted Sidney. The two little ones held each other in their arms, tears filling their eyes, and the fear from their adventure still haunted their hearts.

Listening to their sobbing childish voices, Winnie's heart felt like it was on the verge of shattering, as a towering anger gradually surged within her. Her fingers painfully dug into her palms, her eyes welled up with tears, but she forced herself to hide it while she embraced her two precious ones. In a cold and solemn voice, she said, "Don't be afraid. From now on, with Mommy will never allow anyone to harm the both of you, my two precious babies."

Winnie's perpetual concern centered around Oscar's asthma, a vulnerability Darcy exploited to torment him. As she reflected on the agony her son endured during surgery, Winnie's eyes welled with tears. Determined to avenge this vendetta, she vowed to pursue retaliation on an unprecedented scale.

"Oh, Sidney, by the way, how did you manage to slip away? Didn't your father notice you had run away?" Winnie snapped out of her thoughts and anxiously asked the little one.

Sidney, too, realized he had been gone for a while. Puckering his lips in distress, he reluctantly withdrew from his mother's embrace. "He went to visit the wicked woman. Knowing Darcy would likely pester him, I seized the opportunity while the servants were fatigued and quietly slipped away."

Displaying his intelligence, Sidney raised his head slightly, inquiring eagerly yet cautiously, "Can Lawrence know that he still has two sons alive?"
