Chapter 92 Darcy's Kindness
Winnie's beauty made it easy for her to attract attention in the business world, which greatly bothered L.
He nodded with satisfaction. "Then recommend these two to her and help her out."
"Sure thing," Darcy smiled.
The man leaned back with his tall and straight figure, his shirt perfectly matched with a refined tie, highlighting his sensual contours. His face was irresistibly beautiful, with profound features that made even the most steadfast hearts waver.
The eyes were so deep and black that they could drown a person. Darcy couldn't help but tremble whenever she looked into them, the warmth of his breath lingering in her hair.
As her mind wandered, the man's eyes suddenly became unfathomable, giving off a sense of oppression.
L tested the waters calmly, "Darcy, you've been concerned about Winnie, haven't you?"
Darcy smiled lightly, but then she hesitated, stealing a glimpse of the hidden sharpness in his eyes. She suddenly realized that he might be testing her.
Her hand stiffened under her sleeve, and she immediately put on a charming smile, "Mr. L, when it comes to your affairs or Mrs. L's affairs, it's natural for me to be concerned."
L frowned, recalling Winnie's attitude towards Darcy last night. It was neither warm nor cold, and Darcy had no reason to be left out in the cold.
Seeing his furrowed brow, Darcy guessed faintly. Then, her eyes turned warm like gentle water, "Mr. L, don't you understand yet? I just want to be good to you. In fact, I think you and Mrs. L are a perfect match. Feelings can't be forced, and you and Mrs. L are attracted to each other. I've already let go, treating you as a brother. But still, I want to help you and see you happy with Mrs. L. If you two have a fight and you're unhappy, I'll feel sad too..."
She sighed lightly, with an innocent and gentle look, smiling with her eyes half closed, "You've known me for so many years, you should know that I'm single-minded in protecting someone, regardless of my role. Mr. L's happiness is important to me. But possessing someone is not that crucial. Do you still have doubts about me? Maybe I just like Mrs. L because I love you."
L looked into her eyes, clear like a spring, and noticed the slight hint of melancholy in her eyebrows. These years, she had helped Imperial many times, always standing by their side whenever the old Mr. Rodriguez applied pressure, acting for him.
Their interactions were mostly tied to the interests of the family, and L had never truly liked her before. He used to think she was only trying to please him.
But now, with Winnie in the picture, she still treated him well. Perhaps, as she said, she didn't have any ulterior motives.
His cold gaze softened slightly, and he was somewhat moved. Facing such a girl, all he could offer was coldness, "If you consider me as a brother, I will give you a raise and help you find a good husband."
Darcy's heart was splashed with cold water again, just like many times before. The man's heart was as cold as stone, and she had accepted that. But why did it warm up when facing Winnie?
She clenched her fingers tightly, knowing that he was trying to dismiss her with money. She smiled softly, "Sure, I'll find someone more mature and perfect than you."
L's pen dropped, reassured. It was because of Winnie's resentment that he had doubted Darcy.
"Go then," he rarely smiled at her. Darcy knew that her strategy of "making a retreat in order to advance" had made him let go of his suspicions.
She endured such humiliation for the sole purpose of destroying Winnie! Darcy's eyes coldly narrowed, she had planned a good show for Winnie next, and she was sure Winnie would take the bait.
Darcy returned to her office and made a smiling phone call to Winnie.
At this moment...
Winnie was in a meeting in the purchasing department, concerned about the uneven quality of Triton's rough stones. She needed to find a good supplier.
Suddenly, Darcy called. She greeted Winnie with a smile, "Mrs. L, do you have a moment? I have a surprise for you."
Winnie, facing the glaring sunlight that made her squint, couldn't help but feel a trace of indiscernible meaning in her voice.
A surprise from Darcy?
She calmly lowered her eyebrows and extended a polite gesture, "Sure, Darcy. Where should we meet?"
Darcy had already arrived near Triton, so they decided to meet at a restaurant.
As Winnie entered the restaurant, Darcy warmly waved her fair hand and her almond-shaped eyes sparkled innocently, saying, "Over here, Mrs. L!"
Winnie took her seat, placed her bag down, and raised her eyes, curving her lips as she looked at Darcy. "I'm curious, what brings you to see me, Darcy?"
Winnie had almond-shaped eyes with a captivating radiance. They were perfectly rounded, complemented by her deep, black, watery eyes, which added a touch of sweetness and innocence. Her eyes also had a gentle tranquility at the corners, harmonizing with her tender face that no man could resist.
Darcy also had almond-shaped eyes, slightly elongated with a downward curve at the corners, making it easy for her to appear delicate and innocent.
"Darcy, you still keep a certain distance between us," she said, sighing softly. But quickly dismissing it, she smiled and took out two documents, saying,
"Since Mrs. L is busy, I'll get straight to the point. I've noticed Triton has been facing some difficulties lately, and I thought you might need some resources. Luckily, I know two rough stone suppliers who provide excellent quality. If I help negotiate the prices, it could be even better. Mrs. L, would you consider purchasing rough stones from them?"
"Oh?" Winnie took the documents and began to read. She knew these two female suppliers. Their stone quality was good, but the prices were relatively high. Plus, they only served certain jewelry companies and did not cater to others.
Was Darcy acting as a go-between?
Winnie couldn't help but feel a slight sense of emotion. "Miss Ordelia, you're truly fantastic! I didn't expect you to show such concern and initiative in recommending suppliers to me when my company encountered issues. Given our newly formed relationship, I wonder if Miss Ordelia is this kind to everyone?"
Darcy paused, a hint of innocent hurt passing through her eyes. She waved her hand and said, "Of course, I'm not nice to everyone. I'm only good to Mrs. L because you are Mr. L's wife. How could Mrs. L think that of me? I just wanted to help you privately. I came to find you without expecting to burden you."
Her words implied that Winnie had understood her correctly without any misunderstanding.
Rejecting her would only mean misunderstanding her goodwill.
Winnie hadn't sought help from anyone regarding Triton's rough stone issue, and yet, Darcy took the initiative to come and recommend suppliers, offering her help.
Wasn’t there something suspicious about this situation? That night in the private room, every word Darcy spoke seemed aimed either to provoke Eva or to spite L, and her performances in the hospital, those extravagant acts of generosity...
Winnie, with narrowed eyes full of suspicion, was extremely cautious. She was on guard against Darcy and naturally wouldn’t accept this overly enthusiastic "kindness."
Winnie didn’t miss the thinly veiled signs of resentment and distrust on the surface, Darcy had hidden well. Yes, Darcy intentionally showed enthusiasm, even impatience in her recommendations, even as she claimed it was her personal recommendation.
Darcy deliberately chose not to mention Mr. L. As Winnie would trust Mr. L, but since she already held animosity towards Darcy, she won't trust her easily Darcy was counting on this fact. Now, all Darcy needed to do was wait for Winnie to refuse the offer, which she did with her next statement.
"The raw Triton stone isn't that urgent, Darcy. I appreciate your recommended suppliers, as I don't know much about them. Thank you for today!" Winnie politely declined Darcy’s offer with a smile.
Darcy's eyes droop slightly, appearing displeased. "I got too excited, it's fine. Mrs. L, please continue evaluating other suppliers." Winnie stood up calmly after they had exchanged pleasantries and saw Darcy off, standing silently with her eyes narrowed.
Winnie didn’t know how many pitfalls she would encounter if she signed the contract Darcy had presented her, but there would definitely be some. Darcy may not have good intentions toward Winnie after all, Winnie was convinced of that.
